That is not the same issue that they were having. Sounds like you have a corrupted installer.

Also, if only I had a dollar for every time someone said they "followed it to a T".

So, I downloaded a fresh copy from the AppStore. Rebuilt the installer carefully following step-by-step with this guide and it still fails with the same message and at the same spot. Is it possible that the Installer has changed and its introduced problems with this guide now? Should I try another method to build the installer? SFOTT perhaps?

Try a different USB stick. The installer guide works with 10.10.x. SFOTT is just an automated version of the guide. They do the same thing in the end.

I've tried on 2 different sticks now.

Does the volume that I'm installing on need to be wiped first in Disk Utility? Would that help?

It shouldn't need to be. I have reinstalled Yosemite over an existing Yosemite install to start with a fresh set of system files several times. Have you tried downloading the installer from the copy.com link I posted? That installer is what I use and it has worked for several other people.

Here is the link again: https://copy.com/ySNnndLkVBzbwSuy

If you have issues downloading let me know and I will upload it elsewhere.

Yes, but the direct download on copy.com is not working so I had to register with the site and then save a copy in my space and then download that. Its been downloading for the past couple hours. I'll try that and hope its good. Will report in. Thanks for the advice so far.

After struggling to download the image file multiple times off of copy.com, I finally got the whole thing but now it looks like the zip file is corrupted. File size I have is 5701400513 which matches whats up on the site. The MD5 checksum I have is e9771285bf50066c9febee4f1ab910e0. However, trying to unzip this and it doesn't decompress. I'm getting alot of errors. Is there any chance you can upload it to mega or somewhere else? copy.com just looks like a bag of problems.

Here‘s what unzip is spewing:

Code:

I did all that. This what is happening sorry for the orientation uploaded from my iPhone.

Hey Checkmate2006. I'm struggling with the exact same problem as you had with reaching about 15min remaining, and then this same error message. How did you end up getting past this?

Ive tried redownloading the Installer, recreating the Installer multiple times, following every step meticulously, tried multiple USB keys, nada. Same thing. And I get stuck using that downloaded pre-cooked image because the download site errors-out or gives me an invalid zip file on the rare occasion when it does work. Lastly, I tried using SFOTT on the Installer and it stops once the display comes up and says it cant install because Yosemite is already on the box. Then I tried manually apply the board-ID in the steps in the guide on that SFOTT key, and it actually runs alittle bit further, but gets stuck at an Unspecified Error: 0 on the Installer.

So now, I'm hoping someone can upload a pre-cooked installer image to another site other than copy.com like mega.co.nz and then maybe that might work. But other than that, I think I've exhausted everything that I can. I cant get this thing to install without erroring out as it is. Any help from anyone would be great! Thanks

I am going to upload it overnight. Be patient though it is a 5.3GB file.

Here is a link of the file on mega:

Success using external HD install method!

Hi all,

I'm happy to report that I successfully installed and am running Yosemite on my MacPro1,1 with an unflashed HD5770! Booyaka!

You might have read above but I had absolutely no success with either the guide, with downloading the pre-cooked image, or trying to apply SFOTT on the installer. Only the last option worked. What I ended up doing was pulling my drive out into a USB external drive sled and did the install using a Yosemite capable MBA.

After trying ALL of the methods, I have to say that this is by far the easiest and cleanest. In case this is helpful for others, here's the steps I took to get it working:

  1. Pull the target drive out of your Mac Pro and insert into a USB external drive caddy and follow this guide to both format and install Yosemite onto the target drive using a Yosemite capable Mac
  2. Once the install is complete, the system will reboot and boot up from the target drive. Select your language and keyboard and connect to WIFI and your Apple ID and finish the setup wizard until you get to Yosemite Desktop
  3. Once booted up on the Yosemite Desktop on the Press CMD-Space to pull up the spotlight search and type "terminal" and ENTER
  4. type "sudo bash" ENTER
    and enter your admin password
  5. cd /System/Library/CoreServices
  6. chflags nouchg boot.efi
  7. cp "/Volumes/original disk/Users/username/Desktop/boot.efi" .
  8. chflags uchg boot.efi
  9. cd /usr/standalone/i386
  10. chflags nouchg boot.efi
  11. cp "/Volumes/original disk/Users/username/Desktop/boot.efi" .
  12. chflags nouchg boot.efi
  13. exit
  14. Shutdown the mac, remove drive and insert back into your Mac Pro and powerup and wait for Yosemite to boot up. And bam!

I stored the modded 32bit boot.efi on the desktop of the yosemite capable MBA which I ran the installer from. If you are doing the same, replace the BOLDED original disk and username in the commands above with the name of the Volume and Username of yours.

Also, after rebooting the Yosemite capable system, the installer will launch again. If you don't want to put Yosemite on the system, just go to the Menu Bar and select the Installer dropdown and Quit Yosemite Installer. Then select Startup Disk. And reselect the original disk and restart. Then you will boot up like normal.

