I enjoyed seeing replays of today's table tennis team match between Sweden and Japan. Having played a lot as a recreational activity in my younger days, it was most interesting to watch such high quality play.

Somewhere I read that both of Sweden's players are professionals who play in pro table tennis leagues around the world.

I’m not the person to really answer this, as I don’t follow table-tennis at all, but as a Swede it’s impossible to avoid the very good tradition of ’pingis’, we’ve had with plenty of success in championships earlier with J-O Waldner and Jörgen Persson. Good that Truls now keep it up.
Their professional whereabouts I can’t answer though - google is your friend.

I used to play with my brother on our table in our cellar as a kid- especially in the darker side of the year - until I got more engaged in football/soccer instead, and he in swimming.
I suppose I was not the only one who did/do that in our country.

One thing that has surprised me about these Olympics is how much rain Paris has been getting. Much of Europe has been sweltering for days even weeks in very very weather and every time I watch the highlights (is on when I am at work so watch the highlights when at home) it always seems to be raining (heats or finals), the road race cycling, the triathlon, the horse events, many of the athletics. It should be renamed to the Summer Rain Olympics lol

that was fantastic.....as was Cole Hocker's win in the 1500m
That was a lucky gold for Cole Hocker because no offense to Hocker he did not stand a chance of winning a gold, not with arguably two of current best 1500m runners in the field, Kerr and Ingrebrigsten. It was expected gold and silver for either one of the two and everyone else would be battling for bronze but as it turned out, both Kerr and Ingrebrigsten appeared to be so engrossed in the tactics of each other that they forgot about the rest of the field, allowing the two Americans to beat them and get medals.

It was a good race but lets be honest here, if Kerr and Ingrebrigsten had not been so pig headed in fighting against each other and just ran their normal race, Hocker would have come in 3rd.

Not just a lucky gold, but also in an Olympic record time for the 1500m.

Ingrebrigsten, for all the attention he had received, didn't even medal.

And yes, Ingrebrigsten's strategy dictated how the race was run and its failure certainly helped Hocker to win the gold.

Edit: I would also add that some events just need to go away.
Before today, I would have argued obscure sports should get a chance to shine. Now that I learned breakdancing is an Olympic sporto_O, I full agree. How the heck is this an Olympic sport?
If the average viewer doesn't know what an event is or what the rules are then it probably isn't popular enough to carry its own weight.
Gen X-ers knows breakdancing. That's the dance of our generation. How do you objectively judge breakdancing? Unless one dancer is leagues better, it's subjective who's the better dancer.

I remember reading an article about the Olympics and breakdancing when it was in it's infancy being talked about. It's argument for being included in the Olympics was down to the artistic floor routine which forms part of gymnastics many disciplines. It was said if such a discipline can be part of the Olympics, why cannot breakdancing which itself is artistic in nature which involve elements of turns and twists with varying levels of difficulty, much like what is found in the tumbles, jumps, turns and twists you see in the gymnastic artistic floor routine.

Gymnastic artistic floor routine involves varying levels of difficulty of body movement just as breakdancing does. I cannot remember who put forward the compelling argument but you have to admit is was a very good one.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen was successful on 5000m though 😁🥇

Can’t say that I knew about these guys before the Olympics, but they are really good 🥇
Ah well, we hang on the beach all year around, so no wonder 🥶
Lucky us, it’s an indoor sport, it explains it all.

That is approx. 1 medal/million citizens - 69 million ppl, 65 medals
Sweden have a bit better percent - 10 million ppl, and 11 medals ☺️
I’m still awed by Duplantis’ performance utterly amazing and made me feel a bit better about sport and the Olympics.

This gymnastics issue is becoming a bigger mess every day.

And one reason I nudged the offspring towards swimming vs a sport where judges determine the outcome.

Australia's best olympics yet, 18 gold 53 overall, 4th, was coming 3rd till Japan overtook us overnight.

Except for the break dancer lol she's copping it here. Embarrassing, heads gotta roll.

And the winner is... what th!?

Over 19 days of Olympic events, one swimming final was my absolute favorite. It's just wonderful to see a winner so overjoyed and amazed at their own accomplishment. It added to the fun that the American announcers were so busy talking about the Americans and the favored Australian that they missed what was going on, including not realizing who won for a split second after the race ended. Not to mention that it was an "older" athlete who hadn't even been sure about entering the event.

Watch the race and followup interview on YouTube.

That was a great race.

Did you see Duplantis (also from Sweden) win the Pole Vault and then get the WR. Also a great moment.

Armand Duplantis and Karsten Warholm will meet in a sprint duel.
Swedish media reported this today.
What has previously only been rumors is now completely official.
On September 4th in Zurich, two of the largest athletics stars will hit together to duel in a 100-meter race.

I look forward to how this will go - my bet is on Mondo.
But Karsten Warholm missed the godl at the Olympics, and ’only’ got the silver, so I bet he’s motivated as well.

I saw an interview where Mondo mentioned that his PB on 100 meters was "about 10.5 seconds" from when he was 18 (6 years ago). In pole vaulting the run up is about 45 meters, and he's one of the fastest in the sport, so he should probably have an edge as a sprinter over Warholm.

He also mentioned that his main goal after the Olympic gold is now to learn to use starting blocks and eventually try to help the rest of the Swedish running team to beat the national record on the 4x100 m relay (38.63 seconds, set at the 1996 Olympics). He's clearly determined to win.
