In the patcher just go to Options>uncheck auto-apply post install patches. then just apply all but legacy video patch after installing.

thx, this info could be very useful for some people !
I presume you have to do this somewhat quickly before the auto restart of the catalina installer... ?

Nope, just deselect the option before doing anything with Catalina Patcher, and it will set that option in its flags. You can use any of the installation methods, and as long as you have that option deselected, it will not run the post-install patches automatically.

Thanks, no luck enabling brightness on any of those cards yet. If you are still looking for something for a 21" iMac the K2100M should perform very close to the 765M (but with a 55W TDP) and I think I can get brightness control working on that, I will be releasing a rom for it soon but you can still get them pretty cheaply on eBay at the moment. For most cards I think brightness control will need a bootrom mod or OpenCore to load a DSDT patch, so maybe we can be combine it with the HD audio code 12 fix etc. I'll try and post a guide for brightness control with the Quadro roms, but I've got a lot of stuff going on a moment so it might have to wait a few weeks.
What about K1100M? They are really cheap.

perhaps also a vbios will be released for that card too someday, who knows.
a cheap card, having an EFI bootscreen is always handy for some of us.. ;)

Great for some 09/10 iMac users out there to know.. ;)

So please correct me if I am in mistake.

START: at the moment the Imac doesn't start, no graphic card, I can't change nothing by software, High sierra inside.

1) buy a graphic card :) dell alienware 765m, 770m, 780m

- Do I need a graphic card plain or with heat pipeline?

2) flash the card. How? no practice about and fear to burn it.

4) "There are 2 mods needed to make the MXM B card fit. First you must grind down your heatsink in the area where two large coils sit, this way the card will sit flush with the heatsink. Second, you must drill out the rivets on Dell’s X-Clamp or grind away Apple’s X-Clamp so no capacitors or components touch the X-Clamp or sit under it. Skipping this step can fry or damage your card."

I don't understand -_-

3)Mount the card, remount all the rest and that's all.

Just flashed my Dell 765M with the beta3 bios and bootscreens work fine now, thank you.
All that's left is the brightness adjustment ;)

Steps i took, starting with a Dell 765M in the iMac:
1. Disabled SIP mode in recovery mode using:
sudo nvram "recovery-boot-mode=unused"
sudo reboot
2. Created bootcamp partition and used winclone to restore the image from FlorisVN on it.
3. Booted into the bootcamp partition by changing the startup disc in settings.
4. Using an external screen i found the ip address of the imac and used RDP to connect.
5. Used nvflash64 -b bios.rom to backup
6. Then i needed to use nvflash64 --protectoff to disable eeprom protection
7. nvflash64 765M.bin to flash the custom bios
8. Now i can use the bootscreen and bootcamp also uses the internal screen now.

Great to hear, my winclone image could be of service to you aswell ;) !

Btw i dont see a reason to disable SIP, but perhaps I missed something here.. ?
Will be attemptingto flash to beta 3 this week, on a vanilla iMac..

Hello! Installed GTX 860 high sierra everything worked fine. I installed windows and flashed a bios card, but after installing katalina the computer stopped loading and only a black screen! The external monitor does not show either! Help me figure out what could be the problem?

Felt like I couldnt winclone/boot into windows without SIP disabled. Hard to say because I couldn't see what was happening

what iMac model are you using first of all ?
there is no EFI bootscreen mod so far, for the GTX860 as far as I know.
But it should work withouth bootscreen, and perhaps a little bit less performance..

Ok, I have never disabled SIP in the past for the Winclone bootcamp image to work.
But I am going to try it again today, If I can find the time for it..

Imac 1312 2009 27" The high sierra worked great! After installing Catalina stopped loading! An external monitor does not display anything either, you probably have to insert a regular video card to boot into katalina.

hi,

Your problem is I think simple to solve !
reinstall MacOS Catalina using dosdude1 patcher, and make sure you DESELECT legacy video patcher, since this patch is no longer needed since you have upgraded your GPU !

See also info and comment from dosdude1 here above !

