I went to walmart today and got this organizer rack. I thought it was a good idea. Not for the mini but the rest. My cd/dvd external drive goes in there. And my external hd. And 2 extra slots for whatever.

Do you have a link for this?

Hello 'Neighbour' - sadly no - I did look at the website just to see if they had it on there - they don't. except as a much larger version.
The one I bought was in a basket full of them in the market hall at Eastwood.

Couple of photos to give you an idea - how much it lifts the mini by (21mm) and its size. Once the mini is on top - its a doddle to position it so the trivet is invisible. my mini is held in place by the cables dropping behind the desk - you could just as easily put a couple of bits of blu-tac on or even a small piece of masking tape - for extra stability, I haven't found that necessary though.

My opinion is it lifts the mini enough to improve air circulation without being 'obvious'.

From memory the trivet was either 50p or a £1 - it was dirt cheap anyway.

My temp issues were solved by using an old porcelain drinks coaster.... Instead of my mini running at 65C almost 30 secs after boot time... it now idles at approx the 45c mark (give or take a couple of degrees either side) :D

I also have MBP's and I always elevate them (XPad) and the general temps are always a lot better than if they were sat on a desk :)

That trivet looks like it works wonders! Gutted though as i was in Ikea on thurs! Oh well another trip and maybe some cinnamon rolls to boot aswell!

Thanks to who ever advised me about my kernel panicking issue, used Rember and discovered that one of my 4GB sticks was a piece of ****! So am running on just 4GB till my replacement stick arrives, however no problems so far and has been running at full steam!

Neo, sorry to hear about the ram, but glad I pointed you in the direction to get it fixed, good luck with your new sticks, just remember to make sure your fan is fully connected after tinkering, those things seem to want to pop off!

Wow, that was fast! My Mini is now happily sitting on her new trivet, which arrived this morning. Although I could've driven to an Ikea store in the area, spent time looking around in the place for one of these, it was a whole lot easier just to order through Amazon (since Ikea itself doesn't do online orders for this item). The trivet works perfectly and looks good doing it!

why don't you guys just use this? best $20 I ever spent and doesn't look home made and its specifically MADE for the mini.

Yes, but they were hard to snap into place! They provide a little additional elevation plus they keep the trivet unit off the surface (in my case, a glass workstation). This trivet works a treat and I am delighted with it. Now I am thinking of getting another one, which I would put under my Airport Extreme Base Station.

Here is my setup.

The thing on top of the mini is the 500gb hard drive I got from jimmy ying here. I use it for time machine. And the enclosure is from geeks.com from ebay. 13 dollars and 50 cents including shipping. Its cheap plastic but does the job. It holds upto 650gb serial ata laptop hard drive on the left and laptop size cd rom drive on the right.

The fan clip broke but the actual fan is fine and works well. I just went to lowes or home depot (can't remember) and got the metal things with screws on the side to fix the broken clip.

The hard drive is sitting on top just because I ran out of space and needed place to put my fan. But it never gets hot.

The fan blowing into the mini keeps my temps down.

Which widget are you using to display all of the temps, etc?

Thanks!
