I can only speak for myself and say that I’ve experienced no such issues on my 2018 iPad. It’s performed much the same as my iPhone 8 Plus which has 3 GB of RAM. I generally don’t surf with more than 3 or 4 tabs open though.

On my Android phone I have at least 30 tabs open. On my iPad I have 15 tabs, on my iPhone currently 10. I tend to open a lot of tabs. On my work computer I have 2 Chrome browsers (each with 20 tabs) and 3 Firefox browsers (overall another 40 tabs open). On my desktop computer on top of this I also have around 10 open tabs in Opera.

My work is such that I always do at least 5 things in the same time. I get interrupted a lot so I leave a lot of open tabs and apps as a whole. Plus there are a lot of sites I visit constantly and I prefer to keep them open in my browser.

For the phone is not that big of deal but for the iPad it is. I do research quite often which includes google search and opening the first 1/2 pages of links in separate tabs and start reading them one by one. That is rather typical for me. I would scan the page and then whenever worth it I would generate PDF from it that I will import in GoodNotes for additional reading. It's how I use my iPad constantly so naturally the unresponsive Files app is a huge blocker for my productivity.

I know it's not happening, but I'd want:
- Face ID
- Gen. 2 Pencil support
- Pro-Motion screen

If you’re using your iPad that intensively for productivity it sounds like you’re who the Pro models are aimed at, not the entry level/budget model or Mini.

I tried to use it but as I saw that it would not work I now minimize the tabs being open ;). Of course that also minimizes my usage in general for the iPad as I am just into the regular tablet usage target group. Now I try to use OneDrive (comes with work) so that I can do research and multiple tabs on my computer and then I store whatever I want in OneDrive and then import it in GoodNotes via the iPad for the reading/annotating part.

Mini I would not buy for sure - you are right. There is nothing it can offer me. As for the Pro they cost as much as my powerful laptop that runs Windows on it and offers me more (has both SSD and regular HDD, supports up to 32 GB RAM, discrete video card, the possibility to extend monitors without having to install paid apps etc and lastly I have the apps I want to use available and my workflow is pretty setup and clear). And to top if it I don't like iOS that much (there are things I like, there are things I hugely dislike) so it does not make sense to invest in such device. It's better to wait few years when they have truly 2 in 1 laptops that I can use both for the research and the annotating/highlighting part. Or if they improve iOS but I doubt it as the things I dislike are more like fundamental part of iOS.

Nevertheless I just wanted to clear out this part about the RAM because honestly my mother uses her cheap Windows laptop to open 30 tabs. It's one of those things that a lot of people do, but they don't consider themselves power users. Whenever I was reading in forums, they would mention benefits of iPad Pros that makes complete sense if you are graphic designer, if you would use ProCreate/Affinity Designer/Photoshop and would talk about the processor, the ProMotion display and the speakers. I knew that those things are not important for me. No one mentions the fact that if you want to do some sort of multitasking (in the sense of using multiple apps at once and switching back and forth between them or having lots of tabs) you need the Pro.

Maybe the word browsing is too common. I guess some see this as having 4/5 tabs open and I see it as having multiple windows with multiple tabs open ;).

I know it's not happening, but I'd want:
- Face ID
- Gen. 2 Pencil support

They will do that with the next pro refresh in 2020 (or atleast they should)
[doublepost=1552390570][/doublepost]Like i said when i started the post, i just want a decent spec machine that can handle first gen apple pencil support. If there is no pencil support thats a total deal breaker for me, cause then i got everything i want and need in my current iphone.

If i can get a 64-128 gig wifi apple pencil supported A8-A10ish chip 2 gig of ram with cell for under 550, sold! if not then deal breaker for me!

I just want to use it as a mobil notepad and a larger screen to fly my drone with!

I want the iPad mini to be a phablet and an iPad Pro. It could be my phone and computer in one. I could afford 1 max spec device instead of a middling MacBook and middling iPhone.

Thinner liquid retina bezels with larger display (like 10.5" or 11" iPad scaling at 326ppi), 4GB RAM, 64/256/512GB, Apple Pencil 2 support and a good camera. $399 starting price. It would be for my five year old and I'd get her a tough case and ideally it last her 4-5 years. I only say camera because that's the primary thing she uses to take pictures and being a photographer myself I have been surprised by her aesthetic eye at such a young age. Though maybe at some point I will get her a cheap actual camera such as a Sony a6000. She has a Mini 2 that might last year another year or two but I'd prefer if I could pass that on to my son when he turns 3 this summer. She uses it primarily for PBS content, educational games, drawing, taking photos and for apps that help her practice writing. But I'd be willing to pay more for a solid little machine that would last her through most of elementary school. I believe towards the end of elementary school they get their own iPad at school.

