these are my kernel panics and its very unstable. cant run geek bench suddenly, yesterday I ran unigine valley and it was stable…

Hm, now that you mentioned this, i can also see these lines if i'm looking really closely, but its all over the screen, not just on the left third.I don't know if this was there with the old GPU.

Looks like I managed the instability and kernel panics: deleted GeForce.kext from the hackintosh community, used by hwmonitorsmc ;)

looking good. Only issue is the external monitor. Any ideas?

After installing the current version of the Nvidia Web Driver on an up to date 10.11.5 El Capitan, I can't get the iMac's internal screen to work. Everything else seems to be working: OSX detects the 780M and works perfectly on an external display, Screen Share or Airplay.

I've made some benchmarks and can confirm huge improvements on either OS, which leads me to believe there's no problem with the GPU and that it is correctly installed.
Neither OS seems to recognise the 27-inch internal display. OSX sees it as being a 23-inch display with a single resolution of 1280 x 1024.

I've checked and double checked that all the LCD's cables (VSync, LVDS, power and backlight) are correctly plugged in to the logic board and inverter board.
What could be happening? Does anyone who had black screen issues with their 780M had the same symptoms?
Is it possible that I somehow damaged the LCD or any of the cables? I handled everything with care and can't see any noticeable damage on the cables. I ran out of ideas and I'm at a loss on how to diagnose what's happening. Does anyone have a clue? It's the same card, same brand, pulled from the same system, with the same VBIOS as the ones other members have been reporting working.

Off topic: just noticed @MacVidCards got suspended. That's a huge blow to anyone who has been following this thread hoping for any custom ROM solutions for our problems.

I created a template for a HDD fan duct for a 27" iMac. You can print this out(make sure scale is 100%) onto a thicker cardboard type paper, glue it together and reinforce it on the outside with tape :)

Question #1:
I noticed you have mojave/HS on 2 partitions. When you boot up your computer without pressing the option key which one does it default load into, Mojave or High Sierra? Thanks.

Question #2:
Did you do the mojave/HS install before or after physically installing the modded video card. Thanks!

If you have the modded video card(assuming Nick's bios), you have boot screen, so you can select whichever partition you want to load. Since we have boot screen, its not really required anymore to have a fallback High Sierra install. So you can just swap the card and install Catalina normally.

I have both operating systems for testing, I don't use High Sierra much anymore but I keep it around. When we had no boot screen it was useful to keep High Sierra around as a PRAM reset would default boot to it. Your iMac was always use NVRAM to determine which OS to boot from, which can be set from System Preferences, or when a new OS install is complete. You can mod the Graphics card ROM anytime it doesn't make a difference anymore.
 
I have the GTX765M in my Mac 27” 2011 and temperatures are correct for now if I use Mac fan control to raise the fan speed a little.

but I was wondering what about the temps with the GTX780M or GTX770M?

Is the iMac overheating with these cards?
 
Got a 770m and it’s ok. Heatsink Monitor is about 55 Celsius during normal work / Surfing. With Games or benchmark it’s another story

For everyone asking about the small lines on their display - it is NOT a product of the new GPU. 2 of my 3 27" iMacs have this, it seems it's just what the display unit does over time. I have it on a 2011 with a replaced GPU and a 2010 with the original GPU.

some info on my experience

2011 Imac 27" i7 32gbram GTX780M 4 gb ram flashed with Nicks vbios ( internal super drive has issues )

Installing Win10 has been a huge challenge. I cannot install from a DVD being my superdrive is not functioning. Here is the only way I was able to install windows 10

Issue is the iMac wants a UEFI startup or nothing happens. Windows 10 usb install wants an NTFS drive. Nothing i did resulted in a bootable OS. Except this. I formatted an external thunderbolt ssd drive to Mac OS Journaled GUID. ( note i have a VM version of win10 to get this to work ). When running VM win10 I plugged in thunderbolt drive and selected use with VM. Then in VW win10 I formatted drive be leaving the Uefi partition but reformatted the large partition to NTFS . Then used WINUSB to load the windows 10 ISO. This works but no onboard audio audio. That still will not work. I have tried all recommended options with no success . See this link. 2011 Imac 27" i7 32gbram GTX780M 4 gb ram flashed with Nicks vbios ( internal super drive has issues )

Installing Win10 has been a huge challenge. I cannot install from a DVD being my superdrive is not functioning. Here is the only way I was able to install windows 10

Issue is the iMac wants a UEFI startup or nothing happens. Windows 10 usb install wants an NTFS drive. Nothing i did resulted in a bootable OS. Except this. I formatted an external thunderbolt ssd drive to Mac OS Journaled GUID. ( note i have a VM version of win10 to get this to work ). When running VM win10 I plugged in thunderbolt drive and selected use with VM. Then in VW win10 I formatted drive be leaving the Uefi partition but reformatted the large partition to NTFS . Then used WINUSB to load the windows 10 ISO. This works but no onboard audio audio. That still will not work. I have tried all recommended options with no success . See this link. Theres an installation method described in #3,866 and its pretty easy to to. Install Catalina, create a Windows 10 USB installer, Use daemon tools to create a fake dvd drive, setup using Bootcamp assistant(1 extra fix in terminal is needed, but its super easy) and just install Win10. Theres no onboard audio with this either though, but as i mentioned earlier i used a simple usb soundcard and that works(for external sound obviously).
 
