3rd LED will only be on with modified ROMs that are made which add LED logic board support. @FlorisVN post:#3455.
4th LED is communication with LCD screen (LCD screen physically connected).

What's concerning is the 100% fan speeds, check all your other connections again.

i have checked all cables, put GPU out and in... clean the contacts ... but nothing helped.... i will try to flash the flash 860m renew...

yes is 3rd led then we can use start up manager and recovery (?) ...

my keyboard also lights up ... on the amd card when it lights up i see the desktop

Since you have a 6770m a k2100m makes the most sense as a drop in replacement for you. If you use a larger card on an MXM-A heatsink certain components will not be covered. If you want backlight control you can also use Open Core with the k2100m for proper backlight control.

Thanks, that's a shame as I was looking to use a GTX 770m. Has anyone in this thread successfully used cooling mods like copper shims long term that you know of?

I bought one heatskink from eBay (France, PlaceDuMac). Don't use nothing on the back of the card (like copper pads). The card doesn't need it. Mod the heatskink to perfect assembly the mxm card, use good thermal pads and paste. And use a small x-bracket, not the larger one (if you have a 6770, that x-bracket would be perfect).

Exactly. And the K2100m is a good enough card.
I did some gaming on Bootcamp yesterday. The 6770m could barely maintained 20fps on overwatch on low.
The k2100m last night games at 60fps (54fps 1%low) at 1080p medium settings. The improvement is massive.

Yeah I think you might be right! I'd really love to use a GTX 770 but buying a new heatsink to upgrade to such an old card might be too much. Have you played any other games with your K2100M?

I found this thing on eBay - an HP K2100m, looks like its a regular MXM form factor in a huge heatsink / fan case thing. anyone know if I could take that lot off to reveal something I could use?

If trying to flash with an HP card you most likely need to use a clip to flash. From what I read there is no external display trying to flash with the HP ROM. I also read you could SSH flash blindly with Linux, but that likely requires a decent amount of preparation setting up wifi copying files to directories etc.

Also with a clip it may appear all pins are touching the legs of the EEPROM but it could be slightly off. Just fair warning. But I have always had success with flashing my cards.

That’s subject your HP card comes with a VBIOS chip which is unlikely. That’s why DELL cards are a must.

ALL the HP K1100M and K2100M cards I have seen have a rom chip without exception.
Yup which is not what is being modified here.
The HP cards don’t have a separate EEPROM that stores DELL’s custom VBIOS.
The CH314a was the old way to load Nick custom VBIOS on the card until we were able to use the nvflash utility.
So to cut the story short, HP card can’t be modded. They may get you to the desktop, but no backlight control, no EFI bootscreen, etc.

look like card is dead :(
3rd led off means motherboard can't contact graphic card
try to connect to your imac via another computer using a usb stick like if you want to flash the graphic card
etablish connection then use nvflash
if no nvida card found you will get the answer.... RIP

happy you found a good issue :)
my k2100m wasn't recognize no nvidia graphic adapter I am waiting for a flasher... last chance

jupp, i install new catalina or use my timemachine backup .... for you good luck and thank you :)

I prefer a clean instal then timemachine is your friend :)
May I am wrong but you got to unselect legacy graphic card option , or thing like that
when catalina install is done, start again using the usb stick of catalina then choose post install and unselect the option about old graphic card, I prefer select force Ktext too :)
start again normally and enjoy

Hi guys,

it is amazing to see that a lot of people want to revive their 2011 iMacs aswell. It is a fantastic machine and I would love to use it regularly again. For that to happen, it needs to have Catalina running. Since the inital post is quite old and I cannot read 206 pages, my question is:

Would anybody be so kind to update me on the latest status? I want my 27 inch late 2011 to run Catalina smoothly.

Is there any GPU recommended that does not need requiere a flash, is plug and play compatible and still offers backlight control and sidecar?

I have to open my imac anyways to swap the PSU.

Thanks a lot

You can find some plug and play cards on AliExpress, or eBay.

No, there is no such GPU here!
There are commercial offers available, though.

No, the initial post has been updated only few days ago to cover the most recent software developments. You will find it there, probably except the findings of the users playing around with the latest software update.

Until we become Borg you cannot except that each "individual" experience is flowing back to a common conscience, immediately.

The best I can recommend is getting a WX 4170 or WX 7100, if available somewhere.
But you have to flash it, damn it. And install OpenCore, and configure it!
