Lady Titan, it's more complicated than you think!
These new GPU upgrade for replaceable iMacs GPU are in experimental status. there is no guarantee nor 100% it's all your own risk!
here is not Apple company, here are some good heart people doing list of some new experimental for goods!
so experimental status are usually hard! and many unknown questions are unanswered..... because it's unknown or needs scanning the issues. it's not a simply to say "hey computer why don't you work with my new GPU?" 😄
but did you know there is one more important thing, there is no stable CoronaVirus Vaccine treatment! it's probably about 10 months and the virus is still spreading around the world! nearly about 1 million people are dead!
millions of people care about to build and make CoronaVirus Vaccine.
Good people here answered that it took at least 6 months, latest replaceable GPU iMac is 2011 but we're now 2020! and Apple does not care!
people here have pleased not to ask when or duplicated questions, but there are really thankful to post the new bugs and issues if you did exactly what they listed what to do with new GPU. we need to respect them, they need help.
it's Apple that made trouble, why can't you simply change HDD 3.5" without OWC HDD sensor? why not upgrade GPU when it's already possible? peaceful Safety? Apple charges people! if iPhones were at reasonable price, they would rule the world!
as for your second and third issue.
Did you add the kexts for Catalina to fix sleep issue and to re-enable quick sync?
For windows you can't use bootcamp to make a bootable drive (Assuming you have a 2011)
Go read my post here #9066 and follow the guide I linked in that post.
I'm not running a gtx880m but this should work regardless of your gpu.
It looks complicated at first but if you can flash a gpu this is a walk in the park.
ALL INFO - Recommendation - WITHOUT WARRANTYno Lady Bonus possible !!!
Hmm, if I read your configuration with Core i7 & GTX880M the power consumption is for sure at
a high level. This should be one of the reasons the display went dark at maximum brightness, but
also you should install the KEXTDrop App to install the modified AppleBackLightFixup.KEXT also as
AppleGraphicsControl.KEXT - everything found as link on page#1 of this threat !
Control or disable all Hibernate / Sleep / Deep Sleep modes with Terminal command "pmset"
- PMSET for Beginners.
- Buy alternative USDT PC for WIN10 Games & Apps (as an iMac runs WIN10 it's same as
you want to drive Off-Road with a Lamborghini) - better use High Sierra for Apps and macOS
Mojave or Catalina for metal based Steam Games (2. partition on HDD / SSD).
- Native WIN10 Installation without using BootCamp (disable macOS HDD and boot with
WIN Install DVD or bootable WINDOWS USB Stick)
For testing various KEXT files to solve your machines different functional problems (?)
KEXT install for beginners
And last and least (as I recognise it in myself) - the worst case sits in front of the machine with
different levels of knowledge - put a roadmap in your head, no chaos - sometimes it's good to
be suitable for multitasking. The GTX880M ROM is in experimental status, so everything can be
happen with different actions - don't trust your data to video card together with unofficial macOS !
The first post describes what you have to do in order to be able to adjust brightness at all (not possible with all cards). Can I use this method for my 21,5" Mid 2010 iMac? Or it´s just exclusively for 27" models?
I also have the same problem with a k4100m.Hi guys,
I've trawled through this thread and I still can't find a definitive answer so I thought I'd ask. Sorry if it's already been answered!
I have successfully flashed a 780m using the USB Linux method (thanks xanderon!) using the 780 BR2 rom (thanks nikey22!), however I can't seem to get the internal display working? I have screen shared and I have attached some images below.
I have tried my old 6970m and every works as it should using that.
Any help would be appreciated!

Since I have three such K4100M cards running one must assume it is your card what causes the trouble.I also have the same problem with a k4100m.
With internal LCD it wont boot...
Still didn't get a solution...
I Have quite the same config as yours and no troubles at allCurious if anyone else has this happen while watching youtube videos or on websites with images.
I work a lot with adobe and websites and I don't notice this on the adobe programs however, when the finished product is uploaded or i watch youtube videos this appears.
Is this normal with Catalina or did I miss a kext or something?

welcome to the happy clubJust upgraded my iMac 21.5 2010 from i3 to i5 and a k2100M 2GB successfully.
I immediately did so! from 6970 is not an option at all)) any other information? for example, how to deal with the buffer? by the way, I noticed that on Catalina there are fewer glitches, and on high Sierra the image is a little worse and this is very noticeable, on Windows 10 I still did not understand the problem with the display ((by the way, respect to you!!!!! you're the best!!!!Just FYI for those of you with a GTX880M.
When I purchased the card, I noticed that the card X-bracket has four rivets at the corners that protrude upwards from the GPU-die face:

