Scratching my head

Hi All,

And thanks to everybody who's contributed to this work-around :)

I went all yiiippiiii when I found this tread and happily went about modifying the required files only to find that it simply does not work - for me.

My setup:
- mid 2011 MacbookAir (13-inch)
- MBA id: 742912EFDBEE19B3
- System Profiler listed YES, YES, YES on bluetooth and Supported, Supported on Wifi
- Modified both IO802 and IOBluetooth ("Allow Handoff..." available, and checked, within System Preferences)
- Incoming and outgoing calls works
- No continuity
- No AirDrop from Iphone 5S (IOS 8.0.2) to MBA
- MBA can Airdrop to same Iphone
- Same Iphone can Airdrop to other iphones

What I have done:
- Reset, and retried the .kext modifications several times
- Downloaded a pre-edited IO802...kext file (specifically for my mac-id)
- Signed out of icloud and reboot both devices
- Keychain is active on both devices

My first attempts at this was yesterday morning so the devices have been running for a solid 24 hours with this setup without them "hooking up".

What to do next? :)

Regards,

Thomas

I have an EARLY 2011 MBP,
When I first installed Yosemite, everything was fine, no slowdown, nothing. After I edited these two kext's, it seems that everything is slowing down considerably!

I mistakenly jumped the gun and just started changing the kext's from the tutorial without having the "part" already. Is there a connection here? My M$ office takes at least 2 minutes to open up Word, safari takes a few seconds to load pages/switch between windows (noticeable difference from Mavericks), and overall things have slowed down.

Did I mess something up in the kext, is this just my 2011 MBP being too slow to run Yosemite, or is this something that a reformat would fix?

All you need to do if you download one of my file is :

remove your Mac id from the name of the kext so it matches IO80211Family.kext.....
<snip>

.

Just wanted to reply and thank you Lem3ssie. I still don't understand what I did wrong with the IO802 file, but the one you provided for me did the trick!!

Thank you.

Could you do your magic wit this KEXT for minis too?

Macbook Air and Mac Mini needs IOBluetoothFamily editing, remember.

I have a mini - don't understand this point though. How will the process exactely change? Would someone be so kind to re-post the correct steps for a Mini?

Thx

sudo kextcache -system-caches")
it told me:"Toms-MacBook-Air:~ orirafa1$ sudo kextcache -system-caches
Can't create kext cache under /Users/orirafa1 - owner not root."

Problem kextcache -system-prelinked-kernel

Hi,

I have mac mini mid 2011 and I have follow the tutorial at post #609 until step 26. Go Back to Terminal, and type the following commands. Wait for each one to finish.

Code:
sudo kextcache -system-prelinked-kernel

I'll post the result:

sudo kextcache -system-prelinked-kernel

but instead in the next command (sudo kextcache -system-caches) I haven't had errors.

When you restart the bluetoorh clearly did not work and did not appear in Preferences -> General the option of enabling handoff.

Who can help me? Thanks! :(

First post's instructions worked great for a 2011 Late MacBook Pro running OS X Yosemite 10.0 with an iPhone 5 running iOS 8.1.

Can someone on here advise me on this:

I updated my late 2011 MacBook Pro with a new airport card (as spec'ed within the very first post), followed the instructions within the very first post and while hand-off/continuity are working, my wireless network is still 802.11n and not 802.11ac of which both the new airport card and my Time Capsule support. How can I get my wireless network to be 802.11ac?

THANKS!

You cannot get 802.11ac with your Mac, unfortunately. The most you can do is to upgrade the bluetooth to 4.0 LE, which you seem to have done.