I wanna give a huge heartfelt thanks to Hennesie2000 for trying to help me through this process. It is interesting that I was able to install this way using the same Installer image that I got from the AppStore that I was using to try to build the keys. The guide might need revisions because something might have changed? Anyway, thanks to everyone for all their work in keeping our MacPros a little less obsolete. Hopefully, I can get another 3-4 years of life out of this baby. Vielen herzlichen dank!

Nothing has changed where the guide needs to be modified. I promise you this. The fact that you were able to boot and begin the install process shows the guide works. If the guide didn't work you wouldn't be able to boot or even begin installing. More than likely the problem lies with your usb stick. Also the method you ended up doing has been posted many times in this thread as an option.

It could very well be a hardware issue with my usbkeys (plural). But, I'm happy that this method works. In the least, this method was not documented previously so I hope that helps. It might be an alternative for people that don't have available usbkeys or perhaps just bad ones like me? In the end, it was a very easy install. Thanks again Hennesie2000 for helping me through this. You were always responsive and helpful, and I really appreciate that! Best.

2006 Xserve Issue

Hello all -

I'm having an issue with my Xserve 1,1.

It's running OS X Yosemite via Piker-Alpha's boot.efi, however, every time I boot with a PC graphics card inserted into a PCIe slot for graphics acceleration, the boot fails. With my Geforce 405, the Xserve just reboots itself. With my Radeon 6450, the boot hangs right around [PCI Configuration Begin].

The weird part is, WITHOUT the graphics card installed, it's FINE. And even weirder, it will boot a Leopard install (obviously no drivers for the 6450 or 405 in that system) WITH the cards installed. Very strange. Anyone else having this experience?

Install Yosemite

Hi all and congrats on your hard work with Yosemite on MacPro1,1, the best Mac computer in the history of mac computers and perhaps history of computers. 2 issues here...

Question 1: I am trying to install Yosemite on Maverick 10.9. I used omden for Mave last year. I can't find an install copy of Yosemite. Anyone knows a link where I can find the install copy? The link for www.copy.com is dead.

Last year, with Mave on Lion, I used a kext utility. This does not work for Yosemite.

Question 2: I am currently on 10.9 mave. Do I have to be on Mave 10.9.5 to install Yosemite, or do I need to go back to OSX Mountain? I do have a drive with Mountain, backedup last year....

Thanks for your help.

I just posted a link on MEGA a few post ago. The copy link isn't dead but they are having issue. I have other shared files there that people are having trouble with as well.

Confirmed, I just clicked, and it's coming down from mega.

Please let me know whether I need to be on Mave 10.9.5 or Lion to install Yosemite. I am afraid if I upgrade to 10.9.5, the mac won't boot back.

Thank you.

I don't know. I have a friend who upgraded from 10.9.5 and I don't remember if I tested upgrading from a fresh install of 10.9.0 or not.

I upgraded from 10.9.5 and my only problem was that I got impatient and cold started my mac and then thought I had lost a bunch of files, but they were all in /Revovered Items on the boot volume

Problem booting from USB.

I was able to download the patched dmg file yesterday from the Copy.com link and after unzipping the file on OSX(got Errors on Windows) i had to re-scan the file before being able to restore it on my USB drive. After waiting patiently i was able to boot from the USB-Stick and the loading Screen was visible but then this:

Unbenannt1933.jpg

I'm trying to install yosemite on a Mac Mini 1.83Ghz from late 2006(upgraded T7600 CPU and 2GB RAM) tho. and not a Mac Pro. Is there anything i can do or am i stuck on Leopard forever? It's a shame since Windows 8.1 runs like a charm on the exact same Mac Mini.

Thank you in advance
John

Your machine can run Yosemite. I have a similar one I use to test WiFi AC cards.

Easiest to just do install in a supported machine then move over the boot.efi files and put drive in Mini. Those who understand target disk mode can have an even easier time but will likely require a TB to FireWire adapter of some sort.

You will want to find the 64 bit 950A drivers or it will be truly awful. And accept that you will never have full GPU acceleration. (Unless you use MPCIE slot for eGPU)

But I can verify that C2D Mini can run Yosemite.

Hello,

Anyone that had upgraded a Mac pro (1,1/2,1) to Yosemite and a EVGA Nvidia GTX 570 HD 2.5GB?. I had received my GTX 570 HD but there no video signal, I can hear the cputer's boot sound. Also, I had installed the web drivers and upgraded the stock drivers, any advise please?.

Thanks.

Hopefully not a flashed one?

Flashed ones only function from 1 or 2 ports. In an EFI32 machine using an EFI64 card will never help anything, only hinder. Same with Hackintosh.

You need to specify which ports you tried and how you connected to which display.

Hello there,

The GTX 570 is a non flashed PC card, I am using a Apple 23-inch (1920 x 1200) Cinema Display on one of the DVI ports, I had tried both but with no signal, other users had reported no issues using the same card, I had followed all the instructions but no luck.