Hey all, does anyone know if the k1100m will work in the early 09 iMac? I see a lot of discussion regarding late 09 and 2011, being that the late 09 people are looking to upgrade, and the 2011 people are replacing faulty cards.

I have 2 cards otw, both were purchased on the cheap cheap. Apple HD6970m and k1100m. On a separate thread, Roman suggested other cards than the HD6970m, and while aware of the failure rate on these, this one was working and cheap. I opted for the k1100m that Roman suggested because of the 20 dollar price tag.

Anyone know if these will work with an early 09 iMac using dosdudes HS patcher?
Will I need to install the OS on a HD outside of the machine due to the bootscreen issue present with non native cards?
Are newer versions of macOS natively supported with either card?

I use f.lux on my screen, which is an amazing app. https://justgetflux.com/news/pages/macquickstart/

This app appears to disable my brightness controls on my keyboard... so the app will do whats best based on region and time. Do you think the k1100m will render this app unusable?

I will post updates after this weekend when I complete the quick project.

nope as far as I know, all 09 core 2 duo models will not work.
for 09 iMac's, you need at least an core i 27" model..
2010-2011 models, are all no problem..

You can probably try but I don't think the Early 09 can be upgraded though if yours has an MXM slot you could try. Imo all imacs older than Late 2009 aren't worth bothering with because of laptop CPUs and 32bit EFI. I'm not too sure about GPU compatibility on Late 2009 21.5" and Core 2 Duo 27" but the 27" with the Core i5/i7 CPU should work just fine, those are basically the same as the Mid 2010 models.

I’m going to at least try. Maybe it’s not powerful, but it’s geekbench scores on single core are respectable when compared to my i5 Mac mini. It’s not really that bad and works well for what I do with it.
I believe the efi is 64 bit on the 09, I’ll reference the Everymac.com where it states that, however, it could be wrong. This machine does have an mxm slot. I believe it’s the shorter a style card in there now, but because I have an ssd rather than the original hhd, it will fit with some minor modification to the hard drive bracket. It’s interesting that I can’t find anyone else who’s done it which could either mean most don’t think it’s worth it, or it’s just not possible.
Thanks for the reply.

Hi,
I also use a GTX860......... with which did you flash the GTX860? Do you have a boot screen?

the 09 core 2 duo imacs, do have an MXM slot.
i believe it's MXM 2.0 or 1.0 instead of version 3.0

Also the vbios of these nvidia/amd cards are not compatible with the layout of the core 2 duo models.
And therefore could perhaps also not give any video at all.

Some heavy vbios modding will be required I think, in order to make it work at all.
also as far as I know all 09 Mac's do indeed have full 64Bit EFI.

Hi,
I also use a GTX860......... with which did you flash the GTX860? Do you have a boot screen?

At present, there is no boot screen mod applicable to the GTX 860M. The only reason to flash the card would be for no display, indicating it is likely running incompatible vBIOS. IF your 860M is working, then you are all good.

Hello everyone! I hope someone help me! I installed the Dell/Alienware GTX765m video card in my imac 27” model year 2011, but I got only black screen, no startup sound. I thought that with this card the system started up without the bootscreen, but I was wrong. Do you have any suggestions? the current system is High Sierra 10.13.6. please help me, thanks!

Thank you for the sobering answer... maybe there will be a solution in the future...
My Mac works fine with Catalina but no boot screen.

Yes, I did it!) Finally, I waited for the programmer and updated the new Kepler Beta3 BIOS from Nick [D] vB. Thanks bro for doing such an excellent job!
How did I do it:
I disassembled the iMac, took out the motherboard from it and then the video card.
I took a Windows laptop from a friend, installed the ch341a programmer 1.34 software and drivers for it.
I connected the clipper to the BIOS chip and stuck it in the USB port, opened the ch341a programmer 1.34 software, selected 1- Detected, 2- Selected the exact chip model, 3- Read, 4- Save (dump BIOS, just in case), 5- Erase, 6 - Chose the bios of Nick; 7- Write
Done!
Assembled iMac, everything is ready.