That seems extremely likely.
Yeah I think they probably will. They specifically mentioned the iPhone 6 plus as a beneficiary of the enhancements of iOS 12, so I don't see them slowing it down even worse with a heavier iOS 13. I do wonder if the ipad mini 4 and iPad Air 2 - both with A8(X) but 2GB of RAM will survive? I would ordinarily say no, as it seems chipset generation usually informs iOS support, but they are still selling the Mini which makes me wonder.

Except for the devices that are still supported and running on 1GB.
2 GB will probably be fine for at least a few more years considering that such devices came out as recently as last year, and if I'm right in my guess, this year as well.

It’s not fine for every app though.

I only want 3gb of RAM to handle Procreate on the non Pro iPad(s - hopefully mini will get pencil support). The 2gb causes occasional freezes up and there’s a delay in strokes too.

I’ve noticed bottlenecks in simple tasks too.

For me, iPad Pros are out of the question until build materials & quality improves, including addressing the touch disease issues that pop up in every generation of the iPP.

A10 3gb RAM or better
Better speakers
Lighter weight
Touch ID 2
Waterproof
Maybes: pencil support, wireless charging, and more storage.

There’s pretty much no chance of this but I’d also like it to be smaller. The perfect small consumption device size for me was the Nexus 7 back in the day. Ideal width for grasping one-handed and reading for long periods. Wasn’t a fan of the 16:9 aspect ratio though.

I gave my iPad mini 4 to my DIL and while I love my iPad Pro I would get a lot of use away from home with pencil support. Since I have a first generation pencil sitting idle that would be good enough.

Perfection would be the ability to switch between iPad and iPhone versions of software so I wouldn’t need reading glasses when I’m out and about.

That's probably not up to Apple, but WhatsApp would be awesome.

Apart from that, USB-C and real stereo speakers are on top of the wish list.
Then comes the pencil and the iPhone 5 design, though I know how unlikely those are.

I still think the iPad Mini 4 and iPad Air 2 will be supported.

I think so too. The Mini 4 is still being sold at this moment and the updates have to extend long enough to still give a decent level of support to those devices bought at what we would consider 'Do Not Buy' times.

I'm leaning towards the Mini rather than the 9.7 for my upgrade at this moment so I would like to see a Rose Gold colour option, or at least the Gold found in the 6th Gen as it does have a pinky tint about it.

I'd be happy if it is the same design/screen as the Mini 4 with at least an A11 and 3 GB of RAM. I would probably upgrade from my Mini 4 for just that. My Mini 4 is still performing great, but no telling how it will handle iOS 13 and it seems likely that iOS 13 will be the end of the line for the Mini 4.

I already have a Mini 4 so the main thing that would make me want to upgrade to a Mini 5 is a bigger screen with smaller bezels (same form factor is fine). But it appears this will not happen as all signs point to the Mini 5 having the exact screen as the Mini 4 which makes it pointless to me since the Mini 4 is still fast enough for almost everything.

My iPad mini 5 wishlist, in order of importance (currently using Air 2, gave my mini 4 to son):

1. A11 processor or better (A10x would be acceptable, but I'd pass with an A9)
2. Laminated screen, maybe bigger display with smaller bezels
3. Stereo speakers in at least landscape mode
4. Face ID in landscape and portrait mode
5. USB-C
6. Headphone Jack
7. 3GB or more RAM
8. Fits with my old Mini 4 cases and smart covers
9. Wireless Charging
10. Keyboard case and pencil if form factor changes (I already have mini BT keyboards I rarely use)
11. Better cameras (rarely use the rear camera but I did FaceTime and Skype a bit)

I'd get an 11" Pro if it was a 8-9" Pro

I would like to see::

A refresh of the design, doesn't need a total overhaul, just a refresh.
Touch ID 2
An improved laminated screen, the res etc can be the same as the current model
True Tone possibly? But not if it will push the cost up too much
32GB starting storage
A10 chip A11 would be really nice but it depends if it means a higher cost
3GB Ram
latest bluetooth and 2X2 MIMO WiFi
Same camera as say the iPhone 7, same as the 8 would be nice
Not bothered about the Apple Pencil support but as the 9" cheap iPad has it the new Mini may as well too

I will look at the new iPad when it's in the stores.

I had a Nexus 7, used to put it in my pocket even, unfortunately I had a moment of stupidity and sold it, I really regret that. A fantastic device and I agree the size was great.

Absolutely need:
A11 or higher (I would consider anything less as a slap in the face by apple. A10 is already 2.5 generations old.)

Really want:
Pencil support
At least 3 GB ram
Laminated display

Nice to have:
New design from iPP
120 hz promotion display

I would prefer an iPad mini pro to a cheap iPad mini

Don’t hold your breath. I suspect it’s going to be a budget device, at least what Apple calls “budget”. I wouldn’t be surprised if it has an A10 and 2GB of RAM like the (for now) current non-Pro iPad.

That being said, those are still pretty capable specs. Presumably there are still people buying the Mini 4 with its A8 to this day. Those who are using the Mini 4 or older will consider the A10 quite an update.
