To me I kind of have feeling probably my computer was already done with the M1, but since apple announce the M3 so they shipped from Thailand, to China so they could upgrade it from the M1 to the M3 that is always a possible since if was already done then it should of shipped from Thailand instead china, but it shipped from china. I could be wrong

I have two shipments from Apple. One is obviously the trade in box (only around 4 lbs). But the other I guess is the M3 iMac (around 20 lbs) listing the delivery as tomorrow (Tuesday 11/7) but it says it is coming from CARLISLE, PENNSYLVANIA! Didn't know that Apple builds or finishes the building of new iMacs in Pennsylvania LOL!
Anyway - at least it does still say delivery tomorrow as I planned on staying home from work for the delivery.

Cool if they have a facility there (perhaps similar to how previous BTO iMac have shipped from Apple's plant in Cork, Ireland?). Although, I'd be more surprised if it was coming from Carlisle, Cumbria! 🙃

Ordered a green M3, 24/512, to replace my mid-2010 i5. Delivery three weeks out.

I’ve been a Mac user since 1984. This will be my fifth Macintosh: 1990 LC, 1997 LC475, 2004 eMac, 2010 iMac, 2023 iMac.

You held out longer than I managed! My 2010 i5 basically ground to a halt at the end of 2018, fans wheezing like a broken steam train. Had to upgrade to a 2019 5K i5 model, which was so much better but it too gave up the ghost a couple of weeks ago (the telltale was Safari taking far too many bounces to launch…) and Disk Utility almost wouldn't reinstall macOS as it said the SSD needed replacing – luckily got it booting enough of the way to qualify for  Trade-in!

My family used to have a Performa 475 – my first experience of the Mac. Have used Apple computers ever since 😃

Hope your green iMac (wish they still gave the colours more interesting names, like back in the first age of iMac) is lovely and serves you well for many years 🖥️

What dose everyone think- I said my iMac box says it was made in Thailand and I ordered it with the M1 chip, since wasn’t shipped yet apple was nice enough to upgrade it to the M3.

do you think it was already made in Thailand then shipped it china to upgrade to the M3, since it was shipped from china not Thailand

No. Apple makes thousands of these. They don't 'upgrade' anything manually.

The box says made in Thailand but was shipped from china- to me that is kind off made in Thailand, but shiped from china

I'm not sure how that negates or impacts what I said. Perhaps you can clarify a little more about what you mean by 'upgrade'. They simply changed your order from M1 to M3, and shipped your M3 from wherever they source them, whether CN or TH.

I actually ordered the M1 version of iMac and since it was not shipped yet and the M3 keynote was coming up and after that apple informed me that the upgrade my order to the new M3
you see is when I first placed the order then the M3 event was October 30 then at 12am Apple sent a email saying

As you may know, Apple recently announced the new iMac. Since your order has yet to ship, we automatically upgraded you to the new iMac at no additional cost.

then I get a emailing saying the order is on the way - look at the order and system configuration on both orders

I’m pleased I got the M3

I hope that clarifies it apple upgraded my order

I don’t really care where it was made, but I just thought it was strange the box says made in Thailand but was shipped from China

Apple's shipping and logistics are among the best in the world. I'm sure they have an SAP or SAP-like system that has long since figured out the most efficient way to ship things. If for that particular set of machines it was to ship from TH to CN to you, that's what was the most cost- or time-efficient for Apple.

I picked mine up at the store so I don't know where it came from other than it saying on the box it was made in Thailand.

I realized that the empty trade in box would come from Carlisle and that the return of the trade in would also go there, but this is the first time I saw an iMac (or even an iPhone or iPad) come from there.

Are most people still finding that their iMac shipped with Ventura? Did you set it up as new, update it to Sonoma, and then wipe it before starting the migration process?

I set up my iMac M3 as new with Ventura, then updated to Sonoma and migrated my data as usual, "by hand". I didn't feel like formatting, I think it was a very clean procedure considering that the Mac was discarded without ever having used it.

Curious about mine then. Looks like they have plenty of stock with SSDs preloaded with Ventura then.

Blue, 512GB SSD, 24GB RAM, 8 CPU core/10 GPU cores… scheduled for Nov 29-Dec 1
I was assuming mine would have an older macOS than Sonoma (after the early reports) ... I picked it up from the store after ordering right away ... and it came with Sonoma! Btw, mine is the base model.
