Is it really better than the 15”? Or just not as evident across a smaller screen? Curious why it would be better otherwise. Different panel in the 13”?
Per my post above, the panel in the 13 is a different screen, it has to bee. Both are LG.

The screen on my 13 is much better. There are no color aberrations that I can detect, and I am picky. There is absolutely no pink or blue cast. And there are no dirty blotches anywhere. And there is essentially no IPS glow.

Subjectively the 13-inch screen is better as well. Ceteris paribus (default color profile, same graphic/video, same brightness levels), the colors on the 13 seem to have more punch, and blacks look blacker on all white backgrounds.

i prefer the 13" screen too, then my returned 15".
Also prefer the Ultrafine 4K.
backlight is much more consistent than on the 15"

Here are the ultimate questions guys and gals -

1. Is this inconsistent panel being used in the 15-inch model A040? This seems to be predominately the one being used in the latest 15 inchers from what I can tell in the stores I've seen them in.

2. If it's just the model A040 panel for the 15-inchers, who's making that panel? Assuming LG here, but how does one know for sure?

3. What panel model in the 13-inch? And does that panel have the same uniformity issues?
I got mine about a week ago. It's a BTO (i9/32/1TB/V20) and was built about 10 days ago. LG screen model A040. The same exact issue: Pink on the left shifting to blue/green on the right. Subtle, but visible on white and light grey backgrounds. I am also not happy with the contrast, although it's supposed to be improved from last year's models. I've thought about swapping it out, but given the comments here and having seen screens at local Apple Stores (all A40s, by the way), I think I will stick with what I have for now. Maybe later down the road, I will have the screen replaced (a simple one hour job) at a local Apple certified provider. Perhaps Apple will have an updated screen model by then.

My take is the pink to blue shift is present in all current MMP 15 models. People who claim their screens are good are lucky in that on their displays the color shift is minimal and not easily discernible.

Yea, it's better. The yellow blotch at the bottom was easily noticeable on the 15". On this machine, the 13', I can hardly notice any color uniformity issues in normal use.

Is it objectively better or is it just that the ways it isn't uniform are less easy to see for me?

I don't know. Probably the latter. The fact that the machine is cheaper helps too.

When I'm paying 3 grand I tend to be more picky with the screen quality.

tbh when i received my 13" i expected the worse, given my experience with the i9.
if the i9 was 75% as good as the 13" was, i would have kept it.
