Yes they are, there is NO technical reason for an entire group conversation to have poor image quality just because one person in it doesn't have the means or inclination to use iMessage. The actual reason they do it is to get people to apply group pressure on their friends to get an iPhone, and it works. But it is disgraceful.

No. As a person who has used several Android phones. MMS sends compressed images. And that’s what it becomes, MMS. iMessage is for customers because otherwise they have everyone’s messages on their servers.

I have read about green vs blue. It’s more like customers vs not customers because they don’t owe anyone anything. Why do you think you’re owed free things from Apple?
This is getting absurd.
1. Apple products are not free, including iMessage, even if you do not pay for the service directly.
2. Group chats for paying customers are deteriorated if you include people with a different color
3. If you have special political agenda's then maybe segregation is cool with you, personally I find it very distasteful.

1) I wasn’t talking about iMessage for customers but for non customers. That’s the only way they’d be able to control the quality of the image.
2) Because MMS has a small size limit in terms of data and compresses images.
3) It’s not segregation. It’s some people being customers and some not. I find your entitled use of a term that connotates so many horrible things to be beyond distasteful.

I’m actually pretty chill. And I doubt it’s really the colors but what they represent. iMessage allows me to send full resolution images and video. MMS is broken, and even when it does work it sends lesser images.

Not to mention that I like messaging with iPhone users because I can also easier share things from Photos and Animoji and maybe even music and movies if they’re family or a close friend.

I could never be in a relationship with someone who does not send full resolution messages and video. I cant believe someone would say that. Maybe its a generation thing. Crazy.

People have been in and out of relationships for a variety of reasons. How is iMessage status any worse than things like hair color?

Seriously.. this is what has happened to the thread? Now its down to dating preferences.

Sorry for even engaging in this nonsense. Unfortunately your thread turned surreal a couple of pages ago.

Back on topic I use what works. I buy what I want, and don't consider an electronic product to be a sign of status or social standing. I got past that many years ago. (Must be an age thing).

I used to buy Apple products for their design, ease of use, and minimal operating system issues. In recent years I feel Microsoft has upped it's game, and PC hardware has vastly improved. The days of beige towers and two inch thick black plastic laptops seem to be passing. There are many more quality options available.

I still look to Apple as my initial choice, but considering the problems I have had with recent phones, iOS, and High Sierra, I feel there is nothing holding me back anymore from looking elsewhere. I could care less what color someone's texts are, and for the record I have been married to a blonde and a brunette. Both wonderful woman.

FWIW I will be giving the Note 8 a try in the coming weeks. Wish me luck.

I agree with you 100% on using "what works". I am not opposed to using Apple products, but I won't allow myself to get stuck in the ecosystem again. That unfortunately makes many of Apple's products unattractive to me. For example, I sunset my AppleTV because only someone with an Apple phone can connect to it. This also caused me to stop buying movies from Apple. If I get them from Amazon, I can use them with any device. Its not really that hard to steer clear of the "lock in".

I love my Note 8... definitely a great product if you take the time to learn all that it can do.

If you haven't already, check out Movies Anywhere. It is what Disney Movies Anywhere evolved into. I believe the service was spearheaded by Disney, who brought aboard all major movie studio/distributors (except for maybe Paramount, not sure) so that if you buy a movie from Google, Amazon, iTunes, Vudu, or FandangoNow, it’ll be available for you on ANY of the other services as well. Also, it applies to most past purchases as well. Let’s you shop for the best price and avoid platform lock in.

I’m stunned that all the studios actually agreed to this but I’m not looking a gift horse in the mouth.

Reading the last couple of pages I'm struck again by how personal our usage is. The idea of keeping or getting rid of a phone based on texting platform is a non-starter for me. I like imessage but couldn't care less when I don't use it. Lower res pics via text? Don't care. And I happen to prefer Google's solution to sending video, which is to create a link and send that to someone.

