We can only hope. I''m tired of these street events. Get rid of them all and go back to real tracks. That includes Monaco.

Monaco used to be good, it was fun watching races in the wet, but now the cars are so big it is a bit of a train going round.

I’ve seen quite a few videos on social media from people from Las Vegas who are showing the true view of how disruptive this race is to the city. Palm trees cut down, fountains drained and huge metal cladding over the foot bridges for ‘safety reasons’ (yeah right). The dishonesty of F1 obscuring views in a public place is ridiculous. Monaco accept that a significant proportion of spectators will not have paid and that is the price you pay for holding a race in a public place. Hopefully this will be the second and last race for this venue and we can see proper purpose built tracks returning to the calendar in future. Most of the iconic landmarks from Las Vegas have been hidden anyway. Ridiculous.

Vegas doesn’t have any iconic landmarks, it’s just gambling and hotels and silly tourist attractions. In the middle of a desert.

Anyway it’s a stupid race, literally built purely to pander to the American market and try and boost money from viewers in the US. Which was never needed with a perfectly good US track being on the calendar for ages now. Just find another track! Plenty in the US to use, but no they want all the glitz and glamour of Vegas and to put on a show, I bet PLENTY of backhanders went around to secure a spot for Vegas on the calendar.

When I say ‘iconic’ I am referring to recent history, linked with films and popular culture. I appreciate it is all for show and tourism. A stop-off for American servicemen on their way to the west coast and inflated by the mafia gave us an adult Disneyland designed to rinse us of money. Having said that I can sort of see a similarity to Formula One.

Watching interviews from yesterday and the big questions aimed at Red Bull seemed to be about Checo’s future. The warm answers about how loved he is at the team and how they are happy as he’s second in the championship are all too familiar when teams are pretty much confirming a driver is leaving. It all feels shallow and over the top when we all know they’ll announce he’s been dropped in a few weeks time. The news will probably come just before Abu Dhabi.

Question is who will replace him?

Another Number Two driver. There isn't really anyone one the current grid who can realistically challenge Max for the DWC (expect perhaps Alonso, and I don't think he'd want the gig), so it's all about consolidating the CWC too. Checco just hasn't been good enough for most of the season, in the best car. Now it's probably not quite the best car, or at least nowhere near as far ahead as the other teams, RB will need a talented driver who can just get the job done and not cause waves. So I think it'll be a younger, cheaper driver who will get the second RB seat if and when Checo leaves.

George Russel? Just a wild thought...

Pretty sure there is a better than Max in F2/F3 right now, but everyone hates F2/F3, everyone wants tired old men driving instead of faster youth.. why do we want old age pensioners in F1? Alonso, Hamilton, Bottas..Come on, F1 is no place for a retirement for old men..

A bold claim. Who? Any such talent is going to be trouncing the opposition repeatedly; who in F2/3 is currently doing that?

As well as being quite ageist, it's also stupid. Alonso is still one of the very best drivers in motorsport full stop, and Hamilton is still very very fast. Bottas is and was a journeyman; a driver happy to trundle around and get a few wins, but to pick up the fat paycheck and have fun. Many drivers are like this; Webber, Barrichello, Raikkonen, Button, etc. No shame in that. Stick a load of fresh-faced kids with no experience into F1 cars, and you'd have utter carnage. Max had gained the necessary experience to win at a very early age. That's why he's head and shoulders above the rest. Stick him in F2/3, and he'd likely win every race.

Who?? F2/F3... Exactly.. we have no idea as F2/F3 is not broadcast to the same degree as F1.. It is hard to know anyone from F2/F3, and those that want to move on, are forced either into sim driving or getting a 3rd driver role.. It is not ageism, there is a natural age for which it is time to move on, late 30's... Time to move into single seater Le Man/8/24 hour roles...

Each team makes the driver choice they think is best, that is their right, but are they in fact making the best choice, everyone is having a pity party for Perez, what about Drugovich, and a couple other F2 really great drivers that are either 3rd drivers/seat warmers, or racing across the pond..or in DTM? F1 should be ruthless, when last have we heard of a driver such as Brundle for example, mid season, fired for this or that reason? Perez should be fired, he cannot deliver, he is a great driver, but F1, maybe not.. F1 is about safety, and maybe he is not safe, last week not safe.. Expensive mistake... budgets are tight now.. Anyway it does not matter, he will be in F1 next year...

Right...

It is not ageism
It actually, literally, is.

there is a natural age for which it is time to move on, late 30's
Whilst things like reaction times, physical fitness etc are crucial to be able to drive safely in F1, and do deteriorate with age, as long as a driver is still meeting the demanding requirements, there's no need for them to retire. If Alonso, Hamilton or whoever meet these requirements, then why should they step down?

I think Alonso and Hamilton would disagree with that statement as would anybody who is watching these greats perform at the highest level. As long as they are fit and competitive, age doesn’t matter. These cars are a lot less physical to drive than 30+ years ago and we have some very worthy older drivers on the grid. Perez certainly isn’t too old to be racing in F1.

💯 This is not the way to do it for a town like vegas. A very silly way to do it. I like the combination of city street circuits and real race tracks but not like this.

BTW also don’t like the Brasil track. Yuck.

Agreed. I thought the idea was great to have it in Vegas for the USA. And it’s a circus and a damn good show. It’s a shame to see the execution simply missing the point entirely.

I don’t think appreciate how big of a step up it is from the F2/F3 cars and races to F1.

DeVries was fired. Daniel Riciardo was fired mid season as well.

And ofcourse you can watch it if you want. I see them all the time trackside. They are also on Sky and F1 TV.

“The Dishonesty of F1” is the takeaway here……….

How can any F1 driver consider any result in a Sprint valuable? It is like winning in a mom's 100m race at a kindergarten fundraiser... It is a joke.. This sprint was a joke.. Why risk the car for what is a pointless exercise.. Yes I get that maybe 3x Free Practice maybe boring, especially what to do for a late Saturday afternoon... You need something, ok, Sprints.. ok, great, why not at least try a 3rd car, in parc ferme from Jan 1st.. Teams get to choose 1 of 10 cars, random, for each Sprint race in which there is no F2/F3 scheduled.. All cars are the same, and only for the 3rd/rookie driver.. 45 minutes, 1 pit stop...Max was so far ahead in the race, he got bored and was manufacturing issues just to keep from dozing off.. Lando was a week behind, and $1m short...

Then don't watch it ;) Nobody is forcing you to watch it if you don't like it. I'm enjoying sprint races, really helps to make something of the entire weekend.

I think Esteban Ocon owes Alonso an apology after calling him an 'idiot' (over team radio) following their collision. Which was 100% caused by Ocon losing control at the corner, and having a tankslapper which then propelled him into Alonso. Alonso was well off the racing line, so the only idiot here is Ocon.

Post Sprint interview with Lando was fun when he opined that “he had more power’ than the RBRE/Honda in Max’s RB19.
Norris needs to lean a bit of humility; being an arrogant rich kid might be a laugh to him, but he needs to put his money where his mouth is. He lost the sprint race from pole. So much for his boasts. 🤣

The drivers seem pretty critical of sprints but probably just accept it’s part of the commercial obligation associated with F1 and pit on for certain audiences. I’ve watched one sprint race and that was enough to know I can ignore them going forward, I prefer the traditional format of qualifying and the race and that’s all I am interested in reviewing.

I think Interlagos will again demonstrate how far ahead Red Bull are, as it’s a fast and flowing track. The real excitement will be behind them as usual. Only a couple of races left.
