Do you have an EFI graphics card? Not having one might explain why you don't see the black screen with the Apple logo along with the progress bar. I do have an EFI graphics card, but I can't boot my computer until next Wednesday at the earliest.

Without an EFI card you don't see anything until the desktop or login screen loads.

The new boot.efi boots extremely quick for me (1,1 -> 2,1 + SSD). But I still do not get the boot screen as I did with Mavericks (7950 flashed). Just a black screen and then login. Maybe it is booting too fast? It is less that 15 seconds or so from the chimes. I am getting 3 chimes on reboot. Curious......

^^^Me too. Perhaps my VS settings? When I tried Hennessie's compiled one, it boots like this: grey screen then black mode with white logo and progress bar. So "normal", like other reports. When I compile in Debug mode, it looks like on video. When I use Release mode grey screen appears only for a second or so, then it proceeds to black mode with logo and bar. But screen stays black after bar gets to the end.

Hennessie: did you use some special settings when compiling?

Nothing special. I just changed it from Debug to Release and left it as Win32. Then from the build menu, I chose Build Solution.

Video of described boot-up

Nice relatively fast boot. Aesthetically, the back screen/white apple icon appeared coupled with a slower white scroll/loading bar of what I assume to be during/instead of verbose boot..no hyphen whatsoever. It then switched over to an identical/same black screen while apple and a swifter white scroll loading bar to the Yosemite log in screen.

Albeit of rather poor quality (shot from a simple hand held canon digital camera), the basic gist of what I described earlier is effectively achieved. Note how quickly the second white apple, black screen, white scroll/loading bar briefly appears before the desktop. And not even my SSD rather a fast Western Digital Caviar Black 3.5 drive booting Yosemite.

This is exactly how my machine booted when using Clover in normal boot. The progress bar would fill maybe a quarter of the way and then it would go straight to desktop.

OK, I think I may have screwed something, like "build" or "build boot" instead of "build solution". Till this time I always used the latter, but something told me to try these other options...

Boot times for this one and the previous "silly" build are about the same for me. With the SSHD my boot time is just over 50 seconds from chime till everything is loaded. The other day I was getting sub 25 second boot times which was most likely because I hadn't booted Windows in a while and was rebooting OS X a lot so the SSHD had cached OS X boot files on the NAND. Decided to play some Battlefield 3 last night so now it is longer.

I'm following this thread very closely and all I can say is thank you guys for all your hard work. I'm waiting for the final Yosemite release before installing it, standing by for now. :) From what I've seen it should be as easy as the Tiamo/Mavericks solution, which is what I'm running now on my trusty 1,1... You guys are great!

I'm trying it on my Mac Pro and GM 2 and it works fine. Thank you

The only problem I have with Yosemite for the moment is with iMessage. I have a message telling me that I can't activate iMessage with my account for the moment and that I should contact the Apple assistance. I don't have this problem under Mavericks.

Can someone describe what this latest achieves visually. I tried it on my unsupported iMac 5,1 running OS X 10.8.5 formally using Tiamos boot.efi and I got a white screen with a white Apple with a black box around the white Apple. Not nearly as aesthetically pleasing as the complied file that Hennesie2000 posted earlier this afternoon and I posted the boot video of.

In the commits there is an entry for "commenting out unused logo data"

It works with GM3, when i have time i replace my GPU with x1900 to see what is happening during the boot.

Edit 1

During boot there is at first the full grey screen for few seconds
then the grey screen with Apple logo included in a black square for few seconds and finally the black screen with white Apple logo

I’ve tried the C6297-version from Oct, 10 and I think there’s a bug in the Boot.efi. After selecting the Boot-Partition from Apple’s Startup-Manager, therein appears immediately the white Apple logo within a black square, the progress bar too and it switches some seconds later then to the normal Apple Boot-Screen with the white logo / progress bar on a black background. Never had this effect before on my MBP2,2.

That one in the commit says "warning untested code". I'll build the version right before that and post it if someone with an EFI card can test it.

This is commit a8097f5 (Fixing Typo)

I've got a HD Radeon 5770 Mac Edition and I also notice the 'bug' that the Apple logo appears on top of the HD icons while booting. Used your boot.efi from your previous post.

Considering the fine work you are doing we would be happy to contribute an EFI card for you to further testing for community. Gratis. Just PM me an address and what display outputs you need.

Mac Pro 1,1 & 2,1 community at its best. Love this thread.

I am able to test with a 7950 Mac Edition and flashed 4870 if required.
