Or an eGPU, it runs like a desktop. Works well and boosts your performance. You need the 5600m. Then all is well. I am glad I just went ahead and got the 16 maxed out.
yep and people are still not getting it. It’s the thread that keeps on giving.Or an eGPU, it runs like a desktop. Works well and boosts your performance.
Anyway this thread is getting a bit ... old. Overally the experience on the laptop is good and it's an Intel / AMD issue. We've been over this, over and over, and over, AND over...
maybe overkill for the throughput in the TB3?I might even get a 3090 in egpu for boot camp. For premiere pro.
"normal behavior"

Depends what actually real work bandwidth vs. Speed will be. If it's better than 5600m under mac os x.maybe overkill for the throughput in the TB3?
My 2080 super is clearly faster in my PC than in the Egpu in bootcamp, due to the limitations on the cable. Still great though.
I am considering getting a 3090 for the PC box [has better cooling] and drop the 2080 back into the Egpu for WFH use with the MBP.
It is amazing what an Egpu can do for those who can utilise it 100% for productivity. Certainly transforms the MBP into a good desktop.
I have exact same 16. Xdr and LG5k. Works beautiful.Yup. I've been running a 16" (64GB, 4TB, 5600M) for about 3 months. It is connected to both an XDR display and 27" Thunderbolt Display and I have no heat or fan issues at all.
100% guaranteed more than 20%.Depends what actually real work bandwidth vs. Speed will be. If it's better than 5600m under mac os x.
Have to research. If it saved me 20% less render time it would be worth it.
Hardware. You can’t use the iGPU.I'm sure this has been talked about before, but I can't find it right now.
Is the fact that with an external display you can't force the use of the iGPU a hardware or software thing? I mean being able to simply use the iGPU always would solve our problem after all (as far the dGPUs power isn´t needed of course).
Surely it must be possible somewhere in the depths of the OS to completely disable the dGPU so that the device acts like a 13" MBP without a dGPU. Has anyone tried that in Windows device manager in Boot Camp?
