hello everyone) Maybe someone knows how to include in opencore the automatic reset of Nvram when it is turned on and is it even possible to do this?)

hey everyone which is the best rom for k1000m to use with oclp and bigsure installation. at moment i flashesd the one from nick .

now i have problem with oclp i dont know is this a problem of GPU or OLCP

after pressing install bigsure after done the stick with olcp, the screen with Apple and statuebar is shown and at round about 1/4 the installation hung up !

i dont know what i can do at moment ! some one has solution or knows the problem ?

thanks

You can review your OCLP process. Better re-read the OCLP guide, too.
Your symptom shows some abnormalities with the OS loading drivers for the GPU.

now it works with the rom of nikey22 ... but now task above is black only problem with big sure 11.7.2 better install old one ? e.g.11.5.2 or 11.6.X or better use K1100M or 2100M ???

Hi all, I got a GTX 980m for free and would like to install it on an iMac 2010 or 2011. I searched though this thread (which was a enormous help in upgrading 8 iMacs so far) but I was not able to find a conclusive recipe for this endeavour. The closest was this contribution by mhafeez from 2017(!).
Did you get it to work?

cheers.
Hi all,
has nobody any newer experience with the GTX 980? I really would like to try it but I don't know where to start. No vBIOS?

Any comment is appreciated.
Thanx

Off topic here, but there is another thread discussing similar cards! Sure you can find it, if you spend some time in checking out the first post here.

On the first post we had for most of the time this statement, thought recently we could delete it:

Please do not harass the BIOS developers to go faster, release a particular BIOS, etc. Please do not clog up the thread with useless posts asking if your specific card will get a new BIOS. It takes several months of reverse engineering and testing before getting a new BIOS working.

hello everyone! a terrible thing happened, the card overheated, since the max fan control program does not show the temperature of the video chip, tell me how to open access to the temperature?

the video card overheated in front of my eyes, there was interference and then it was thrown out on the driver, after which the computer did not boot, I warmed up the video card with an iron and it seems to be working now, but the risk that it will turn off at any moment is great...

and please tell me if it will work adequately if you install the macOS 12.0 Monterey system now I use Big sur 11 6 6

One of my favorites: Check this post and use the DVD temp sensor to control the fans.

It does not matter if YOU can see the GPU temp with some unimportant tools on the desktop.

Macs Fan Control can be used to control the ODD fan while being logged in, BUT YOU HAVE TO ENABLE IT!

Apples SMC does still work, but it starts ramping up the fans at 80C on the heat sink, a little bit late for some old cards.

About Big Sur and Monterey (patching) support check the two threads. There a still some bugs when patching Kepler support into Monterey and I cannot promise it will ever been resolved.

You can go to the Maxwell/Pascal cards thread, read first post to see current limitations of Maxwell cards on macOs and, if you want to contribute testing it, we may be able to help. Have in mind some skills/experience are needed for such testing.

AMD FirePro S7100X Windows 10

Hello everyone, I'm back from a small break and catching up on my messages. I wanted to review some discoveries to make this card more compatible with bootcamp and expand our knowledge on its inner workings.

Firstly, you cannot arbitrarily assign any device ID (DEVID) to the MMX video card. One solution that AMD uses for setting a DEVID is to use six bits of straps and 10 bits of fuses to set the 16-bit DEVID. Fuses are an internal component of the GPU die and can pull either high or low to simulate a 1 or 0 to set a part of the DEVID. This is hard-coded during manufacturing and is unalterable.

The AMD vbios however contains a header entry. I’ve located the section of code that allows for software DEVID identification, but again its implementation will be limited by the hardware fuses that are already activated in the GPU die. This is somewhat alterable and we will take advantage of that next.

For these cards to be compatible with both macOS and Windows 10, a new DEVID needs to be chosen. The one that came with the stock card 6929, unfortunately is not recognized by macOS. Let's investigate:
dke30yVYh3UyKOqL5OtPRQ37ZHGmCYvKFVPyh2pgNy-6uZDjcFG6XWjZ0nrObnpKRLUD57MxGzW3JmndOUVjxBABUz0-BeIjRtQcZTAupgPTnrDJ_-3aqnz3mM41zzWmGxQN1qCkG3D-ERW-YuPhMCMF4vaenE8xiQTy2iFcYtLalgE9ukxnkcDyu83ThA

In macOS, the AMD9000Controller kext is what initializes the Tonga Adapter in the S7100X. Variations of acceptable IDs are listed within its IOPCIMatch entries above.

After some experimenting, from my testing anyways, I decided to use 0x6939. Patching the vbios was simple and the video card accepted 0x6939 as a native DEVID without internal fuse conflict. There may indeed be others.

