If they give the Mini 5 an A10 chip, that’ll be a lot like their treatment of the Mini 4, giving it an A8 when the iPad Air 2 got the A8X the year before. Unfortunately, I could see Apple doing that, and giving the iPad 7th generation an A11. Maybe they’d still give both of them 3 GBs of RAM.

I have the older iPad pro 10.5, and whilst I love it for taking notes in meetings, it just gets a bit too big and heavy. The mini with Apple pencil support would be perfect, and would also double up as a nice commuting device, as using a 10.5" iPad on the train becomes a bit of a task, nor is it really designed for reading eBooks/Magazines in portrait mode whilst commuting. I will miss the larger screen, but for most of my use cases, the Mini will be even better from a UX perspective.

If it doesn’t have a laminated display them I’m
Just going to hold onto my 4 for longer. The only thing that might make me consider upgrading is if it has Apple Pencil support.

I have to say it’ll be a bit of a cop out if they don’t have it, it’ll only be a profit gaining cost cutting measure if they do and even then at a stretch, because I can’t see it costing that much these days to do? Seeing as I think the iPad 2 or 3 had a laminated display, along with a plethora of other devices.

It’s not on the budget iPad/ entry level iPad anymore. They took it away. If the iPad mini is just going to be spec bump I can see them doing away with the laminated display.

I just hope it’s affordable, and that it’s released soon! I need to do some revamping with all my grandkids’ iPads, and I’m trying to wait on the new ones to be released so I can decide what to do. I’m definitely wanting to get a couple of minis for the younger grandkids, and I’ve been holding off...

What do I want? I want an ipad mini with a flat edged design, slimmer bezels & apple pencil 2 support, face ID & usb-c! What will we get? An ipad mini with the same design as the previous ipad mini only faster. Rumor has it Apple will go with a cheaper screen as well to keep the cost low. Still, i need a new one to update my 5 yr old ipad mini 2. Beggars can’t be choosey. Who knows tho. Maybe Apple will throw some suprises in.

Yeah, out if interest I was in the supermarket today shopping and took a look at the cheap iPad and it looked alright, you could tell their is a gap between the glass and display, but it looked perfectly fine.
And if it means a price of £250 ish. Well so be it!

Well £250 for an iPad is a steal lol

I'd like upgraded internals, Apple pencil support and a screen that doesn't develop touch sensitivity issues. Form factor is fine for me as is
^ THIS. So much this.

And 3GB of RAM.

The Touch ID on our 2018 iPads is pretty bad (The worst in any Apple product I’ve owned), mom is not a fan of hers (she wants another iPad 2). If the Mini gets all of the above with no chassis or display changes from the Mini 4, I’ll give mom this 2018 iPad and roll with the new Mini.

I plan to get one (cellular version) to replace our mifi hotspot, so it will mainly be used as a continuous hotspot to connect our mbp’s to the internet at home.

The other use is to download tv shows for offline viewing so we can watch them on our tv that has an appleTV 3 via AirPlay. I have a relative with a broadband connection that lives next to my office in town. My plan is to just stop there a few times a week, download the content to the mini, then have it on there for later watching later at home.

I’d like the new mini to be optimized for these two purposes :)

USB-C would be a bonus as we have a ton of Cables and chargers.

Why not just buy an external usb drive?

We need new hardware anyways for the hot spot as our current mifi is flaky, drops connections often, and has isn’t officially supported by our provider for our plan so it throttles our speed 2 GB sooner than it should. Rather than switch to the low end Android phone they use for hot spot plans, I’d rather use something iOS.

The secondary benifit is just grabbing the iPad to download new content on or to watch a show is faster than firing up a laptop.

I’m hoping the March 25th event brings changes to the TV app on iOS that make downloading content for offline viewing really convenient.

Just another week lads! I've come to terms with them offering only 2GB RAM for the Mini. I guess if the 2018 iPad still has it then it should be fine for a few more iOS releases from now. I've also checked prices for the iPad mini 4 128GB cellular on ebay, and they're still going for £300 on average (+ - £30), which isn't bad considering they're still selling them for £540 at the Apple store today. If I could sell the Mini 5 in a few years for 60% of the price I paid, then it' held on to it's value fairly well.

Just imagine though. An iPad Mini 7 that has no Bezels, wireless charging and Face ID, but is the same size as the current Mini. Now that would be an amazing device. Hopefully they make an SE like that too.

Curious to see what everyone thinks now that it is officially launched!
Didn't think, just ordered :p

A12 is decent, should last the 4 years till they upgrade it again. I'm okay with no chassis change, the 2015 mini was always ahead in that regard. Would obviously have liked Face ID / USB-C but that'll come next time I'm sure.

The main uses for my iPad Mini 2 was originally as a hotspot and also to use for car navigation by a passenger. It has worked quite well for car navigation as the big screen means that the passenger can see a lot more compared to a phone or standalone satnav.

I don't need it as a hotspot anymore as I can use my phone for that.

I want to use the iPad mini for email, trading, Twitch, YouTube, videos, twitter and writing but it's gotten too slow for that so an iPad Mini 5 with a good processor would really help.

I think so many are just relieved to see them keeping the mini in the lineup! I know I don’t need one, but dangit, now I WANT one!

Well, looks like it’s close up there with the pros - A12 when the pros have A12X. Should be a zippy little thing!

Wow, so happy!! )ust ordered a cellular 256GB. That’s the ONLY thing I was a little unhappy about as I only needed 128gb, but whatever..... better too much than too little.

Me...having the 12.9 pro, (i love it, but it is never leaving my desk due to the bending issue, plus to me its just too dam big not to be used in anything other then a laptop type of configuration which i will be doing the moment my Brydge Keyboard for it is out)

But i want a more portable ipad for on the go for taking notes and flying my drone, so im deff looking forward to the rumored Ipad Mini 5.

If its the same form factor with just a upgraded processor and has pencil support, then its a done deal especially if i can get a 128 gig cell version for under 500 dollars...

HOWEVER if it doesn't have pencil support to me thats a huge deal breaker, because then i could just use my current iphone (xs Mas) for all the same functionality.

I want a device i can keep in a large vest pocket, pull out to make quick sketches and notes, and slap into my drone controller to fly a drone with and i'm really hoping apple can do that.

What do you want from the rumored mini 5?

So I guess you're buying it

Very happy. Kind of a best-case scenario in updating and modernizing the Mini without changing an extremely loved form factor. The price, while not amazing, feel fair for what you’re getting. I ordered one.
