It can. It is meant to allow higher numbers as more powerful hardware comes out.
at the moment 5.9 is MAX, whatever hardware you buy, 5.9 is max !

Ditto. I just got my iMac and I'll probably be installing bootcamp soon to test things out. Has anybody tried Age of Empires 3?
I run the OS X version of AOE3 here at 1920x1200 with everything else on the defaults, so no AA and everything else pretty much on High. It runs great.
so ur saying without AA its like pretty impressive?? i would be willing to loose some quality for performance, aslong as i have full res.
I'm saying I went with the defaults and up'd the resolution. It ran perfectly fine this way. I did chuck the AA on full to have a look and I couldn't really tell the difference in the picture other than a slightly slower frame rate.
so after 21 pages can anyone tell me if its a 2600xt or not?
yes its an underclocked 2600xt
So it's an underclocked mobility 2600xt? how underclocked are we talking?
Is the mobility 2600xt (as underclocked in the 24" iMac) better than the 8600M (as underclocked in the 15" 2.4 MBP)?
Damn! Im so torn between an iMac and a MBP! I love the look of the new iMac and the H-IPS screen is amazing, but the MBP is just as powerful and its portable! The MBP is a sexy machine as well, totally iconic. but its probably closer to a redesign, but whos to say I'd even like the redesign!
The iMac has the potential to be a fantastic home pc, and with an eyeTV could be a nice HTPC. The MBP is a professional machine though, and I feel like thats what I need for web development.
This graphics card comparisson could be the decider; I'd be inclined to go for the faster card. I want a system that will last me at least 3 years.
Clearly I should just get both and shut up, but I'v misplaced my winning lottery ticket.
It's true they're mobile chips, but some people seem to like complaining there isn't a £300 GPU in the iMac.
I've found no problems at all running games on Windows XP. No way is the 2600XT / iMac combination slow for gaming. Not spectacular, but more than adequate. Even before updated drivers come out.
i dont have a clue wat the underclock freq is. uumm give me until next thursday and ill find out for myself. why cant someone else tell us?? pleasem?!?!?
If you could take the time to read the thread, it is running at 600MHz vs the standard mobile speed of 700MHz and the standard desktop speed of 800MHz. The memory runs at 685MHz vs the standard mobile speed of 700MHz nd the standard desktop speed of 1100MHz.
IS the 2600 XT in the imac overclockable? Is it possible has it been done? Under Vista...under XP? Ive scoured this entire thread and havent seen if it was done. Can someone throw me a bone here? Mine is coming tomorrow and Id like to overclock this puppy for Bioshock
Did you guys see that article that is talking about this thread?
http://www.tuaw.com/2007/08/29/new-imac-video-card-stealth-upgrade-mobility-radeon-hd-2600-xt/
They seem to suggest that at some point, perhaps in conjunction with Leopard, the 2600 xt's will suddenly turn themselves up to full power and start using more hardware encoding and all that. Do you guys think this is meant to be a "stealth upgrade"?

ok so i FINALLY got my imac.
i did a very quick test
COD2:
1900x1200 res
4xAA
full highest settings
25-35FPS
1400x900(or equivilent)
0XAA
medium settings
35-60FPS
i have yet to test any other games, nor have i overclocked the gpu back to its 'standard clock' i shall report back once my family gets over the fact that we have yet another mac. i will also run 3dmark06 and play some other games and whatnot.
Excellent! It would be great if you could do various test changing only one parameter like resolution or AA. That way we can get a feel for the card's "sweet spot".
