More issues with this model. I've noticed the popping on the hinge area on my original MBP. The replacement I received does not have this issue. But it does have the same keyboard issue.

The senior tech I'm working with should be getting back to me soon with more info from Apple engineers on videos of the keyboard issue I provided to them.

I do have this popping issue too since my MBP arrived. So the solution is to take it to the Genius Bar? Here we go again... My third MB in 9 years, all of them have had to be taken to the GB within just a few months since purchase :-(

13" MacBook with Touch Bar. The original one I bought had a faulty 'f' key which after about a week stopped working reliably altogether. I took it to the Apple store (over an hours drive away), they sent it away and they replaced the top case. I picked it up (another hour+ drive) and got it home to discover it suffered from this clicking issue.

They came and picked it up, replaced the top case again and sent it back, same issue.

So they came and picked it up again, replaced the top case again and sent it back. Same issue.

I'm genuinely not sure what to do. If I take it back and order a new one, presumably it'll just have the same fault?

Has anyone in this thread actually received their laptop back and had this completely resolved?

I haven´t been reading much in this thread but I find it interesting that they replace the entire top case for just a faulty key. So you have had three new top cases and they all had the high pitched clicking sound, a different fault than the original problem.

I assume you have talked to Apple via telephone and not in person given that it is such a long drive? After so many tries I think you deserve some on-the-spot service if you were to take it back again. Like getting a new device and being able to confirm that it works in the store itself. Maybe you can ask for something like that because you just need to be sure and cannot wait any longer on repairs. You can't just keep sending it back and it's not efficient for them either.

They offered me a replacement in store the first time (although I wouldn't have known at the time to look for the key issue), but because I upgraded the CPU and the RAM, they didn't have the same configuration in store.

Whatever I do, I can't just send it back for another top case. The UPS guy and I are already getting to know each other, he seems nice and everything, but I just want a working laptop!

Me too, I tried looking into it online, but everything on the topic is circa 2006...
[doublepost=1491879883][/doublepost]
I imagine it has to do with the type of repair, my advisor said it was a "reshaping of the keys" I called him again to make sure everything was going smoothly only to find that he's not in again until Thursday. If the message remains the same tomorrow afternoon when I check, I will certainly be calling Apple support again for another senior advisor...This whole situation is becoming so irritating
Update: I got a call saying my Mac was ready for pickup from repair. I walked in he gave me my computer with a sheet that said they replaced the logic board & the top case (AGAIN) I was assured by my senior advisor and the genius I dropped it off with that they would not be performing the same exact repair as the first time. Either way I went with it... I begin setting it up from scratch with and the Touch ID sensor isn't registering at all. We call the manager over and they give me another replacement. So now I'm back to square 1. Ill test this new computer when I get home. I'm just so fed up with Apple at this point, will be calling me senior advisor as well...

I just reached out to my senior adviser AGAIN, have not had a response back this week. We need a central person to work with on this issue. It's getting ridiculous.

I reached out just now. I'm done with this computer, I'm demanding a credit so I can buy the previous gen pro

This certainly is way bigger than just a few incidents. I would expect Apple to make a statement, providing faster service and/or updated hardware soon. They just dropped to no. 5 on that list with the best laptops right? Hugh deal for PR. I mean, not level Pepsi or United, but still :D

That laptop ranking wasn't about this issue; it's about some subjective preferences by the author of the ranking.

Don't expect Apple to make an announcement about this any soon than in the past. Reading only this and related threads may give a false impression of how prevalent concern about this is. Broader threads about satisfaction with the new MBP give a different perspective.

It's hard to say how many actually have these issues, sure. Have a look at this string of videos on a Dutch website, pretty horrible problems too, wasn't sure if they'd already been collected somewhere on MacRumors: https://www.onemorething.nl/2017/04/nieuwe-macbook-pro-maakt-lawaai/

For those that are willing, I have created a Google form to capture case numbers of those who are working on this issue with Apple. I'm collecting case number and any description (optional) that you want to provide. I am in the process of contacting my organizations Apple rep (we do about $500,000/yr with them). Trying to get somewhere with this and there is power in numbers. I will only provide this info to the Apple rep (not to anyone in this forum), no personal information please.

Thanks!

Just talked to the manager at my Apple Store, I couldn't deal with another week of being without a laptop or work with those obnoxious keys. They allowed me to swap it out for a previous gen pro... perhaps I'll look into one in the future after the bugs are worked out. So relieved to be rid of that thing

Just heard back from a senior advisor. They said engineering is aware of the issue and there is in fact a "keyboard shim" available that can be done in store, most likely same day. He called my local Apple Store to confirm. I have an appointment setup for tomorrow and will update the group with more info as I have it... stay tuned!

Guys, really try the solution that emde posted on page 30 or 29 with the tape.
I received my laptop on tuesday and had 5 keys with the noise.
I did put some tape and since no sound and it works perfectly, im more than happy

Cheers

Cheera

I'm sure it works, but if you damage your keys it could be $100 or more to get (3rd party) replacements. If this is covered by Apple with a trip to the Genius Bar, it would be a better solution. Just use caution when plucking those keys off. I'm sure it works, just be careful!

Buy the way, I'll post an update tomorrow after I goto the Apple Store about the "shim" fix that Apple has, we will see, ugh!

But remember just because they said there is a shim fix doesn't mean it's a newly designed part, it could very well be the exact same shim they are currently using in production.

Yes it works, I did it!
You need to pull the top right corner of the key and push toward the top with fingers then you hear a click. Then do the same in the top left corner and hop the keyap comes off!

Its up to you guys but it took me like 1h to fix it! If you are too scared dont do it, but its definitely worth it

Can you give me some more information?
What kind of tape did you use?
where did you put tape exactly?
the key in the video clip about the taping was the caps lock . so it was very wide.
but my problematic key is P key. so I'm not so sure where to put the tape.

but my problematic key is P key. so I'm not so sure where to put the tape.

So the steps:
- take out the key carefully
- press the mechanism under the key to see where the noise comes from (normally the bottom)
- so that means if the noise comes from the bottom, what you want is to put more pressure on the top so it doesnt press the bottom and doesnt make the noise.
- behind the key there is a circle, so put it at the top of the circle, but dont put too much on the circle otherwise the keycap will feel spongy (my experience) (I attached a picture)
- then put back the key and test it out
Note: the best would be to put a little more tape and then you remove a bit till you feel that it suits you!

I did it on tuesday and checked it yesterday and it still feel good.

Apple store called me this weekend and said they had to transfer some key caps from another store and I should be able to pick it up tomorrow (Tuesday). We will see if it is fixed. Ugh.

Does that mean we can confirm that Apple is replacing key caps now to solve the problem?
