If the Mac Mini gets updated soon that won't be that good a bargain. I'd be inclined to continue to wait and see if the Mac Mini gets refreshed soon.

This waiting is killing me - I have to order 6 Mac Minis and 2 Mac Pros for work soon and I just know the moment I get them in, I'll find out new Macs are coming out. I wish there was even a hint, a supply chain leak, something, so I could go to my boss and say "Hey, look at this, we should wait a couple weeks".

I would go ahead and order the Mac Pro's, unfortunately i believe there will be another 6 months of waiting to do for those. Maybe you can delay the order of the minis if your boss sees that the pros are on the way? It would definitely be awful to order so many mini's which will be blown away by sandy bridge in a matter of weeks (id like to think at least):)

add me to "waiting for mac mini refresh"...

seriously this is way over due.

I'm seriously so sick of waiting this is rediculous. No rumors, nothing!!! I'm so sick of coming to this site hoping for some type of rumor regarding the mac mini refresh instead you keep running into headlines for the iphone 5 and how well the ipad 2 is selling lol. Am I the only person who doesnt care? The iphone 5 in june. No wait september no wait june. Lmao like wow terrible. Pardon my frustration just kinda annoyed.

Rumors come when they come. No one can force a rumor. At any rate, it's no surprise that rumors about iPhones are more popular as there is much greater demand for them than for minis.

I hear you. Just desperately waiting to update, might just pick up the 2010 model and throw an ssd in it and count my losses.

I think apple is a catch 22 in that respect. They have their diehard following that really seem to want a mysterious company to release products with no warning as if manna from heaven.

But really most people just want to plan. I'd just as well build a small form factor Sandy Bridge windows 7 box with a mini ITX. All I'm waiting on is whether or not the mini's refresh seems like it will be powerful enough for my needs. If not, I'm pulling the trigger on windows 7. But this wait kinda sucks as I need a replacement pretty soon. I really want a mac, but they are making it difficult to do business with them! Maybe I can build my SB system so that I can make it a hackintosh later :)

I'm not completely convinced that it's going to be a huge upgrade. We know that the new HD2000/3000 isn't a HUGE boost from the 320m in many cases (some it's not at all). So let's say the mini comes out, which I think it will, with an i3 with 4gb of ram and a 7200 rpm drive, the boost will be noticeable but not epic. I will be totally shocked if we see the option for an i5 and a SSD for under $1000.

Well I was thinking the same thing. Probably cost 500$ to upgrade my current rig with sandy bridge but with so little time that I have and the lack of comparable mini itx cases to the mac mini it would just make more sense to make a micro atx or full blown atx rig. The thought of turning it into a hackintosh makes my head spin due to the amount of work is required so that wont happen for me anyways.

It can be frustrating, especially when we are on the cusp of such a significant upgrade. iMacs, MacBooks and Mac Pros are all desperate now as well.

Exactly. Especially the mac mini. 700$ for a core 2 duo makes me kinda sick and nauseous. Lol

Seriously, I don't buy people who think the GPU lose is not worth it. Have they seen the Geekbench scores?

Now I just have to decided if I'm selling my old Mini or turning it into a Windows/Linux machine.(which if I did, I'd upgrade the CPU and maybe replace the SuperDrive with an HDD or SSD)

Have you seen the geekbench scores for the MBP with Sandy Bridge? Even if we get the 2.3Ghz i5, we're still looking a double in score. Yes, that doesn't mean everything, but its a good show of rare CPU power, and Sandy Bridge has that, even if we take a hit on the GPU.

But if you're more focused on the GPU and are happy with the C2D, yea, why not grab one? My MBA is plenty fast for the vast majority of things....thanks SSD!

Yous guys crying about the wait.. lol I'm still kicking around a G5 two core with 4 gigs of ram.. and she's ready to retire to file storage. I will be glad to wait it out and if the GPU takes too much of a hit I will then be able to pick up the c2d mini very cheaply. Either way, I'm certain that I will achieve a noticeable difference with all around performance.. and finally update some of my apps that have fallen out of the supported range.

