I think the 'second half of May' may have been simply because they did not know with absolutely certainty when their supply chain would be totally ready. Given chip shortages and the impact of the pandemic in their suppliers, this probably wouldn't be surprising when they announced the new iMacs.

By the time preorders opened, it had become a little more clear, but even then, the fact that customers were (and are) being given a delivery target several days wide, suggests that it has been logistically problematic this time around.

But I would expect those being notified of delivery prior to 21st May finding their shipments held. It's entirely possible I will be proved wrong, but that's been Apple's practice in the past, and UPS and FedEx have seemed happy to comply.
We are going to find out very soon.

I'm still sitting in Processing, delivery May 21-27. I've seen some folks report shipments with the same config as mine ordered (blue/16GB/1TB), frustrating.

Now I know why I've never advance-ordered a new Apple product before. ;)

Well my order was showing tracking info earlier this morning. Just checked after getting out of work and now FedEx says tracking number not found….

EDIT: it appears their entire tracking system is down

WE DID IT!!!
I was thinking the same thing!

On a separate note, has anyone done a FedEx vacation hold? It is possible I might be away the dates provided for estimated delivery and wondering peoples’ experiences with that feature.

Hoping this is the flight that some of our iMacs are on. Seems to match up time wise and is a typical route into North America that we’ve seen with iPhone pre orders.

For me, pre-Covid any special request or hold I requested with FedEx was awesome. Holds, send to a FedEx store, change date, etc. all great. Since covid they’ve been a mess (at least for me). About 2 months ago I saw the delivery date for a $2,000 guitar I was having shipped from Japan, which required a signature and requested a hold because I knew I wouldn’t be there. When I get home the guitar box is just leaning up against my garage door. Last summer they dropped a $1200 pool heater (that weighed close to 100lbs) at my mailbox. My mailbox is about 100 yards from my house. At least around here, they have been horrible with everything. Of course, YMMV.

My tracking info has the exact same info down to the times. Where is yours being shipped to. Mine is going to NYC.
