2006/2007 Mac Pro (1,1/2,1) and OS X Yosemite

Hi All:

I have been away from these forums for awhile.. I have a Mac Pro 1,1 that I originally installed 10.8 and 10.9.5 using chameleon. I wanted to upgrade to Yosemite.

Is there anything different I'd have to do, or could someone direct me to a link with someone in my position.

Best.
K

Just read the first post of this thread

The link still works... I just tried it. Am I am positive the file is still there and I have not removed that share link for the file.

Since there needn't be an "online part of the setup installation", your explanation is wrong. That some of your attempts were unsuccessful is totally unrelated to would-be on-line Apple checks on anything. They were caused, most certainly, by checks by the installer itself of corruption therein (caused by a faulty pen drive or a faulty procedure in configuring it right) or by the invalid installer created or the defective procedure followed. If you follow the procedure verbatim and know what you are doing, it doesn't fail.

One of the most common causes of failure is the use of curly quotation marks. Several members of this forum that were "absolutely certain" they hadn't messed up with the quotation marks finally realized that they shouldn't have been so "certain", since the curly marks were the culprits (or rather themselves).

In any case, it's good you finally succeeded.

I believe the term they use is "featured bug". User error was not an issue in this case. Maverick's was the first time they decided to implement this strategy, and was the exact same solve. I was more interested in exploring what happens if you try to update from 10.6.8.

Sorry working now via downloading Copy app. Seem the only way to do it for me but thank you! :D

Hi Hennesie2000,

Firstly thank you for all your help and contributions to this thread, awesome work. Unfortunately I too am getting the "You’ve found a page that doesn’t exist!
But don’t fret... here’s a page that does." message, I have also tried via the Copy app but that is also not working.

Not sure why, I was downloading it successfully yesterday but it got interrupted and won't resume and now the error shows.

Thanks again

I will try Mega but it will be a while before it is uploaded. I think Copy is having issues because I have another file I was sharing with a family member and he was also get the could not be found issue.

I tried upgrading my Mac Pro in January, and it was taking far too long, with lots of failures and redoing steps w/o a different outcome.

I came back to it this week to see if anything had changed, and discovered this thread and the Piker-Alpha bootloader. Installed it on a flash drive, plugged it into a USB on the Mac. and pain free 30 minutes later was running on Yosemite.

VERY HAPPY!!

Time to go plug 20 euros in the author's donation box for this wonderful installer that saved me much time. Now I can turn this old Mac into the dedicated music synthesis and recording box I meant it to be, and spend time playing music... Now if I installed a SSD drive.... :)

Xserve 1,1

I was wondering if anyone was running this on a xserve 1,1 and what is the best vid card to get for it? Typically all my servers run headless and I remote into them so a low end card will do.

Also if anyone is running it did you install Yosemite Server on it? And does it support the LOM card?

Thanks
kb

this worked like a boss. For whatever reason, I couldn't upgrade from 10.9.5, I had to down grade to 10.7 then upgrade from there. Maybe I did something wrong, but what ever, I have 10.10 on my MacPro now. Super happy! :D

also having issues with the download from copy.com :/

also, the pages file is not loading - is it just me?

edit - found an old install - attaching.

Finally I downloaded Yosemite from the copy app, but it's not recognized at startup, I am doing correctly the restore on Disk Utilities to Usb, but it's not working

now I will try with the Softt way, but now I can't download from the page, someone have the Softt 1.4.4 on the cloud?

Could be your USB stick. Some have been known to be the problem.

I concur. I am also unable to download SFOTT from oemden.com. The site must be having a few issues.

Thunderbolt, eSATA and/or USB 3.0 PCI-Express expansion cards?

does anyone have any experience or suggestions making any models of these expansion cards work in these old Piker-Alpha Mac Pros we're running?
I have a Mac Pro 2,1 and I'm happy as a clam that I'm on Yosemite but would love some faster ports on it as well.

thanks in advance for any replies.

I have read several guides and I did not find solution for macbook pro 2,1.
So, Should I leave that idea or maybe you know some solution how to instal this os?