I need something to crunch photos with speed in CS5, that's all. Got my ips monitors and peripherals taken care of, just mini me please!:)

Everyone's needs/wants are different. I have 6 computers in this house and all but one are faster than the G5 mini. But I likely use them for very different things than you do.

Just to add to the speculation, I'm guessing Apple may be waiting for the Intel Z68 chipset release after May 8. Z68 has SSD caching, allowing a little bit of flash memory (ie 20-40GB) to supplement and speed up magnetic storage.

Seems to me that'd be a perfect fit for the Mini: add a small amount of SSD (or whatever it is they are using in the MBAs) for a smaller price and still get most of the speed benefits.

This is true IF they use the quad core i5. I'm still assuming they'll put a dual core i3 in it. That upgrade fits better with the previous mini release we saw. Plus it gives a lot of breathing room to the iMac line, which I'm thinking will see the baseline unit sport an i5 quad.

I think he may have been referring to the dual-core i5 2.3Ghz not the quad-core. The dual-core i5 would provide a major CPU boost. I'm not sure how big it will be, but it'll make a huge difference.

I'm using a PowerMac G4. I've been holding out because I hope that Apple will come around and make what I want as a replacement. I was hoping the mini would have gone taller and offered room for two hard drives and an optical drive but instead it got thinner. I really don't need the horsepower of the Mac Pro plus it is bigger and heavier than my G4. If Apple would put iMac specs inside of a mid sized easy to open case where I can use the monitor I already have I'd be a happy camper. As it stands now, after 18 years of owning Macs I'm tempted to get a mid sized Windows machine.

If you're using a dual core G5, even a Mac Mini from 2009 will run rings around it. What is it you need in the mini that it doesn't have?

I agree they need to do a lower end tower, maybe Mac Pro case but based on enthusiast level chipset/chips instead of workstation level stuff, but if you can get by on a G4 you'll be blown away by even a C2D mini.

Incidentally, I just ordered one of the minis I needed because I had to get it in, so expect them to announce new ones as soon as mine arrives.

Potential iMac Refresh at End of April, Supplies Constrained

Told you so. I'll bet anything the Minis will be silently refreshed alongside them.

Well the rumors indicate that the minis are still in an abundant supply. I hope they do get refreshed along side the imacs but if the rumors of an a undance of available stock is correct then I doubt it.

The problem with the 2010 mac minis is they have a 2.4 cpu and a 2.66 cpu. Thus it never sold that well.

the 2009 had a 2.26 a 2.53 and a 2.66 cpu.

many people did not like the lack of cpu upgrade. They saw the 2010 as a design change not performance. Because both machines had the same cpu 2.66 as top end. so it makes the 2010 seem like a very old machine. Same cpu has been in a mini since OCT 2009! Granted the gpu is better but many mini users don't game.

A small HTPC for the living room is what they want. Sadly apple never gave up on the ATV or the mac mini and never fully committed their selves to one or the other. So the ATV is not quite as nice as an xbox (no 1080p) and the mini does not quite have what it takes to run a HT.. I am hoping that they finally drop one or the other (drop ATV) and make a commitment to a good powerful Macmini.

I'm using a PowerMac G4.

I'm using a 1 Ghz iBook G4. The screen died last year so I have an external monitor connected to it and a wired mouse. The external drives and ethernet makes the desk a spaghetti monster. I'd like a new computer but message boards don't take up much processor power so the iBook still ticks along. I suppose I am waiting for the new generation ports to come out before I will buy. I don't need Thunderbolt and USB 3 right now, but given how long I hold on to technology I expect I'll need them in the future. I'm happy waiting for the quad core, thunder/usb 3 mini with SSD.

Oh, and a pony.

Internal space for 2 hard drives plus an optical drive in an easy open case that has some jacks and ports on the front like the Mac Pro. It's not the processor it is what is wrapped around the processor that is the deal breaker.

I prefer not to have a bunch of external devices cluttering up my desk and I do not want a built in screen.

My problem is that I really can't get by with the G4 anymore. But I'm tired of waiting on Apple and I'm a stubborn SOB (taurus) that doesn't want external devices or built in screens. And if I chunked down the bucks for a Mac Pro I might have to build me a doghouse. :D
