From reading articles it seems Lewis is starting simulator testing on Monday (20/01) at Maranello and then on Wednesday he is taking part in a 'wake up test' where he'll drive the F1-75 from 2022 at Fiorano. I would imagine Ferrari have totally different layouts, although I am sure Lewis will be able to dictate this for his own preferences in 2025. The Italian fans have certainly taken to Lewis by the sounds of things which is cool considering how hated he used to be there in his McLaren days.

While they have different setups for the cars, they really need to get the SF-25 correct on the first try. Lewis is hyper sensitive to his seating position in relation to the front axel. I don't see Ferrari doing a Red Bull and treating Charles like a Sergio. I think Ferrari is taking a huge risk with the amount of changes they have made to the SF-25.

I don't see Charles being a Bottas. His temperament is much closer to Rosberg. It could get spicy out there.

Hopefully it's equal treatment and they let them fight, but Lewis has cost them about 4 times more than Charles so it'll be interesting to see how it is managed.

So this may interest some people here. Some of you may know I built an iOS app that does motorsport timetables. Calendars and weekend schedules for almost every race series in the world (over 150 now - aiming for 250). Fully customisable notifications and a customisable calendar so it's just the series you're interested in.

For 2025 I've added streaming capabilities to the app. It now streams around 100 series live in the app itself. Any series which allows it (legal, and technical) can be watched within the app. There's also a tab called What's On, which is every session (qualifying, race), of every series, unfiltered. If none of your series are racing that weekend and you just want to watch racing, you can check What's On and it'll give you a full list of what's happening - you can also filter by streaming so you know what's watchable in the application.

The streaming supports Picture in Picture, and AirPlay.

This weekend there's around 15 streams happening. Formula 4 Middle East, Formula Regional Middle East, GT Winter Series, GT4 Winter Series, Prototype Winter Series, and 24H Series 6 Hours of Dubai.

By the time we get to April there will probably be 20-40 streams each weekend.

Charles is Ferrari's future (they signed him through 2028) so push comes to shove, Charles is going to get the priority.
I don’t think Ferrari want to be in a position where it gets so difficult they have to prioritise a younger driver over a driver they’ve paid £200m for and demoting to a number 2. They’ve just got to hope one driver is either consistently better than the other or they are both competitive and get on well. Always difficult and Lewis has experience of these situations before. He was hot headed in his youth against Fernando but played the calm and calculated teammate and let Rosberg get upset a few years later. He’s even older again now and never seemed to let his emotions show with George. I just hope we see a good and respectful partnership and Lewis gets a good few more wins to his incredible tally before he retires. He’s lucky really at this point because although there’s expectations and he’s likely pressuring himself somewhat, he’s already done it before.

Which version of Bottas? Not the 2021 Santa version..gifting presents to Red Bull at every race? Bottas loved giving points to Max in 2021.. 3 times, and well that cost driver of car 44 a title.. Hopefully Charles is more Scrooge than Santa Clause.. or a clause in his contract might see him unemployed..

Saw some wild rumours this morning suggesting Aston Martin are considering a $1bn deal for Verstappen making it the biggest deal in the history of the sport. A Newey designed car with Stroll as a teammate might be very tempting I would say, although I don't believe any driver is worth $200m a year, but whatever gets the deal I suppose.

It would be cool if it were to happen. I’ll happily wear Aston Martin green 😇😎

I saw that and I don't believe a word of it.. What that says is that there is no one, of the 8 billion people on the planet that can think.. That the only human capable of success is 1 person, who may or may not even be alive.. Or care.. You think Stroll is going to be happy with some random dude getting $1billion and he is not...

It is a combination of the team, and to get a good team together, you need to dig in your wallet. Lawrence Strulović doesn't really have the net worth to do that himself, unless he wants to give up a quarter of his wealth. I'm sure he can put a SPAC together for it.

Even if there were only 4 cars in the entire season, Aston Martin and William's.. The AM would finish 3rd and 4th.. Newey is not going to turn cow dung into fillet steaks...

When you look at that number £1b, think about how that is not going into lower formula, into growing talent, for example female talent, not only drivers, but principles, engineers, all aspects, £1b could fund education for decades, it could fund maybe a development team in F3, but really does an F1 driver need £1b, it consumes resources that is not being spent wisely.. Old men are old, why not invest this in younger talent, for at least the next 20 yrs, age 20 to 40.. No one needs or could hope to spend £1b...as they have loads of other income streams...

It is stupid to waste money on old men.. they don't need it.. if they do, money does not solve money problems...

By the time the red cows have chewed through his best yrs, he will feel like a 2nd hand leather sofa... Not worth $100m...

