Hey all,

I am going to be parting out my Mac Pro if anyone is interested in some of the parts. Here is a list of what I have:

2 - Power Supplies (part no. 614-0383)

Well, I've been having some intermittent rebooting issues lately (I'm going to start another thread if my machine doesn't reboot on me :( ), and I was wondering if that power supply was compatible with a 661-4001 for a MacPro 1,1 ?

I'm not sure but I may be needing one, thanks.

It's the same part.

It's the same part.
Thanks, I will probably be sending you a PM.

I'm going to try one or two more things, but I'm really starting to think my power supply may be on the way out, and would be very interested if you haven't sold them already.

Thanks.

It doesn't work here...

Hi. I'm stuck with a non-booting SSD :(

Everything was fine with Mavericks (see here: https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/18833374/) but after I upgraded my MBP 6.2 to Yosemite I was curious to try it on my Mac Pro 1.1 too. I followed MacVidCards instructions - post #1772 - step by step, but I guess I missed something... or did it the wrong way.

- I made a Carbon Copy clone of my Mavericks SSD on a 160 Gb HD, just in case
- I took the SSD from the Mac Pro and I connected it to my MBP 6,2 through a SATA-to-USB adapter
- I formatted the SSD - single GUID partition - and installed Yosemite, then I checked the Apple store for updates (none)
- I booted the laptop using the internal drive and replaced on the Mac Pro SSD the original "boot.efi" files with the modified ones, in both locations (same as Mavericks, right?)
- I rebooted the laptop using the Mac Pro SSD and repaired permissions
- I moved it in the Mac Pro and it didn't boot. I could see it and select it clicking Alt-key on startup but then the cursor got stuck and after a while the Mac Pro booted from the Mavericks-clone hard disk.

I'll try to reinstall ASAP, but it would be great to know your opinions...
Please note that Mac Pro's hardware didn't change since Mavericks installation.
Thanks a lot in advance.

Using the new Piker-Alpha boot.efi for Yosemite, right? Not tiamo's boot.efi for Mavericks?

So the drive can boot your MacBook Pro, but not your Mac Pro?

More information here would be helpful. Stuck where? What happens if you pull any other bootable disk so it can only boot from Yosemite?

Yes. Creation date November 3, 2014, 11:42. Tried both black and grey backgrounds, it makes no difference (as expected).

Correct.

Good hint, I just tried it.
After clicking Alt at startup, I can see the main partition and the 10.0.1 Recovery Partition, and I can choose one of them with the mouse or the keyboard arrows, but when I click on either one of them (or press Enter) the pointer gets frozen... After a few seconds everything disappears and the display turns grey: no icons, no cursor, nothing. The void...

I took the SSD off and I connected it to the laptop again (I'm writing this post with it, of course). Both efi.boot files seem unmodified.

Weird, isn't it? Thanks a lot for your attention.

Is it somehow possible you are using the stock boot.efi somewhere?

I've copied the modified boot.efi in two directories, "/usr/standalone/i386" (invisible) and "System/Library/CoreServices", erasing the stock files before doing it. Is there another location, or another file to copy?

In the meantime, I booted the laptop with the Recovery partition from target SSD, checked all volumes and partitions and repaired permissions. I noticed that "efi.boot" in "/usr/standalone/i386" had wrong permissions and Disk Utility repaired it. But right after that I tried again to boot the Mac Pro, with the same disappointing results.

I didn't try booting in safe mode yet... I'm gonna try.

Where is the SSD plugged in and have you tried a standard HDD?

This shouldn't be needed so I'm just throwing out guesses, but can you boot somehow to a command prompt on that Mac Pro (install OS X media? older OS X install booted from another drive?) and bless the your SSD while it's in the Mac Pro?
Code:
sudo bless --folder /Volumes/SSDname --file /Volumes/SSDname/boot --setBoot

Handoff Mac Pro 1,1

Hi Guys,

I've done some searching but can't find an answer...

I installed the BCM94360CD wifi and bluetooth combo card in my Mac Pro 1,1 and it appears to be running fine. Bluetooth and wifi are working, and in System Preferences i'm getting the option to check on Handoff but it's not working.

System profile shows:

Bluetooth Low Energy Supported: No
Handoff Supported: Yes
Instant Hotspot Supported: Yes.