If you look on Ebay, you will see many examples of this kind of X-bracket arrangement for the GTX880M, some even on GTX780M cards. This is just my personal experience with it.
During the initial stages of testing my rom I discovered that the Kepler GPUBoost was always kicking in and throttling down the TDP to 'base clock' despite even a small load. GPUBoost will increase clock speeds in steps until the predefined power target is reached, which in our cases is always around 100watts no matter what. Valley score screens were choppy and I was getting random shutdowns. I thought I had a bad card.
One week of frustration later, I discovered that the rivets were keeping the GPU-die surface from contacting properly the heatsink surface. I removed the rivets and used M 2.5mm and length 8mm screws to secure the X-bracket to the heatsink:

GPUBoost now ramps up/down dynamically based on load and gives full boost up to 100Watts when demanded.
Insanely great!
You can use the Regular Nvidia Driver's (or the version I screen shot) and then follow the Reg-edit guide for Fixing Backlight control in Windows.hi, thank you for all your efforts
would i need a modified driver for the gtx880m card once installed on imac 27 "mid 2011 to make it work under windows (bootcamp), or just download and install the original driver from from the nvidia site
Managed to get it working - thank you.Check the doc I made for the Catalina loader and enter the commands I described there manually and complete in a terminal: mount, chmod, chown, kextcache, kcditto and finally reboot. You cannot just delete files from the /S/L/E and hope alle the traces are gone then.
You need only this eight files on disk. Whatevergreen and Lilu and BacklightFixup are better maintained with the Catalina Loader.
Yes, go back to the first post and read about the common problems...welcome to the club!In an attempt to reinstall Catalina with the dosdude installer I have the following issue. I can only get a visual when resetting the NVram, or startup using the option key for the bootloader and choose the setup or OS to start.
I red that with the 2010 model you shouldn't auto patch. so i created a new installmedium. But then i have no wifi, and no visual unless i reset the nvram or use the bootloader.
It's regarding my 2010 imac 20.5.
looking for clues.
then what is your boot rom version?
PRAM done?
Do i have to repeat again and again?
I also have the same problem with a k4100m.
With internal LCD it wont boot...
Still didn't get a solution...
No, it still just you. The other two systems do not boot with the internal LCD connected, your system does boot and cannot recognize the non working card. The only thing in common is all systems do not work.Nice to know it's not just me!
I Have quite the same config as yours and no troubles at all

I am still sure your card is simply dead, while the others may face an (additional) unknown problem. You did not get a single live sign from your card.
Hi! Thank you for respondingYou can use the Regular Nvidia Driver's (or the version I screen shot) and then follow the Reg-edit guide for Fixing Backlight control in Windows.
Have you tried to search this thread yourself to get answers? Hint: OpenCore...Hi! Thank you for responding
i can't find the screen shot for nvidia driver,
i have another problem if you can help me with this too, i have no sound on windows, i tried reinstalling the drivers with no success knowing i used usb for installing windows 10
Yes, I found this part: "All is working as intended if you can hold the "Option" key at startup and get a boot picker."Yes, go back to the first post and read about the common problems...welcome to the club!
You have to read the @dosdude1 part, too.
EDIT: 8/16/20 NEW AGC kexts have been added to change "board-id" to "board-ix" in the AppleGraphicsDevicePolicy binary. This has the same affect as "agdpmod=pikera" from Whatevergreen, this upload is for AMD users.
I'm uploading a patched AppleGrapahicsControl.kext that is now necessary as of 10.15.4, the symptoms after this update are a blank screen but system sounds are heard when holding down the Escape key, as well a loss of any Displayport output. The cause of this is Apple Clamping down on 3rd party kexts from loading, this mainly affects hackintosh users, but affects us as our iMacs are no longer a supported platform.
What does this patched AppleGraphicsControl.kext do to allow 2009-2011 iMacs to properly boot? We now need our board ID's to be added to the AppleGraphicsDevicePolicy.kext within AppleGraphicsControl.kext, this allows the kext to properly load on boot, before this wasn't necessarily needed. I have so far all known 5 board ID's that are supported on our thread.

Thanks to @Ausdauersportler for the helping/testing for this kext.
To install this kext unlock your System partition using Hackintool, drag the kext on-top of the kext utility icon let it install/timeout with an error. Open terminal and enter "sudo reboot" skipping this step may leave your iMac hanging at the desktop (A Catalina issue)
How to install:
When booting you need to Hold Alt/Option to bring up the AppleBootPicker, then select the Catalina partition. Since the iMac's Screen is on when using AppleBootPicker the Macs screen will remain on the entire boot process allowing you to log in and then proceed to install the Patched AppleGraphicsControl Kext.
I'm adding 10.14.6 2020-003 here as well as 10.13.6 2020-003. The original file named Simply "AppleGraphicsControl.kext.zip" is still for Mac OS Catalina 10.15.4+