I think we need to wait and see how Ferrari plays out Team Rules in 2025. I certainly hope Lewis is not given preference due to his persona. I don't see Charles giving an inch to him. However, we are discussing Ferrari. I think it's entirely possible that they manage Team Rules like McLaren and we end up in a mess.

So yea, I see Charles racing Lewis like Rosberg, not Santa Bottas.

I doubt Charles will give in to Lewis under any circumstance.. More likely to do a Button Canada 2011 than not crash.. By Santa I meant that 2021 season in which Santa brought Lewis presents in Spain, Portugal, Bahrain.. Presents that Lewis really really did not want, but had to accept, cause he is a great guy...

Charles+Lewis is going to only end in tears.. Racing like Rosberg, in which Rosberg beat Lewis to a title then promptly quit???

He quit at the top of his career. Can't fault that. Especially if you look at his success with Rosberg Ventures, and TRE-Gmbh. I doubt he has any regrets. Not every driver wants to stick around watch the elephants spin in circles at the circus.

I see F1 drivers as caged lions, forced to dance on command.. They are subject to a lot of really stupid rules, I love the term "tinpot dictator" that perfectly sums up the leadership of the FIA.. We have lost the art of driving, the art of battle.. Races/careers ruined by stupid illogical overly complex and complicated rules/decisions...

It makes sense for the 17, 18, 19 yr old driver to want to be in F1, to get a pot of money, have a laugh.. But to put up with the clowns running the big top.. There is no ring master.. Never was.. I am more vested in the drama, the comedy of F1.. To be honest, the most sane rational, sensible formula, 3.. F3.. F1 is/has become almost a giant flex by a couple of people.. Look at AM.. We can spend $1b on a driver... We don't care if we don't win.. We can spend spend spend..

I wonder if F1 should revert to a less regulated, more open formula, in which you race what you bring.. You get to choose your tyre brand, the "witches" brew for fuel, the gearbox.. 100% driver operated, the PHD's in the UK, at the far end of the ethernet cable, can make suggestions, but cannot do anything..

But the thing I want to see banned, more than anything, is spying.. I want radio comms car-pit to be secure..Every team has a secure channel..So that race strategy can be planned, discussed without fear of eavesdropping...More a moral thing.. I guess..

What makes no sense in 2024/2025 and onwards is the lack of a live youtube free stream.. If you want the top tier commentary, you pay for this via your provider, SKY etc.. But for the cheap seats, you get the F1 team commentary...

My local broadcaster here, bankrupt and cannot find any cash, they always pay $ for a $$ event, as a result we often get weird broadcasts, by weird I mean, we can hear the comms team, talk about this or that, but here all we see is a wide shot, this is very obvious in Indycar/Nascar.. But sometimes in F1.. It is brutal in Indy500.. Cut to wide, for 10 or 15 minutes, you hear just the cars.. and commentary discussing some trackside crash replay.. We see 0% of that...

Not sure if F1 understands the business of F1.. It is an advert that uses the tools of racing to promote brands.. I am watching the AO, Australian Open, I count maybe 13 or 14 brand names plastered on the walls, floor of the courts... That is free advertising for the brands.. Make this free to air.. You have reliable data that you can prove who logs in, from where, and when, and for how long...But F1 limit this to the "broadcasters" and their own internal system..

F1 is becoming overly corrupt and basically bizarre.. From where it was in the 1970-1990 era.. You could not wait for Sunday.. Adverts played, and you swore at the tv, hurry up, cut to the live.... I miss that...

Considering how much you carp about drivers overstaying their welcome, I would think you would approve of Rosberg getting his WDC, accepting he will not get a second, and immediately stepping aside for someone new.

The AO is "free" to air because the broadcaster paid a mint for the rights, just like they used to pay for F1. And those advertisers paid a mint to be positioned where they are on that court.

Live F1 has always been a paid option in the US as it has only been carried on cable*. First ESPN, then Speedvision/Speed Channel/Speed, the Fox Sports, then NBCSN and now back on ESPN. Before ESPN, F1 was on "Wide World of Sports" on ABC with a few minutes of coverage of only the biggest races (Monaco, Spa, Monza) and then just 30 mins (f that) of "highlights".

And even with it requiring cable, ABC does broadcast some of the "biggest" races free to air in the US, just as NBC and FOX did.

* - ESPN+ is now an option for those who do not have a cable package and therefore do not get ESPN, but even that is just a select number of races.

We don't know if he would have done the 2nd title.. You know maybe in 2021, Lewis might have had a title.. Nico might have done the 2nd 2nd 2nd, instead of Santa 3rd 3rd 3rd... I seem to recall, that 2nd pay more points, and if you gift your rival 3x 2nds, and you take 3x 3rds, your rival has more points...

When old men overstay their time, what this does is prevent the next car 44 from being... Time for old men to go and drive WEC, or Le Mans, or the fakey fakey E scam..
