Well, my CPU is an AMD Athlon 64 3700+, and I have 2GB of RAM - Could this be bottlenecking my video card?

Yeah that 3700+ may be too slow. 3dMark also test your CPU (it is apart of the score). So when you are comparing scores you have to keep that in mind. Also the resolution 3dMark uses is starting to become a CPU limited one. Using ultra high resolutions shifts the burden back to the GPU, but also kills about 80% of the cards out.

Bioshock Demo Benchmarks

Finally got Bioshock Demo downloaded and benchmarked with FRAPS:

My setup:
iMac Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4Ghz 20" Display (Mid 2007)
2Gig RAM (Apple installed)
Windows XP says: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 XT 256MB ;)

Stats with FRAPS:

Low
1280X768
Graphics set to "Medium" in game (half the graphic settings were auto adjusted to "off")
FPS
Low:24
Average:34
High:43

Medium
1280X768
Graphics set to "High" in game (All of the graphic settings were set to "on")
FPS
Low:15
Average:27
High:32

High
1680X1050
Graphics set to "High" in game
FPS
Low:11
Average:17
High:22

High was pretty choppy. I'm sure a few people would stomach it, but it wasn't my cup of tea. Standing still, the game looked gorgeous.

Medium was just fine for me, I would say it was very playable. If you game on a high end system you wouldn't like medium, but for an iMac I was happy with the performance. With all the negative press about the iMac's graphics card I was quite surprised by medium.

The performace was decent enough for me to decide to purchase this game. If you have any questions, let me know and I'll try to accomodate your requests.

p.s. My first post here!

Slightly off topic, but is anybody here experiencing graphical glitches in Bootcamp with these new iMacs? My 24" seems to get these white dots on the screen when in bootcamp and games go to black screens and cease functioning, etc. I was able to successfully play Age of Empires 3 once, but almost every single other time I've had this glitch in bootcamp. I know others have it too, but I'm curious how those of you who aren't experiencing this are doing so.

Love the benchmark info by the way. To add my 2 cents, AOE 3 seemed to perform best at 1200x768 with low anti-aliasing and most other options set from medium to high. "Highest" settings and high leven AA just bogged down the card. Most times I found myself seeing FPS mid 40's to 60's depending on what was going on.

Thanks for the benchmarks. I really wanted to see how a new game would perform on the iMac before deciding to buy. This has convinced me to sit out this revision unfortunately. If the performance is underwhelming now I can only imagine it getting worse on games released one year from now.

World of Warcraft on the same system (but in OSX) gives me stable 60FPS with all graphics set to the Max and 6.8MB of UI add-ons.

This was on the Burning Crusade expansion and in the Dreanai starting area. (I'm a noob again!)

It dropped to 52FPS in Exxador near the auction house with ~12 other toons.

My Macbook would only get 34FPS at best in Windows XP.

I'm just a casual gamer, and I'm liking what I can get out of my iMac. I've got a copy of Oblivion coming from a friend. I'll try to update everyone about that game as well.

Is everybody using stock bootcamp video drivers or are there other drivers that seem to work better... or even at all?

Windows Experience Index

On my 20" 2.4 Ghz iMac, my base score is 4.5(Memory. I've got 1 GB).

Processor - 5.3
Memory - 4.5
Aero Graphics - 5.9
Gaming Graphics - 5.2

Primary Hard Disk - 5.7

how does one test FPS in osx???

In World of Warcraft you just hover the mouse over the green network status indicater on your hot bar. It will display your network connection and your FPS. I believe that a UI add-on mod would also display it, but I can't find any information about it.

Otherwise, I don't know how to do it in other games for OSX

Actually its smaller

File size: 580MB

3dmark 05 is smaller still -- File size: 286MB (I would be curious to see what the new imac benches in 05 as well .. no one has done that yet .. and its probably more reflective of "average" mid-range games people are playing now)

Yeah.. and if you can get 05 too.. just for curiosity..

Well if nothing else comes of this thread.. I learned about the game OBLIVION .. which somehow escaped my radar (then again I am not a heavy gamer) .. I just got it and I am loving it.. so thanks for whoever it was that posted those iMac oblivion video caps.. !!

So is the consensus that the iMacs are sporting HD2600 XT cards?. The only theory i can come up with is the fact that i heard the ATI cards in the new iMacs were custom made by ATI/AMD for Apple. Afterall they're the same (Pro and XT) chips right with drivers being the differing factor....so maybe custom drivers?

I dunno i'm probably talking outta my ass

The hardware is very XT-like, underclocked a small bit.

Nice nice, as 5.9 is absolutely max in Vista points ! :)
