I do not understand your question!

Every card flashed here on the thread comes with a BIOS chip soldered on the card and it will be flashed with the chip on card.

Why do you think you have to flash the (new) chip before soldering?
I received a K5100M with bios chip Pm25LD010 I must solder the bios chip Pm25LD020. I must flash the chip before soldering it on the GPU? or can I solder the chip and then flash it with the iMac with nvflash? peace

I ask back:

WHY would you flash the BIOS chip in advance before soldering WHEN everybody else cannot do this and has to flash the BIOS on card?

This is the error message I get when I'm using my new gtx 780m 4gb in my iMac 2011 27"
I'm not good at translating this kind of thing, but it would help me so much if some one here can identify the issue I have when I'm using software/games ( it don't happen when I watch 4k 60fps videos )

thank you :)

I runs high Sierra + I also add ram to the stock ones

** NVIDIA Quadro K4100M Mac Edition ROM **
Genuine Native Boot Screen & Brightness Control

View attachment 942198

After much testing and research, I've put together a ROM for the NVIDIA Quadro K4100M which will allow:
  • Genuine native brightness control
  • Genuine ‘gray’ early-boot screen
  • Genuine macOS bootloader compliance

Requirements:
iMac12,2 (27-inch Mid 2011) Mac-942B59F58194171B (Tested machine)
BootROM: 87.0.0.0. Please use High Sierra to update your BootROM to latest version.

GPU Variant: N15E-Q3-A2
Dell K4100M vbios: 80.04.E8.00.1D
HP K4100M vbios: 80.04.E8.00.22

This ROM does not require a 3rd party bootloader like OpenCore.
This is an alternative ROM and mainly for the audience that just want a “drop-in” answer to upgrading their video card on the iMac 2011. I appreciate the ongoing ROM testing done by @Ausdauersportler, @highvoltage12v. With their efforts we can expand its utility across multiple macOS versions and peripherals.

Brightness Control Stepping Modifcation:
-Turn computer on, hold down Command(⌘)-R
-Choose Utilities > Terminal
-Enter:csrutil disable
-MacOS Catalina: requires you to make root writeable: sudo mount -uw /
-Reboot
-Download and open 'Kext Utility v2.6.6'

-Navigate to S/L/E (System/Library/Extensions)
-Copy "AppleBacklight.kext" to Desktop
-Edit: AppleBacklight.kext/Contents/Info.plist
-Scroll down to: IOKitPersonalities > AppleIntelPanelA > ApplePanels
-There you find several Apple LCD profiles.
-For the iMac 2011 27" machine locate:
Code:
<key>F10Ta007</key>
<data>
ABEABgALABQAHAAnADMAPwBOAFwAZwBzAIEAkQClAL8A2wD/
</data>

-Change the <data> section to:
ABEAAgA3AF8AigCzAOsBJAFnAakB1AIJAlQCogL4A00DlgRpBGk=

-Drag your modded kext into Kext Utility, allow it correct permissions
-Applebacklight.kext.bak folder will be created
-Reboot

The above data pattern will allow for a wider span of steppings for the brightness control and utilizes more of the capacity of the HD3000. If you have a different machine, your panel ID can be found by going to System Preferences > Displays > Color > Open Profile > mmod

This rom does not require the use of an external EDID parser or a separate graphics core-console stack module, but I’ve left them in there for now. It uses a built in EDID_override_Protocol, a UGA_protocol and GOP_protocol. The rom is based on a TianoCore EDK2 build which houses its own generic video driver. During bootup, the efiROM is responsible for video rendering before the control is seamlessly transferred off to a different handle, the macOS video drivers. This is known as pre-boot configuration.

Caveats post-install/Bugs:
-16bit resolution glitch of UGA_DRAW_PROTOCOL - temporary solution: activate a sleep cycle and return, this should now clear the issue.

warning: as stated previously these cards are based on a WSON flash package and therefore are much more difficult to recover from a bad flash. Please take precautions and verify flashing.

In the words of Steve Jobs, “this is insanely great!

Hi Guys,

I have followed this closely but unfortunately cannot get the Kext Utility to finish its thing, It says it has updated AppleBacklight.kext with the modified one ( an I can confirm when I reboot it is the modified one in the System/Extension location, but the brightness is still not as it should be.

Just to be 100% clear on my steps.

1) OS recovery boot (Sierra boot disk)
2) csrutil disable in terminal
3) Reboot
4) Boot Catalina and in terminal sudo mount -uw /
4) edit the AppleBacklight.kext file and then drop it into Kext Utility.

I know that the instructions say to run sudo mount -uw / right after csrutil disable (but I am using a Sierra boot usb) which doesn't recognise sudo (it does work without sudo and I have tried it but its the same outcome.)

Please let me have your guidance.

I ask back:

WHY would you flash the BIOS chip in advance before soldering WHEN everybody else cannot do this and has to flash the BIOS on card?
For anyone new to this thread Ausdauersportler is an incredible human specimen! Helped supply me with a new card from overseas and I guarantee you would help me more if I bothered him :) Can't say enough words of praise for this man! (My greetings Doctor!)

