ok i understand that thanks for your help with this im going to search the thread to see if any one got a firepro to work with the imac 2011 i just dont have the money right now for a wx7100 or the wx4170 and im not that good a solding i now with the wx4170 there is no bios chip on the the wx4170
NO, there are just two versions of the WX4170 - one has a BIOS chip and this is working. The other not. There is no need to solder and it is not possible to solder it, too. Please search the thread for answers and pictures and reread post #1.

Just to let you guys know, I just successfully flashed a HP (not a Dell) K1100M with Nick[D]vb’s ROM, and put it in my 2011 iMac 27. While I was at it, installed an SSD and installed Catalina :)

Thanks for all your help in this topic everyone! :)
Did you do any alterations to the heat sink when you installed the K1100. I'm trying to do it but k1100 card doesn't sit in the heat sink flat. Also some of the parts are touching the sides of the heat sink. How did you manage it.

I will not write this a third time:

In that case you need to use a 0.5mm copper plate between GPU and heat sink, otherwise you burn your GPU. This gives you contact like a sandwich: gpu - copper plate - heatsink. At the same time the card gets more distance from the sink and coils and caps cannot touch it. you may also try a 1mm copper plate of size 10mm x 10mm.

You may also use tape to isolate big coils or caps from touching the sink.

Sorry I did search a lot for the answer couldn't find it. That was the reason for the question again. I managed put thermal pads around the heat sink and the card sits flat now. But as you had mentioned there is a gap between the gpu and the copper heat sink. I need to find a copper sheet now to fill in the gap.
Thanks again.

i didnt have to modify any thing to mine wen i put my k100m in 27 inch imac but what i did notice is the x bracket dose touch a resistor but i used the 2011 21inch x bracket and it worked fine for me
Yeah I noticed that and I'm going to cut out the part with the dremel. I've put thermal pads all around the sink to avoid contact with the chips. But there is a gap between the GPU and the copper heat sink. I got a suggestion from"
Ausdauersportler" to put another .5mm copper plate to make contact with the GPU and the heat sink. I've to look for a copper plate now.

I did the same K1100 card in the 21.5 mac it worked like a charm without any alterations.

Anyway thanks a lot for your reply.

ok i will do that as well thanks for the insight thanks again

what is your card?
The one inside my friend's iMac is HD6750 which replaced by Official Apple shop once several year ago.

I bought a card exactly shown at the bottom of photo.
(No component sitting on Q1306)

Yeah, here they are side by side. You can see they look similar. But even after removing components from my RX560M to make it visually like my WX4130, it still never was detected in the 2011.

On the 2010 model, once the Card hits a high Power signal on the MXM pin, it will make the a few temp signals drop off (129C) causing the whole system to run the fans at 100% and the CPU to throttle to 1.6GHz. I wasted alot of money on AMD MXM cards, and I'm a bit hesitant to recommend them, the safest bet for me is the WX4130. I have 2 working 00D cards.

Also we haven't seen much work on the EG2 ROMs for the AMD cards. And I don't see Apple releasing any new Firmware update for older 12,1/12,2 iMac's so maybe do the EFI module mod? I know there is risk of knocking components off the board. But I've done it, idk somehow I'm patient enough to do it.
you got a wx4130 to work in your imac 2011 /2010 thats cool cool man i never did a efi module mod what is that and will it make the wx 4150 work inside the imac 2011 /2010

If yours is missing those extra components, there is a good chance it might work. Also check the area of pull up resistors sitting below the Die and compare them to some WX4150s.

oh ok do i have to do that to my gpu or the imac mother bord what do u recommend to use to take the resistors off i really never did that at all but i would like to give it a try thanks

Can you show pics of said cards not working? I have some HP model cards that won't let ANY iMac's power on at all. They are a Blue Custom PCB card. It's not all waste though, they work great in the HP 800 g1.
ok i can do that now

You mean the ROM? Just look for RX560 EG2 they should be here somewhere by @Nick [D]vB it will take me a while to dig for them. Also just flashing the ROM to the card won't fix a hardware issue, some (AMD) cards just don't work. It's like Russian Roulette. An expensive game.

Nope that won't fix it. I ripped tons (about 5) of components off my RX560M, I mean if the card is useless you can experiment all you want. If I had to put money on it, I think the pull up resistor has to be relocated to match the WX4130, but I don't have a reflow station, and steady hands to do such a job.

i under stand that tho my cards are hps i think i do have a w5170m that gets to green lights in tthe imac but i dont think there is no gop bios at all

i flashed it be with the wx4150_gop.rom but it didnt work at all i think it the fans just ramped up and then it would turn on and off or something like that i cant remember at all cuz it was some time ago but this card work in my zbook g2 and my hp 8770w

So I originally thought it could have been a blank VBIOS issue. But you're telling me that with a GOP ROM it wasnt working? You won't see LED 3 with a GOP ROM because be there is no Firmware initialization/handshake with the iMac's EFI, it would have to be EG2 modded for this to work. I know it's probably to late, but I'd like for you to create a High Sierra install with the login screen Disabled, plugged into Ethernet, and remote screen sharing enabled. Then you can see from another Mac if the card is recognized.

But more than likely something is slightly different about the card because it's a HP model and it's not recognized.

I have pics of @internetzel card which did work, but had a blank VBIOS on arrival, you can use these pics to compare to you HP card to come to your own conclusions.

Also please use punctuation it's late at night, I can barely read.

yeah my card is different then your card. your card is 109-c98581-00_02 and mine is 109-c98581-10_02. im going to try to find that card u have for my imac. and i will do the remote loggin thing but not with is card cuz it dose not do the hand shake. with the efi im going to do the order for the card u have. and the report back to see if it works thanks again for the insight

You can try it with the GOP ROM. The EG2 ROM to get working needs alot of work, and risks damaging your Logic board, you will have to Clip your EEPROM to flash modded firmware to your logic board, sorry it's probably too advanced for some people here.

Make sure it's a WX4150