So I'm a little confused. Handoff seems to be compatible with the card, and it says it's supported, but it's not working and also Low Energy says not supported?

Plus my LMP Version shows as 0x3 not 0x6 which I'm assuming it should be with this card?

I haven't removed my old bluetooth card, not sure if this would cause a conflict? I doubt it as it doesn't have an antenna connected.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mac pro 2006 10.10.1 lag issues and system reports

I have 2006 Mac Pro.
I upgraded it to
2 x 2.66 GHz Intel Xeon Quad Core (eight cores)
32GB RAM
And didnt touch the GPU.

I created a 10.10 bootable USB stick and installed Yosemite with ease.

Before I upgraded to 10.10 the processor in About This Mac showed: 2 x 2.66 Unknown. RAM was ok. In order to have the processor reporting correctly, I need to do the Mac Pro 1,1 to 2,1 firmware update. It completed and the processor now showed: 2.66 GHz Intel Xeon Quad Core. (only 4 cores)

So it wasn't detecting the second processor. Also the GPU showed nvidia geforce with only 15mb VRAM when it has 512mb.

The OS is also very laggy and the animations take a while to kick in and when it changes pages the screen will have black lines until it fills up then it switches and loads with whatever colors there are in lines.

This might be confusing and I will probably downgrade but I was going to upgrade the GPU and max it out and maybe that will fix the graphics issue.

Wondering if anyone knows about this kind of stuff and could help.

Only one processor being detected after doing the firmware upgrade is normal but after a second reboot it should be detected. What GPU do you currently have?

IT WORKS!

I booted Mac Pro with Mavericks drive, blessed the SSD, zapped PRAM (should have done it before) and... voila the black screen of Yosemite :)

Mr.Zarniwoop, Demi-God is not enough. IMHO it's time to upgrade to Full God status ;)

Thanks a lot also to Hennesie2000. Guys, you're doing great.

2006/2007 Mac Pro (1,1/2,1) and OS X Yosemite

I have a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 512 mb

Thanks for the quick response.

That card is unsupported in Mavericks and Yosemite. It does not support the OpenCL needed which is why everything is lagging. Since there are no drivers for it in Yosemite it shows the 15mb vram.

Ah thank you. What card can I install to fix that problem. And make it run smoothly. :apple:

[Edit]

And the reboot will fix the processor issue?

There are lots of cards you can install. Depends on what you want to do with it and if you want a boot screen.

No boot screen and cheap - GT610
No boot screen and mid level - GTX 570
No boot screen and high end - GTX 970/980

Ok. Uh, what cards will have the boot screen and are mid - highend?

Also, why is there no boot screen??

Will the power supply be enough? I already have the dual CPU's and the max RAM..

They won't have a boot screen because they don't have an efi rom. The power supply is plenty for any card with a TDP under 225W (two six pin power connectors).

Read the first post of this thread, it has recommendations.

Similar to Hennesie2000's list:

Boot screen and cheap - Nvidia GeForce GT 120 or 9500 GT (either one if properly Mac-flashed EFI32 firmware)
Boot screen and mid level - AMD Radeon R9 280 or HD 7950 (either one if properly Mac-flashed EBC firmware)
Boot screen and high end - AMD Radeon R9 280X, HD 7970 GHz Edition, or HD 7970 (any of these if properly Mac-flashed EBC firmware)

So here's an odd one.

Been running mavericks on my 1.1 for months completely stable, avoiding updates. Ran like a dream. One day it updated to 10.9.5 without me touching it (was away from home for the weekend, but computer was on). Mavericks was no longer bootable.

So now from 10.6.8 again, I attempted Sfott and Sfott beta option for yosemite, but doesn't work.

Tried Piker, everything seemed to go to plan till step 15, everything edited to include new board ID's (I've even tried to change my 1.1 board ID to 3.1), when you replace the file and attempt to save:

(flat package editor error)
The document could not be saved.
This document cannot be saved with the original signing identity. Pick another identity or no identity to save this document.

I can boot via the USB, but as soon as it loads it comes up with an only restart option: OS X v10.10 is already installed on this computer

Sfott turned up a similar experience : Cannot be installed on this computer

any thoughts?

When 10.9.5 wasn't bootable it most likely overwrote one or both of Tiamos boot.efi files. If you had installed Tobyg's script it wouldn't have been an issue. If you still have that install just replace the boot.efi files again.
