I don't know about that, but from what I read, there was some sort of toe injury that he tried to get ahead of but failed. What sort of personality concerns were there?

Some of his stats are certainly down for 2022 over 2021 but they seem to be more of his rushing. His passing stats don't look horrible, though there's a big uptick in sacks and his rushing yards is rubbish.

I don't know if his ceiling his high or low, but either way its a moot point. Teams let him slide till the 2nd round and Tenn. picked him up

I don't know, the article I read didn't specifiy. So, for what it's worth.

I figured he would drop though. There was Young, Stroud, Richardson...then everyone else.

I did some googling and nothing specific seems to be mentioned. What's odd is some of the articles I read had projected him as a 2nd round pick. While many people had him going in the first round, I think he should have declined the invitation and stayed home - that would have avoided the embarrassment being on camera has team after team skipped him

The Jets are a.ready penciling in a SUper Bowl. But they aren't better than the Chiefs. I don't even know if they are as good as the Bills.

I understand why the Packers didn't want Rodgers in the NFC, but he isn't a Top 5 QB in the AFC like he was in the NFC.

From what I heard on some sports talk shows, he didn't interview very well and he was cocky. Which is supposedly why Indy took Richardson over Levis. Both needed some things fixed, but Richardson was more humble meaning he will take coaching better.

Indy took Richardson, with visions of Lamar in their heads. But I don't think Richardson has the arm that Lamar has to go with the running.

A qb is only as good as his receivers and offensive line and backs, it takes a team. Rodgers is a pocket qb whose history is much longer than those mentioned combined.

Agreed. That said, do you think the Jets have the support for Rodgers that will enable them to beat the Chiefs, Ravens, Bills, Bengal, et al? I don't.

Interesting to read some of the reactions to the draft. Obviously the teams with top-5 picks got people to be excited about, but there was also quite a bit of positivity around the Seahawks who seem to have leveraged the picks they got for Russel Wilson into a lot of supporting personnel for Geeno Smith.

But he is faster than Lamar. And 2" taller.

To be honest I think the Patriots are in a bad place for the next few years. The whole team is missing a number of pieces, it just looked unconvincing and they will be lucky to end up serving as filler in the play-offs while better teams collect the silverware. I’m surprised they are not choosing to tank for 3-4 years in order to restock the talent pool.

Agreed, they are going to go through several bad years before they become relevant again.

The Pats won't be relevant again until they get a QB. Mac Jones isn't it. I know this, as a fan of the Bills. The Bills - good enough to not pick high every year, bad enough to not make the playoffs for 20 years. Perpetual 7-9, 6-10 seasons. I see it in the Pats, Belichick or no Belichick.

The QB is only one piece though. They haven’t had a decent WR corps for years, and you can only do so much with the running game without decent receivers and a passing game to play it off. The tight ends are also unspectacular compared to the best in the league. I just don’t see them putting together a competitive team without 3-4 top-quality talents, and those are rare and hard to find.

I may decide to follow the Seattle Seahawks next year… with all the new guys they might have an exciting season.

Mac Jones isn't it
Mac Jone's rookie year showed that he could be "it" It really depends on whether having an actual QB coach and offensive coordinator will help Jones. There seems to be a lot of bad blood between him and Belichick as well. This isn't unusual, just consider how Bradshaw and Chuck Knoll got along (or didn't). We'll see how things pan out this season

I think its very possible that the Pats put up solid numbers, the issue for them, and its a new issue is that the AFC is probably the most competitive division in NFL. In years past the Pats was the only good team in that division and they had their way.

Regardless of what Beane states about how the Bills are built for the long haul, Josh Allen's contract is going to start hurting them after this season. His contract is going to be 47 million in cap space in 2024 and it only gets worse after that

I don't know, a big contract doesn't seem to be hurting KC. The NFL is still a drafting league, where a big contract for a QB doesn't hurt that much. No one builds a championship on having cap space for free agents. If any of that mattered, KC, Buffalo, Cinci, LA Chargers and Baltimore would be out of the running.

Draft well, get a good QB and fill holes with lower level free agents is how you win a championship.

The 2023 NFL schedule has been released and I'm a little surprised at how it seems that the first ten teams have what could be percieved as the hardest schedule.

Strength of schedule for all 32 NFL teams: Which teams have the hardest, easiest schedule for 2023?
Here is a breakdown of the NFL's strength of schedule rankings when looking at the collective record of their opponents in 2022.

So it looks like the weaker teams are also playing weaker opposition? That seems a little screwy.
It has been that way for a long time. 1st vs 1st, 2nd vs 2nd, 3rd vs 3rd and 4th vs 4th.

From the horse's mouth

Here’s a breakdown of how each team’s opponents are set:
  • Six games against divisional opponents — two games per team, one at home and one on the road.
#1 Patriots vs AFC East.
  • Four games against teams from a division within its conference — two games at home and two on the road.
#2 Patriots vs AFC North, South or West
  • Four games against teams from a division in the other conference— two games at home and two on the road.
#3 Patriots vs NFC North, East, South or West
  • Two games against teams from the two remaining divisions in its own conference — one game at home and one on the road. Matchups are based on division ranking from the previous season.
#4 3rd place Patriots vs 3rd place team of AFC division they didn't play in #1 or #2
  • The 17th game is an additional game against a non-conference opponent from a division that the team is not scheduled to play. Matchups are based on division ranking from the previous season.
#5 3rd place Patriots vs 3rd place NFC division they didn't play in #3

NFC East and AFC East are all in the top 10 because they face each other this year. NFC East has a 43 combined win and AFC East as 37 combined wins. Add insult to injury, they face the Chiefs (14 wins) and Chargers (10 wins) too. Dat's rough.

Sounds like a good opportunity for teams from weaker divisions to put together a good regular-season record and make it to the play-offs. But it’s stacking the deck pretty severely against some of the better teams, it seems you need a bit of luck in this, is it a draw which determines who faces who?
