Can you explain that more specifically?

Hard to be any more specific

Look in post 271

Note the System Profiler window

Note that the poster has clicked on "Bluetooth"

Instead click on "USB" (further down the list.)

There should be an entry for BT as it is wired through USB bus

I don't have that one.

Wifi seems to work okay based on your screenshot.

Did you installed Yosemite on an external volume? does it work okay on a non-beta OS like OS X Mavericks?

You may try following if it works okay on a non-beta OS.

1. copy /Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist to your desktop
2. trash it from the original location
3. restart your computer

If it didnt work both ways, you might have got a bad board there or something wrong with the connection.

I install the yosemite in my main disk. After replacing back to the original AirPort the bluetooth has no problem. As a result, I don't think there will be any problem because of my installation. The method you provided I had tried that before but no go. Thank you for trying to help me. I'm thinking to order another one and hoping that it will work. I'm also wondering that this might be a firmware problem because my firmware is still at Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (5.106.98.100.24). However, I found nowhere to update it.

Oooooh that's a big No No to install Beta release over the main drive but I'm sure that's not the first time you hear that from anyone.

anyways can you try opening up terminal on BOTH in the OS and in Recovery HD and enter the command "blued".

I get something like below in working bluetooth environment.

Code:
asris-mbp:~ MrAZ$ blued
2014-08-11 15:01:37.769 blued[373:507] hostControllerOnline - Number of Paired devices = 0, List of Paired devices = (null)

I have time-machine backup so that is fine.
I replaced back the original AirPort last night. I'll report the result when I get home.

Update: no response in OS, but one line shows in recovery. Not yours though.

After I upgraded to DP5 and did the modified kext, the bluetooth is still not available. I tried resetting the SMC and NVRAM and PRAM, but none of those worked. I tried reinstalling the AirPort card but no go. The original one the came with my MacBook Pro works flawlessly.

looks like apple is desperately trying to prevent older macs from getting the handoff features to work even if their hardware can be upgraded to support it, apple's 150 billion is not enough for them they want the extra few millions from people with older macs, and i know someone at apple is reading everything we post on this thread so they can go and block all hacks we come up with. hope they are ashamed of themselves.

Semi working

Hey guys I got the cax board, swapped it, used the Norma command, rebooted, kept dropped the modded kext, rebooted. I can see the handoff feature in the general, I can use the airdrop, but the handoff itself sometimes works and sometimes don't. And usually only from iPhone > map..not vice versa. iPad is not working at all...are there any more steps that need to be taken? Like signing out of iCloud, resetting the phone etc? Any tip appreciated!!

The hand off option actually shows up in the "General" in my laptop, but the Bluetooth just shows unavailable and no information is found in the system report.

It took awhile for it to start working, but after putting in the CAX card and the kext file, it's started working on my Late 2011 13" MBP. Airdrop doesn't seem to want to work though. Didn't even work when I had my BT 2.1 card in either.

Any one else experiencing this?

fixed it hopefully

Ok here's what kicked it for me. After swapping the boards and following the instructions, i could enable handoff in general but it just wouldnt work. After i signed out of iCloud on all my devices, turned off both BT and Handoff on all my devices, rebooted all the devices, turned on BT, logged back into iCloud, enabled handoff on all devices and all works. Continuity, sms relay, airdrop and hotspot.

Same steps worked for me

I had exactly the same as reeko182. New board, new kext Early 2011 MacBook Pro. Enable Handoff had appeared, I could make and receive calls on my through facetime but nothing else would work. Going through the steps of disabling handoff, signing out of iCloud, rebooting and vice-versa on each device has made everything work. I had to turn off legacy AirDrop to get it to work with my iPhone 5S on iOS 8

Yes, I agree 100%.

First it hinged on BT 4.0 but they realized that would be too easy to fix.

Now it requires a WiFi AC kext to be loaded which is absurd as the iOS devices don't have wifi AC so the kext is designed to also load on certain late model macs that use 'n'.

This is 100% a money grab

Yes, it will work. It did on my late 2011 MBP with the 4cax card. No, it does not update it to AC Wifi but that doesn't matter for this specific case. I've tested that handoff, continuity, and airdrop all work. I have a 5s iPhone.

Ok...I have an early 2011 15" MBP...with the CAX card work for me as well? Not spending more on a new machine when mine works awesome (except for the Handoff feature).

The Bluetooth 4.0 part is BCM94331PCIEBT4CAX.
The Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR part is BCM94331PCIEBT4AX.

I have no luck on my 15" Macbook Pro Early 2011, somehow it's able to pick up SMS from my iPhone but I cannot reply to it using my mac. I can see missed call notification on my facetime icon from the dock but it doesn't allow me to call using my mac.

After installing the new Card (CAX) the bluetooth is not working every more.
Not in Mavericks and not in Yosemite.

Same problem then in the last posts (not available)
Reset the SMC + NVRAM is not working.
There is also no BT controller in the sys profile.

Is there any solution for this problem?
Or is this a hardware problem with the card?

If you have checked the connectors, it is likely to be a hardware fault.

I assume that you have tried putting the original AX card back, verifying that Bluetooth still works?

I tried. The original one works perfectly.

Today i received and installed the CAX WIFI/Bluetooth card in my macbook pro 13 inch early 2011. After installing i noticed that there was no WIFI signal, even if i install the new kext from this thread there is no WIFI signal. I reinstalled the operating system, did a SMC, PRAM, NVRAM reset but without results. In the preference window it is saying that there is no WIFI module installed. The bluetooth is working fine and the cables are connected correctly. Is this a defect card?

Does resetting your PRAM undo the terminal commands and make the handoff/continuity not work anymore?
Reason why I ask is I did it the other day and when I went to airdrop a file to my phone I noticed that it was only showing compatibility with older macs. I re-did the steps mentioned and then everything started working again. Anyone else have this happen to them?

Just to clarify...you installed the CAX card and it didn't work for you? Even after running the kext files, etc?

Is anyone able to Relay SMS in DP5 using this Trick? I am on a MBP 2011 with a CAX card. Handoff is enabled in System Preferences -> General but my SMS does not get sent out via my Mac.
