# of times in my life I've sat in a pitch black room with a pitch black video at fullscreen playing at full brightness: zero.

# of exchanges over hilarious "defects" people discover on here: zero

At the absolute worst, magically, heaps of dust will all migrate from the environment, through a gap in the bezel (that is likely just light piercing through glue) and clouding the screen. Result? Apple will see the problem and swap it out (and if it happens by the time gen 2 comes around you'll get a free upgrade -- happened with my last iMac when an issue occurred, they even bumped my 24" to a 27" top of the line. Apple customer service rocks.)

I feel bad for people who are going to make a bunch of exchanges trying to find some 'ultimate' ocd-approved MacBook pro. But hey, different strokes.

i have a BTO 15" tb mbp with no light bleed at all from outer edges of bezel, so i think its a manufacturing defect, so send it back and get a new, they should let you use advanced replacement so you can keep yours until the new one is ready and then swap them out

Same question as above… :)

Cos, honestly, if you look at it in anything less than those specific conditions (totally dark room, full-screen black, 100% brightness), you won't notice it.

I would try and set the brightness for an appropriate level for a pitch black environment FIRST (I would never use the new display at 100% brightness. That's insane and if you do that your eyes will die very soon).
Then check if I could see it when watching movies with dark background. If positive, exchange.
If not, I would not worry about the dust part. It might never happen and if it did, would be very easy to get it fixed/replaced later!

No one's suggesting actually using it at full brightness beyond checking for the bezel/light 'issue'!

If you don't crank the brightness right up, you won't see it - which is kind of why it's a non-issue, but also why you need to go to 100% to see if your MBP has it or not (which it will do).

I would go a stage further and say play an all black video or put an all black background up, crank the brightness up to full in a pitch black room and then put your face about one foot from the screen and you will see it :)

I think if you've used your laptop for a few days now doing all the things you would normally do and haven't seen it, don't go looking for it like us fools did :)

There may be some without it but I'm not gambling and getting one with dead pixels, scratches, two tone screen etc etc

Then it is really a non-issue.

I also notice that none of the peeps claiming theirs doesn't have it who I asked if they definitely checked it properly (dark room, full brightness, etc) have reported back. Not sure what that implies. :)

Totally sure? You've looked at the edges of the bezel in a pitch black room with a totally black screen at 100% brightness..?
Why the need to check for a default that is not naturally visible to the naked eye unless put through extreme and unlikely conditions ? If he doesn't see it, then good for him... there are enough problems, no need to add extras.

I see it slightly on my 15", more on the left side than the right. Has to be totally dark room, brightness has to be 100% to just make it out.

Another thing I wouldn't have known if it wasn't for you guys... thanks a lot! :p

No need at all, except that he flatly states it's not there and I'm suggesting that all of the new MBPs probably have it and that he might want to look again.

Don't worry about it – it's not a fault. :)

Ah ok, fair enough then. I just don't understand the people complaining about tiny things in highly unlikely situation (need to put the phone upside down and tilt your head etc.)
I guess the best is to wait until the next fresh batch of MBP arrives.