Hi guys awesome content youve brought up here. Thank you! I have a question regarding the wx 4130 -> Rx460/560. Does changing the name means that i actually work with a rx460/560 performance wise (games) or is it just the identification?
Is their any picture gallery wich versions work?

As for CPUs: Is it possible to fit the i7 2600k and overclock via windows? I did this nearly ten years ago witht the famous 2500k in BIOS.
Another mind experiment: If i install a 2600k into an Imac 2011 27" and add a 870m/wx4170: Does the internal Intel Hd3000 (2600K) still operates and takes on the easy tasks of browsing a.s.o.

Also I would like to have your opinion about deleting the ODD for thermal reasons. Ive read that by doing this one would decline the effiency of cooling the gpu whereas in my opinion it would be benefitial. I would even like to reposition the fan on th lower right like 10cm upwards to be closer to the heatsink of the gpu....???

Thanks a lot!
Best wishes!

To both of you:

Please check the first post of this thread, search the OpenCore section and than search the post containing all recent OpenCore packages. The latest upload is only a few hours old.

The documentation of this thread is the first post and the thread itself, not some outdated YouTube videos...
@Ausdauersportler and @peekpt,
Thanks for your support, I followed the instructions in the OpenCore section, used the latest packages, the one that worked best with my iMac is 0.6.0, the only problem that remains is the dimmed screen brightness, after boot it's quite dark and the upper limit of my brightness control seems to be not higher than medium, so I cannot further dial-up the display brightness to work on a sunny day, is there a fix for this issue? If I use my iMac without the OpenCore patch my display is super bright but I cannot get it to that level under OpenCore.

I think he only corrected it on the last one, but I'm curious why 0.6.0 works better?

Please move on to 0.6.6. Why you are believing 0.6.0 is the best version? Did you check the other more recent versions?

Yes I did and brightness control didn't work using '0.6.6-release'.
Fastest solution would have been reading the FAQ on the post where you found the all the releases.
You can also fetch the AppleBacklightFixup from the latest 0.6.6 and replace it on 0.6.0.
Finally you can find the differences in the NVIDIA config.plist on 0.6.0 and 0.6.6 to explain why the K1100M brightness control got lost.

Get help and help others...

The coils are replacements. The BIOS chip has been replaced, too. Nevertheless it could by fine.

Did you buy a new card (8 years old)? Possibly not!
Did you read the warning on post #1 one about such ancient cards?

It’s definitely not a brand new one , but i did read the reviews about the sellers and all are positives ...
Also do you think that with this new coils I still need to mod the heat sink ( I had the 3 pipe and amd 6970 ) ??

Only you can answer that question: Put the card without any K5 pro or other paste flat on the sink. If the coils touch the upper part of the sink and the card cannot lay in parallel to both axis than you need grinding out the two parts. Most importantly this has been described on the first post. The GPU itself has to be into complete contact with the copper part of the sink. Otherwise you are just burning down the house (card).

Do you trust more in my eyes a million miles away (btw: Who knows this great song?) than in your own?

Firstly thank you very much for all the help that you do , I am just a teenager who bought a cheap used iMac with my few euros from summer work hoping that this machine could able me to record guitar for my band , after it died 2 weeks after using it this forums gave me enough courage to try to open and give this machine a new life with this eBay GPU i asked for Christmas , I am just a newbie to this and I am sorry if my question seems stupid 😭

and yes I don’t think the heat sink need mod here . BUT can you check the picture I took and confirm that the welding on the coils are set up correctly ?

Firstly thank you very much for all the help that you do , I am just a teenager who bought a cheap used iMac with my few euros from summer work hoping that this machine could able me to record guitar for my band , after it died 2 weeks after using it this forums gave me enough courage to try to open and give this machine a new life with this eBay GPU i asked for Christmas , I am just a newbie to this and I am sorry if my question seems stupid 😭

A coil is a really simple component needing only two connections (like a simple resistor) and the right one looks broken or disconnected as somebody tried to push the coil down to get it installed on the iMac 6970 heat sink.

It is not likely that the coil is broken, but you need to reconnect it. You may find some of your school friends being able to move the coil slightly up solder it again. It is no rocket science if you use a small fitting solder iron not melting your card away.

If you have a chance to replace the card, try this.

Talking about music: Check "A million miles away", possibly not your style and nor your music, but performed by one of the greatest great guitar players of the last century, vastly underrated.

Euro zone: Where exactly?

EDIT:
Normally there is a coil/inductor of type R22 as on this picture showing a new K4100M (which is a close relative of the 780M using the same GPU, board, memory...)

Those coils look a little golden brown. I like my toast like that but not my computer components! If you are going to solder components, buy new coils that are the right type. Can't be more than a few cents each.

Hello

I am french, and i don't speak very well this language 😁

I hope everyone can understand me 🤓

I swap my GC on Imac 27 mid 2011 with a K4100M, and it's ok for me

The Imac run very well, and, at this moment, i don't have any problems !

Next step is install catalina on a new SSD

Thanks a lot to the author of this thread

Have a nice day