Do I first have to install the gpu in order to flash the bios to it? I don't want to have windows/linux on this machine, I simply want to upgrade the gpu so I can run After Effects without so much lag. It throws off all my timing.

I have a 2011 iMac 21", an Alienware 765M, and a CH341a programmer. Also available to me I have a MacBook Pro and a Win 10 PC. Can I use the PC to flash the gpu?

I've been wanting to do this since last summer, avoiding asking to be "spoon fed". But this is unfamiliar territory and with all the developments and variations it's a quite complex topic. I'd super appreciate some guidance, thanks!

If you have a CH341-a and clip then by all means please use this method! It is so much easier to go this route as you don't have to worry about Nvidia drivers, screen sharing etc. The chip is a MXIC 25L006E which can be flashed as an MX25L2005 using "CH341A programmer Black Edition." The red wire on the clip corresponds circular indent on the EEPROM. Make sure when clicking the detect button you have Values and not "$FF". After erasing/blanking and programming make sure you verify the new Flash by clicking "verify".

My concern here is a 765M+ 21.5" you may run into to power draw issues/Random reboots as I did with my 770M/21.5" experiment. Because you are installing a 765m/MXM-B card into a an MXM-A slot, you will need to break one of your HDD brackets off and grind away at an SSD caddy or become more creative. I'm hoping that because you have a 765m and not a 770m the power draw won't be as bad. But generally now we are all recommending the K2100m as a drop in replacement for the 21.5". Since you already have the 765M in your possession might as well try. Make sure you drill out the rivets on the back of the card, or if using the Apple X bracket you have to grind away certain areas to not touch capacitors/resistors on the back of the card. If random reboots occur they will be most noticeable in Mojave, High Sierra wasn't as noticeable. Good luck.

First: hello all and thanks for your intelligence posts about problems and resolving it. Thanks to dosdude for keep my mac 2011 21,5 still works and updates. Thank Nick ! Without him i’ve never change my old radeon to new 765m and some customize cooling.thx for all guys in other threads. Btw: to upper post: i have reboots with my 765m and catalina after i miss a thing about isolation some elements on plate, after that problems gone.

1.First i start with modify original radiator, i fully slick line for ram contact From one side. Pollish it. Next i use pure copper ~3mm plates for ram. friend make it on factory with laser cutting.

Because i update cpu (put my i5 to 2600s i7). That was a long process.

And on GPU: after modify radiator side and take away peaces, that don’t make plates of copper normally touch the vram. I use thermalglue to attach copper plates to radiator. (Just a 3 plates on one side with thermalpaste). And thermal pads on other side .

Isolent used to isolate one of element on card. And because of them all radiator tubes was pushing up about 1,5-2cm.

White is thermal glue.

Don’t have photo aff thermalpad on mosfets but i use it in the end. So everybody work like a watch.

And after i isolate all parts, where gtx touch other components (i cut off one rubber hole - hdd holder, cause it make pressure to cars) and another - near wi-fi module and radiator tubes everything ok. I ‘m on catalina.

Is anyone experiencing sleep/wake issues with its iMac 27" 2011 under Catalina using a GTX765M flashed?

I am either getting a black screen (no backlight) or the screen stays black (backlight is on) with a mouse cursor when trying to wake up the iMac. I have to restart the iMac manually.
I can't tell if it's the Catalina upgrade that brought this or flashing the GPU. Before, using High Sierra with the default Bios, the iMac would wake up normally.

BTW, I have applied all the Catalina patches from Dosdude list.

The third method, which i did is to buy a cheap usb soundcard. Works plug and play in both win and macos, so i don't need to switch wires when switching OS.

Edit: i just saw Sricca talks about the internal speakers, no idea about that one.

installed clover from high sierra and added the modified dsdt. Just need to boot from the clover EFI .

This is fantastic . I have 2011 Imac GTX 780m GPU working with boot screen and windows 10 fully working from efi boot . Thanks all

If I remember correctly you need to install a modded intel hd 3000 kext for sleep to work right, search the forum for intel hd 3000 to try and find guides/links.
