Okay then, I'll stick to the WX4130M, also, does anyone know if sleep will work on the WX4130M? Since it doesn't work on Big Sur and Monterey because the iGPU is disabled via opencore on the Nvidia GPU.
I have never had problems with sleep (with default OCLP config), either with the Nvidia cards (K610M, K1100M, K3100M), or with AMD WX41x0 cards. (I currently have a WX4130 in an iMac11,2. It sleeps and wakes as expected...)

So, i try to find a WX4130... now i've found a K4100M with 4gb at 130€.. not too expensive.. i don't want to spend more. Probably next weekend i prepare much coffee.. i will need it!

@
Delete this FAT partition (Who told you to create one??) and install OpenCore to your internal SSD/HDD EFI partition discovered by OCLP in the #2 install dialog.

Honestly I am curious what exceptional new idea you are going to post next time.
I finally sorted it :) It took me far too long but it was a good learning curve and its all working great now. Thank you for your help and the amazing thread here with everything you need to know!

Idk what's the problem on mine, someone here suggested that since the iGPU is disabled sleep won't work on big sur or newer

Again, first post, known issues with some cards. We assume SMBUS collisions to be the root cause and I wrote some hours ago that there is no solution. We have to assume there are different variants of one card type , i.e. of the K3000M. Some work perfectly, some fail to sleep.

For an unknown reason all AMD GCN cards fail to sleep on Mid 2011 systems. But surely it is not the disabled iGPU which causes this. I made sure the correct extension are injected using OCLP with Big Sur and Monterey with NVIDIA and AMD cards. If this ridiculous idea would be true no upgraded system would be able to sleep.

Just an update. After I fixed the L5500 by solder it back by solder wire, and upgrade it to 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7.
Then I have use Macs Fan control, set the fan to
ODD - Auto
HDD - 2200
CPU - Auto

This 2 day when I shut down the computer, it's will show kernel report, and restart, then I have to click shutdown again only it can go fully shutdown.

Anyone have any idea why this happen? Or can teach me how to check the Kernel report to find out the error come from where?

Hey guys! I have both iMac 2011 k4100m and MacBook Air 2020 M1. Is it way to use my iMac as external monitor for newer M1 Mac? I've tried thunderbolt cable + apple original thunderbolt2/3 adapter and nothing is happened when I pressed "cmd + f2". High Sierra and Big Sur on iMac has been tested for it. Thanks for advice!

According this this thread and some other youtube videos the M1 will not work with 2011+ iMacs using a thunderbolt port.

Recently @protocold posted how to use TDM even with Monterey on Late 2009 and Mid 2011 iMacs using a miniDP cable (these are different from a thunderbolt 2 cable). I can confirm this finding using a MacBook5,2 and an iMac11,3 Mid 2011 running Monterey.

Basically all has already posted to the FAQ, Q16.

Depends on the card, of course an K4100M will perform better than a WX4130, but generally AMD cards have better support on mac due to them being used in the latest macs.

Okay then, I'll stick to the WX4130M, also, does anyone know if sleep will work on the WX4130M? Since it doesn't work on Big Sur and Monterey because the iGPU is disabled via opencore on the Nvidia GPU.
Excuse me if i insist, but the K4100M GPU is in my hand in 2 days.. it's more comfortable..so my question above is, what kind of mod i have made in the hetasink pipe for a K4100M GPU ? Actually i have a heatsink Pipe for an Radeon HD 6970 1gb.. imac 27 mid 2011. Because if it's an easy mod i proceed but if it's difficult i order a wx4130 on Ebay and wait some weeks..

I would mean.. which is the video card with the simplest and most stable procedure?
Please check the first post about heat sink mods, the complete procedure, and find out yourself what may the best solution having your own abilities, budget and time to tinker in mind.

The most simple way: Replace it with an old ATI card!

I asked for courage..!
when you want to do these upgrades then you don't wait any longer .. buy on ali .. the card will arrive in 20/30 days .. too late!:D
I am almost convinced to buy the K4100M if i have 3 pipe heatsink, tonight i open my imac and take a photo then post here!

If your original card was a 6970 then you have a 3 pipe heatsink.

You are good to go. Once your iMac can chime and boot and activate the external display, it means your GPU is working. The name displayed could vary by the vBIOS used that may change the card's identity with no effect on performance.

With the flashed GOP vBIOS, the logon screen would show itself only late in the boot process when the OS graphic drivers are loaded. Thus, it is always good to prepare an OCLP Loader SD card for the initial booting which will bring up the OCLP BootPicker for you to choose the macOS in your internal SSD/HD. But if you still have a functional internal DVD connected, burning a OCLP Loader CD/DVD as suggested by Ausdauersportler will ease you lots of trouble. Just press the C key on restart to boot from the OCLP Loader CD/DVD which will then give you the OCLP BootPicker. That could be a life-saving tool for trouble-shooting. Afterwards, you can make a OCLP Loader SD card or install the OCLP onto your macOS volume to always enable the OCLP BootPicker. That's the current limitation of the GOP vBIOS of the AMD GPUs without a native Apple BootPicker.
Guys, you've been hugely helpful. As Ausdauersportler suggested, after I read the Opencore post on first page, it became much more clear. I created an OCLP loader CD, which worked great. I installed Monterey, and the internal monitor now works fine. I'm planning to post a full review of the process.

