This is quite literally the same type of discussion and concern that bubbles up about this time, in this thread, every single year. And just like every year prior, if Apple says you’ll receive your new device on the 16th, you 100% will receive your new device on the 16th - independent of your status in Apple’s system or whether you have a tracking number or not.

I’m in the same boat, and have been most every year: pre-ordered within a minute or two of pre-order window opening and still sitting in Preparing to Ship with a delivery date of September 16 by Standard Delivery. I expect at some point today to see that status update, but have seen it update as late as the day before. Some time between now and delivery, I’ll receive a tracking number (just curious how so many have tracking numbers already - but not at all worried about my device). Every year, they deliver on the stated date. And if for some reason they didn't, the world would stills-in. I'd be just fine using my 13 Pro another day. 😂

So in case you aren’t already, breathe easy. Yours will be here Friday. 😉

Could they’ve gotten it screwed up and the iPhone 14 is coming this friday and I’ll have to wait in the pro max until the 23rd? The only reason I doubt is because I tracked by order number not by phone number but it still seems odd that’s there’s nothing for the regular 14 which is scheduled to come Friday.

If you don't see even the 4 digit tracking on Track by Reference, I would call Apple to confirm.
