2011 MacBook Pros can support Handoff/Continuity

Has anybody tried/tested continuity/handoff between MacBook Pro 2011+new CAX Airport/BT4.0 card and iPhone 4s?

No but don't believe that is possible because the 4s doesn't even support the airdrop.

1. Download 0xED from here:

2. Download KextDrop here:

http://www.cindori.org/software/kextdrop/

3. Go To folder: /System/Library/Extensions

4. right click on IO80211Family.kext, select COPY

5. Go to your desktop

6. Right click on PASTE

7. Go to Terminal, and type: (exactly as below)

ioreg -l | grep "board-id" | awk -F\" '{print $4}'

8. Your result should look like : Mac-94245A3940C91C80, (yours might be different.) Don't close terminal yet

9. Go To your Desktop Right Click on IO80211Family.kext, Choose SHOW PACKAGE CONTENTS

10. Open CONTENTS: PLUGINS:, then Right Click on AirPortBrcm4360.kext, and choose SHOW PACKAGE CONTENTS

11. OPEN CONTENTS: MAC OS:, then Right Click on AirPortBrcm4360, and choose OPEN WITH: OTHER: 0XED

12. Press CMD F, search for "Mac-" (without the quotes).

13. Look at the first result, for example, it might be "Mac-C3EC7CD22292981F"

14. Go back to the FIND box, in the FIND box enter that first "Mac-" number that you found.

15. In the REPLACE box, enter the number you got in Terminal, (remember you left it open.)

16. Click REPLACE

17. Click SAVE (the red circle button)

18. Go Back to Terminal, and type: (exactly like below)

sudo nvram boot-args="kext-dev-mode=1"

19. Open KextDrop, and Drag and drop the IO80211Family.kext that you modified into the window.

20. Click INSTALL

21. Reboot

22. Go to > SYSTEM PREFERENCE> GENERAL, at the bottom click ENABLE HANDOFF

I do this on Public Beta and Airdrop, Handoff works and some continuity.
But only the Phone calls and sms does not work.
Calender, Safari, etc all is good.
When a call comes in, my iPad rings too, but not the MacBook Pro.
What is the problem`?
When i open Contacts in MacBook and click on a number, it shows only:

zoom
send message
call with skype
send sms with skype

Tested with iPhone 5S and iOS8 GM

Can i fix this problem? Why does all work but not the phonecalls and sms?

Hey guys;

My daily driver's a mid 2010 15" MBP with the superdrive swapped with an SSD and fusion drive hacked together in terminal back in the day. It is running amazingly for a 4.5 year old laptop and I still get 3+ sometimes 4 hours of battery life. Bootup and shutdown times etc is no problem with the SSD. So I'm guessing Yosemite will be all good on my laptop as well however, is there a way for me to use continuity / handoff features with my future iPhone 6?

I mean, if there's even a slight possibility I'll delve into the research on how to do it. Have I missed the entire possibility by having 2010 instead of '11?

I can't get this to work at all followed the instructions exactly.. Im on DP7 but I'm just now in the process of updating my iPhone to the gm. I have no option for handoff or anything but i get some sms coming in but i can't send them and air drop doesn't work nor has it ever trying this.. UGH....

i Updated my iPhone to the GM i0s 8 .. I have no options for continuity on my mac to turn it on.. anyone have any ideas anything.. No airdrop either... Help anyone please..

I see that some of you are hacking the pb3 and dp7 kexts? Does that mean the board-IDs are back in the kexts again?

Just updated my iPhone to iOS 8 GM and I wasn't sure which modified kext I had so I just updated to the latest one posted by TealShark #394 and guess what! Handoff, Continuity + Airdrops works! The only thing that have not worked for me is Instant Hotspot.

Well at least upgrading of the wifi/bluetooth card is worth the money for now

- Handoff works both ways
- Apps tested: Safari, Maps, Calendar, Contacts, Notes, Messages, Mail
- I'm sure there are other apps that will work but the ones above are just I use more often.

Can't wait for the Official Release now that it looks like there's hope with the progress of the features working as expected for the older models.

After a lot of fiddling I got it partially working. Handoff works all three ways (iPhone iPad mac) anyway sometimes it just don't...what troubles methe most that ever since I fired up the gm I just never got asked if I want to relay my sms and indeed it don't work from iPad nor Mac...any idea how to fix this?

I am sure you know this, but you need to make sure that the Mac-3324324234 number is not going to be the same on both machines. Make sure you use the correct board id for the mac mini.

Did indeed remember to get the proper board ID, however, I've found myself stuck on the mini in between working and not working. AirDrop works between MacBook Pro and mini, (with older Mac sharing disabled on the mini) but no option to enable/disable Handoff in System Preferences.

MacBook Pro, on the other hand, is working 100%. However, as I mentioned, I'm not sure how I achieved that. It seems to me there's some cache or something lingering somewhere preventing this from working correctly. As an uneducated guess.

Then I used kext drop to install the DP7 kext rebooted did a permissions repair and bam it kinda works now.. I say kinda works cause I still can't send sms messages or answer or make calls. But i can see the handoff icon on my mac and phone and it works when clicking on it like when i make a route on my phone in maps then click on the handoff icon on my mac it shows up with the exact route.

I believe the SMS Relay/Call Forwarding to Macs may be bugged in iOS 8 GM and DP7. Worked fine on DP7 and iOS beta...5? I believe I saw a prompt regarding SMS forwarding in Yosemite while running the GM after a clean install. However, I have since restored my phone from a backup and am no longer able to send/receive texts or calls on my Macs.

Delete your iofamily kext.. Reboot

download the one for dp7 in the link posted above. right click on the kext show contains delete the 4331 kext thats in there. Then use kext drop to install the kext reboot.. Do a permissions repair reboot again.. then you should be good..

In theory you need to or unsigned kexts won't load. (They lose sig when checksum changes due to mods)

Just curious if you have found a secret backdoor or what.

Kext-dev-mode=1 enabled on both of my machines (Early 2011 MBP and Late 2011 Mini Server) but haven't had much luck getting the mini to enable Handoff. Did enable the new AirDrop, however.

I noticed on your website you have a Bluetooth dongle you claim will work with Yosemite for older MBP, correct? Would it be possible for you to make a video showing it working with an older MBP?

Exactly same problem with me, probably we have to wait for Yos GM.