Two questions for the experts:

1. After installing Monterey, I rebooted with the loader CD and attempted to hold down C so that I could select the EFI as my default boot (as per around 17:25 of the video at bottom of this message). My problem is that I can't seem to use my mouse or keyboard to select the EFI. Any ideas what's going on?

2. Now that I've upgraded to Monterey, do I need to create an updated OCLP loader CD, or will the one I create in High Sierra work?

Is it wired or wireless? Bluetooth? Are they USB 1 or USB 2? Are they connected to built-in USB ports of the Mac or to a display?

When I swap my old 4850 HD with a WX4150 and I install a driver Board to make the internal screen a external one, do I still have my mini dp port at the back if the Mac ? Or where do I get the signal for the driver board from? It would be nice to still keep my second screen working.

According to Apple there is no such iMac Early 2009 with an i870 as mentioned in your signature, it must be the normal Late 2009. The sockets of the Core2Duo (C2D) and i870 are simply different.

So I would expect you will get the WX4150 working without any additional driver board, just replace the GPU have a 2nd external display ready to get a picture using High Sierra (which is still broken with AMD GOP).

About the C2D Late 2009: Recently there was a post on Discord from a user claiming to have a GTX770 installed. So it might be possible to get even the 27 C2D working without this driver board trick.

The 24 Mid/Early 2009 and 21.5 Late 2009 C2D system use LVDS (not eDP as all other later iMacs) with the internal LCD and would need either a different vBIOS or the driver board mod. The driver board would be connected to the external display port - and to answer your question finally - in this case the external port would be gone.

It is not about mouse and keyboard, it is simply because your GPU does not offer an EFI boot screen - you cannot press alt on boot and select the OC EFI - OC has to be booted automatically to provide the OC (emulated) boot screen. This emulated boot picker allows you to pick from different macOS and Windows boot options. And within this OC boot picker mouse and keyboard will work.
2. Now that I've upgraded to Monterey, do I need to create an updated OCLP loader CD, or will the one I create in High Sierra work?
Just write OC using OCLP to your internal SSD and keep the CD in case the internal EFI will not work. With upcoming Monterery versions (12.1 or later) there might be the need to update the internal EFI and create a new CD with the same OC new version - just read the release notes of the next upcoming OCLP versions.

So I’d like to buy a wx4130 and have it flashed by the agreeable seller but I feel I don’t have time to read all the important info before I miss out on the auction. Would you mind terribly posting a link to what I need to forward to the seller? Thank you Mac angels 👼
Yes, I’m sucking up! Hahaha

I don't think you need to forward that to the seller. Those sellers who are not interested in Mac won't read it. Those selling to Mac users would have been a frequent visitor to this forum to pick up the latest info and vBIOS.

If you don't have the time to read all the important information on this GPU upgrade, my advice for you is not to do it.
Flashing the vBIOS to a functioning card is probably one of the easier part. Dissembling your iMac, remounting the heatsink, testing its full function are the necessary evil that demands some technical skill. Reading the 1st post in detail again & again is a pre-requisite. No shortcut unless you can find or pay someone to do it. All the important steps are listed in post 1 under the Plan of the Complete Hardware Upgrade Process. 😊

Thanks for the advice but just look at it this way… Have you ever had your car break down and you didn’t know how to make the necessary repairs? Have you ever have a craving for a dish that you really like but don’t know how to cook? Just ask someone who knows, right? I’m sure they won’t hear them tell you ‘if you can fix your own car maybe it’s just not for you to own it.’ Or ‘maybe you just weren’t meant to have your favourite dish…’
In this case I’m only asking for the latest version of the vBIOS to avoid making a terrible mistake. I’m not very knowledgeable in this field so I’m just asking for a little help from the people who seem to be experts. After learning what I can I will help anyone I come across along the way and beyond if I can.
After 4 years of hoping and waiting for something good to come along and get my gorgeous iMac up and running again, I just need some help to give it another life.
I do realize that some of you guys here help people like myself all the time and maybe you’re getting tired of it. That’s fine but I do think there’s a need to tell people “maybe it’s not for you”. Help or don’t help, it’s your prerogative.
I spoke with the seller and he agreed to reserve a card for me until I get this sorted out. I feel a little less stressed now after paying for the card.
Thanks for taking the time to read.

Just plain curiosity, have you read post #1 to this part (screen capture below)?
ROM1 is the latest ROM. The link is just there under your nose.

Normally we don't provide pre-purchase consulting in the public here, as each of us has his own bias in card selection. You will have to read post#1, including the performance table and make the decision yourself.

Funny enough, this thread has impacted the card sellers in China, too. They have had to refund so many cards that now they have put tripple lines in red: "This card is not for iMac, please do not buy this card to install on your iMac bla bla bla."

Other sellers asked for the laptop model of the buyer, and when knowing that I was intended to use it on an iMac, he tried to reject the order. I have had to assure him that I would not complain him or return the card if it wouldn't work on my iMac.
