I just officially gave up on the mac mini and I ordered a lenvov m700 tiny

ThinkCentre M700 Tiny | 1L Desktop PC for Large Enterprises | Lenovo US

I got the base model for 299 told them no key board and no mouse price is 279 .

told them put in a 128 gb ssd for 10 bucks so my price was 289.

comes with a pentium g4400t cpu.

I will swap in an intel 6400t which I have in a pc the pc will take the g4400t as it mines coins.

So I get a new pc with a 6400t small. it needs more ram so i will add an 8gb stick and go from 4gb to 12gb.
Oh it will need a display to hdmi cable for 10 bucks. so I will spend a little under 350.

for a ssd pc with 12gb ram and a 6400t cpu.

i will pull the windows 10 in it and go for a linux build. cost me nothing to change that.

So what this means is the new 2016 mac mini will come in oct and be good.

Yeah, I get that. I also bought a new computer. The new Mac Mini will be freaking spectacular for sure :)

There once was a bloke called Cape Dave
a man so noble and brave
that he spent all his money
on Dell stuff – which ain't funny –
just so others could Mini on and be saved.

I thank you. Your excellent poem will help with the burn when the mini comes in Oct :)

It's sort of designer like a Mac Pro.
Certainly has some common major structural features, like the vertical airflow, and the internal triangular arrangement of the heat sinks and boards (30s into the video).

there is also the HP Elite splice (that someone posted somewhere)

http://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/elite-slice/overview.html

The HP elite splice looks reasonably good. A sata ssd doesn't bother me, because there's a serious case of diminishing returns with the higher speed pcie ssds. The external power brick isn't an issue with me either, because custom internal power supplies in these SFF cases add a lot more heat (means higher failure rate + slower processors), are more expensive (add to system cost), are much more difficult and expensive to replace, and you've got to have a cord attached anyway, so I don't see what the deal is with just attaching a box to the cord.

That all said, few people still recognize how much the market will be changing with Intel's new mini-STX motherboard format. There's already a mini-STX system about the size of a Mini, much cheaper, that uses up to T class cpus (better/cheaper than U class mobile parts). The AsRock Deskmini is 2X the volume of a Mini, but can use up to an i7-6700 and is very easy to work with.

The bigger shock will be when "thin mini-stx" boards come out. That will allow you to buy a case + monitor that's the same as an iMac, but potentially with a separate and fully replaceable/upgradeable motherboard

Of course, they're still not Macs... but unfortunately the innovation isn't coming from Apple anymore..

Seems like some really nice components in it all around...with one exception. The GTX 950 is a last-gen video card, and is the lowest end card in the GTX 900 series.

Ah, come on, man. To make an SFF work, you need to go with components that fit into a cramped space and don't generate incredible amounts of heat. If you're looking for high-end graphics, you should instead be going with a device that has a beefy power supply and multiple full-size card slots, not an SFF box...

You're probably right for this size box, and I don't disagree with you at all. But the comment I responded to was comparing the Gigbyte to a Mac Pro, which can be configured with up to two 300W TDP video cards, whereas that Gigabyte has a single 90W card.

In the context of a comparison against the Mac Pro I liked all of the specs except the GPU.

In the context of an SFF it's fine.

I wonder if Apple will offer the new MacBook's and Mini's with that Jet Black anodized aluminum? That would be pretty sweet to have the mini blend in with the rest of my home theatre setup. :)

@Daniel Reed seems to think there won't be a new mini.

I'd love it if Apple introduced a new mini (or mini replacement) available in multiple colours/finishes. A Jet Black (or Black) version would look sleek.

I think that would be a decidedly foolish move on their part. It would certainly underscore just how out of touch they are with their customers.

I'd likely have to do a hackintosh HTPC then. Or seriously consider putting the effort into getting out of the ecosystem entirely. They keep doing these things that piss us off. It's just a matter of time for people to hit a tipping point.

And while I'm having my tantrum - yes, I really DO want a 17" MacBook Pro with retina display please!!! :) Make it Jet Black. ;) Ah, hell...let's really dream - DLC coat it! :D

I hope you ordered the one with DP to HDMI port, HDMI is not default for some reason

Mac OS 10.12 released; check. Give them a couple of weeks to beta test the new software and then get ready for the new hardware!

More likely give folks a chance to see what drivers are in 10.12 - they usually give a clue as to what may be coming up next for Macs, for example, what CPUs and GPUs are supported.