If we want this to work in the Windows environment, the revision ID (REV_) of the GPU needs to be altered as well! I’ve also located the region in the vbios where the revision ID is encoded (see below). A clue to which REV ID to set comes from the AMD drivers themselves, Let’s interrogate them. Looking in the driver file, we come across this section:

[ATI.Mfg.NTamd64.10.0...16299]
"%AMD6939.1%" = ati2mtag_Tonga, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_6939&REV_00
"%AMD6939.2%" = ati2mtag_Tonga, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_6939&REV_F0
"%AMD6939.3%" = ati2mtag_Tonga, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_6939&REV_F1

Here we can see that 3 things needs to be correctly set:
Vendor ID (VEN_) : 1002
Device ID (DEV_) : 6939
Revision, (REV_) : 00/F0/F1

The areas to patch in the header are below:
View attachment 2115372
Bookmark 1 - highlights the 3 byte code used to set the Device ID (DEV_)
Bookmark 2 - highlights the Revision code (REV_) that needs to be set correctly to one of the 3 options above.

Therefore in summary, a stock 0x6929 REV 01 FirePro S7100X video card (not recognized by macOS), can be altered to appear as a 0x6939 REV 00 FirePro S7100X. It now has the advantage of being completely recognized by the macOS accelerators and should be identified with full acceleration by the Windows 10 Adrenalin drivers:

Bingo!, no more "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter". You will noticed that Windows 10 will interpret the video card as a “Radeon R9 200 Series”. This is okay, it is only cosmetic. Windows 10 uses Driver Signatures for its OEM drivers and will not allow manipulation of them, nor will the AMD drivers. They compare any alterations in the .inf files to a hash in the catalog file and will reject tampering.

The .rom file below has all the necessary patches applied.
Furthermore, it has been boosted to 750Mhz for GPU clock and 1300Mhz for Memory. I can show you in a different post how to manipulate these entries in the powerplay module. It probably can tolerate a lot higher as it is a server card.

If i have working s7100 on old rom,can i edit vbios or flash it with new rom directly on my mac(without using clip)?
sorry for the question,i’m newbie
Thank you

I had this working for years but stupidly ran sudo nvram boot-args= and now my display isn’t working. Anyone got any ideas?

@Ausdauersportler, hi!
i'm curious about your prefs on cards, it seems you stick with AMD only, how come?
the Nvidia seems to deliver better output as per the data on page1.

... sounds that nobody should have another mind ;) but don't ignore
an easy installation and lifetime extension of A1311 and A1312 iMac !

Today after more than 10 years this model is going from State-of-the-Art
Computer to an Underdog model. We have macOS, but also we can run
WIN or Ubuntu with Twister UI 😄 on A1311 / A1312.

Then I think to switch from Kepler to Maxwell or Pascal... in a 2011 iMac !

Hi

I have update via OCLP with non metal card and want to install gtx 880 but i cant get the screen to boot but i can hear machine is working, previously i used the Nvidia patcher after turning of SIP on highera that work to get the screen working on gtx 880 but now im on OCLP it doesnt work only the old radeon 5750 works.

Is there a way to get the screen to boot through OCLP or will i Need to format the drive and do a fresh install of high S ?

Thank you

Hello. iMac 21 2011 when updating Mac OS, the computer rebooted and when turned on, it began to emit signals: 3 short, 3 long, 3 short and starts to reboot, and then everything starts over again. After searching the Internet, I realized that this is an SOS signal - damage to the memory of the EFI firmware. Can you dump the firmware ? Will flashing with a programmer help ?

What if I put WX4150 ( Dell Card ) into my mid 2011 iMac 21.5”. Will it work? Or do I have to modify something?

Everything regarding your question is answered in the first post of this thread. Please study the information provided there before asking. In case you don't understand the information you probably need someone else doing this job for you.

Hi everyone,

I have a Mac mid 2011 27". Its GPU was damaged and someone just fixed it by putting a "Quadro K1100M by Nick[D]vB 2048 MB", so far I can use my mac almost as usual. But it does not have brightness control (making it difficult to work for long hours because my eyes hurt T_T) and also I've noticed that the games that I played before now run on low fps when theoretically they should run with better graphics... right? Because the new GPU is better, right? So... I was reading almost everything I could find in this mega thread (especially the first post) and I decided to try flash vbios following the instructions from xanderon and the_croupier. I think I did everything well, but there is no change in brightness control... I'm not sure if I did something wrong, or I'm missing a step..? Could someone help me please?

PS: English is not my first language, hehe.

Post 1 -> Working NVIDIA Graphics Cards -> NVIDIA Kepler GPU (2013-2014) -> Known issues or problems -> No. 10.

@B S Magnet The answer above is the one that I (and, I presume, many of more senior developers of solutions in this iMac GPU upgrade thread) do not like giving. It's spoon-feeding. The answer is there in the first post for anyone willing to look for it. If it is not in the first post, the most likely answer is: 'We don't know...'

hello) please tell me, after reading the topic, I could not understand whether there is a fix for the wx3200 4gb video card in the opencore legacy patcher) if you apply this patch, will the already flashed video card work?) I ordered a WX3200 4gb on Aliexpress and it is already flashed for Imac)

That option is quite irritating in my opinion - but I'd recommend to just follow the recommendation "Do not change if unfamiliar", which means leaving it at the setting "None" meaning auto detection effectively.
In the text output of the OpenCore build process you'll probably see some lines which indicate that your AMD card has been recognized correctly.