It all comes down to preference! So can you expand how you create a link for the video? I just recently switched from iPhone to the Note 8 and I am loving it. However, there is new things for me to learn. I am intrigued with sending people a link because that seems fast and light. Even on iOS sending videos on iMessage takes a long time whereas a link is instant.

There is so much Android can learn from iOS and vice versa. Neither platform is perfect. I do hope that Android will get something similar to iMessage as a default SMS though. I think that is something Android can vastly improve on but I get we have TONS of other solutions too which is platform agnostic which I like b/c I hate to be locked down to a single platform whether it is iOS or Android.

Yes, I'd like to understand the send a link via Google too. Videos are actually the real problem with the green bubble. Most of the pictures are high enough res to be ok for the purpose of texting. Videos, on the other hand, are completely unviewable.

Also, looking at your sig... why do you have an Apple Pencil?

If you use Google Photos, it's listed as one of the options from the share sheet ("Create link"). Sammy's photo gallery also offers a similar feature. I prefer Google Photos because you can use it on any platform.

I don't understand why Google hasn't created its own iMessage clone. For a company that loves generating data on users, you'd think a service like that would be a slam dunk.

lol because it was when I have to have everything Apple (I wanted everything to match and work in that ecosystem). What I really wanted was a Microsoft surface Pro but I just can't get over how ugly (sorry!) the machine was compared to the aesthetics of Apple. So, I bought a 12.9 iPad pro (in gold but I really wanted the rose gold but they did not have it :( ) and I know then it won't run full fledged Adobe apps but I JUST had to get it because it fits in with my Apple lineup...
the Ipad Pro was so heavy to lug around with and it does not run the apps that I needed. I know I was choosing form / branding over function / utility but I just like pretty things okay lol. I knew in my mind it was not right for what I want but my heart wanted it...I think many artist have this issue. I was also hoping eventually they will have the pencil be able to use on not just the iPad but iPHone as well but that's just wishful thinking. So, I already sold the iPad pro, I need to remmeber to sell the rest of my Apple stuff when I get around to it.
Now, today, I have the note 8 in orchid gray (I wanted blossom pink but they only have it in Asia. D: why samsung why only 2 colors?) I love my note 8. It is compact (they need to make a iPad mini size for the note 9 or 10!), this is my iPad pro replacement with a built in stylus. It is always an internal battle with me wanting brand name pretty things and piratical things that works. But I ordered a BUNCH of glittery skins and pink tempered glass to make my phone as cute as possible. I also have a pink Samsung stylus that I ordered from eBay which works perfectly.

Most conversations around this tend to suspect it has to do with carrier/OEM relationships as well as potential monopolistic behaviors. For this to have the success that Apple's Messages (actually hasn't been called iMessage for years, FWIW), it would have to be the default SMS messaging option on all Android phones. Locking this requirement in likely wouldn't earn any fans in the EU where Google seems to be a favorite target, nor their OEM partners who like their users to use their default messaging option.

Yes, I understand Apple is locking in their messaging solution but they're also the only OEM for their OS. And with approximately 15% of the worldwide market share, accusing them of monopolistic behavior doesn't really carry any weight.

Just my $0.02.

I have had my Note 8 for 4 months now.
Nothing I hate about it or that I can not deal with, just missing the ease of use from the iPhone...

One thing and any others can chime in, my videos on the Note 8 have not been good. That have been blurry and grainy and when I send them off, I am sure the look grainy as well, anyone else noticed this issue?
[doublepost=1521160468][/doublepost]It took a while to get this Note set how I wanted it, and I am enjoying not having to pay for apps.

I do miss Apple Music though....

You can stay on Apple Music even on Android.

That's funny... I prefer the Surface Pro look. I considered the Galaxy Book, which is a close competitor to the Surface Pro, and one of the reasons I disliked it was it looked too much like an iPad clone!

You can stay on Apple Music even on Android.

That is unless you are going to use it with a Gear S3 for streaming, and then Spotify is your only option. I wish Amazon would support the Gear S3.
