Thinking this as well depending on what the normal iPhone 7 size has. I love the battery life on the 6s plus as its the best battery I have ever used on a phone but it gets unwieldy at times due to the width and heavier size.

After becoming accustomed to the s7 edge, the iphone 6+ is a behemoth. I have co-workers who have the iphone 6+ and it looks and feels absolutely gigantic next to the s7 edge.

I'm also a standard iPhone size kind of guy.

In my trial with the S7E I couldn't get over the fact that it was a 5.5 form factor. It felt like an iPhone SE compared to the 6s plus and it was such an amazing design to have the beautiful large screen seem so slim.

When I went back to the 6s+ I felt as if it weighed 7 pounds was wide as heck and putting it in a pocket felt like a box of rocks.

HTC and Huawei Nexus
Successor to the LG V10 (V11, whatever they will call it)

Not really into flagships since I stopped caring when we got up to the QHD era and "5.5 is starting to become the common standard. The foldable displays will eventually make the phablets from the" 5.5-6 range become footnotes someday. The dual edged displays is starting to become a useless gimmick to me similar to bezel-less. Only for cosmetics. You can do those same features on a flat screen. So Note7 better have a variant without the edged displays.

2017 will be a better year for both Android and iPhones. Android N will be more widespread to fix the errors that Lollipop brought out. Foldable displays to bring the clamshell form factor back. The screen can now be protected when closed. The iPhone for 2017 will be a true update. 2016 for phones is like 2016 for summer movies. Not much anticipation. The wiser choices are on phones under the $200 range which can do like 90% tasks on 90% of users' needs.

I am using both a $30 Lumia 640 and Moto E 4G while rotating it with my other three smartphones, and I am probably more fulfilled than people buying 1 or 2 $600 flagships that they will eventually sell within a year because reviewers say they are best. I also have a cheap DTV phone to boot to catch the local news. If any of them will get lost or stolen, I didn't lose much and have plenty of backups.

2017-2019 should look more promising for smartphones before the decade closes just like when Avengers Infinity Wars 1 & 2, Spider-Man Homecoming, Justice League, Star Wars 8 & 9, Han Solo film, Indiana Jones 5, Avatar 2-4, etc start rolling out. Skippable year for Android as always go for Year 3 with the latest design language with its refinements.

Android N should be common in 2017, so skip Marshmallow since Project Svelte is returning and Doze should be improved further.

Ok, we're entering into the 2nd half of 2016, and in my opinion the hottest top releases of smartphones still to come. Some say Spring, nope, I say it's the later Summer / Early Fall releases which are the best;

- Nexus N line; out in Sept / Oct, some rumors saying it may come a little earlier this year, with the final build of N due this Summer, we may see it in August possibly. With all the new features in Android N, finally bringing stuff that Touchwiz and Sense have had baked in for years,. N looks to be the Nexus OS we've all wanted stock to be. I hope the larger phone has a large battery like the S7 Edge 3,600mAh.

- Galaxy Note 7; Announced and released first week of August. I totally understand the name change to the Note 7 instead of the 6, makes total sense, and really needs no explanation. I mean the Galaxy S7, and Galaxy S7 Edge were released earlier this year, and Apple has their iPhone 7 coming out, so keeping the Note with the name "6" just sounds dated to the public, changing to "7" is smart IMO. And the Note 7 spec sheet is out of a nerds wet dream, total beast power, with the SD823 + 6GB RAM + 4,200mAh battery + 5.8" next gen OLED screen + New Flash Memory speeds from Samsung + revised Touchwiz toned down a bit more from the S7.

- iPhone 7; iOS10 did seem to finally update this aging OS with better features and good revisions, but we'll see, will it be enough to get the Android diehards back in the Apple camp ? The iFans will always lap up the latest fruit phone, but will others ? Will it be waterproof ? AMOLED screen ? Note 7 type battery life on the 7 Plus ? A Dark theme finally ? Will they finally reduce the top and bottom bezels and make the phone have a much needed overall smaller footprint ? Or will the iPhone 7 really be the iPhone 6 part 3 and the true next gen phone not coming till next year ?

Nexus N Line: Nice, but always a compromise. It is priced much cheaper than other flagships, but I do wish they would release a full flagship with no compromises and I'd be more than willing to pay a higher price. The 6p is a great phone, but every time I use it I notice compromises.

Note7: Definitely was psyched for this one. My enthusiasm is tempered heavily by Samsung and the carriers horrible update schedule. Knowing that I won't get Android N on this phone for a year puts a huge damper on this phone, as does the locked bootloader. From all accounts it just seems like a minor upgrade from the Note 4, although having the microSD slot is very nice. If it only gets released with a curved screen IMO that will make it inferior functionally to the Note 4. I was rock solid on being first in line for the Note 7, but now I'm 50/50.

iPhone 7: Hmm, iOS10 seems like they didn't do much other than catch up somewhat to Google, which of course is a good thing. I still see significant shortcomings though, for me the main ones are lack of screen widgets and google voice integration. Plus Apple got real complacent and there don't seem to be many hardware upgrades or changes. This will definitely be in the maybe category. And yeah, those bezels are horrible and I have no idea how they get away with that in 2016.

What excited me this year was the Moto Z with its modules. But then I got to thinking, in a year when I get a different phone what the hell am I going to do with all the modules I spent money on? They aren't cheap, $300 for that projector with pretty terrible specs. Still, might be interesting to buy, then get the modules for serious discounts next year either used, or reduced price if they don't sell.

My biggest anticipation, by far, continues to be foldable screens, but that's a story for 2017. It seems this year was the year of complacency, nothing really updated significantly and no concrete reasons to go out and buy a new phone.

Losing the headphone jack doesn't affect me personally (I worry more about thinness for the sake of thinness), but I mostly agree: http://www.theverge.com/circuitbrea.../iphone-no-headphone-jack-user-hostile-stupid

The Verge:
Taking the headphone jack off phones is user-hostile and stupid
It is just a money grab for Apple. Sales of the iphone have slowed or are less than YoY. So what better way to make up for the lost revenue than milking the apple faithful for more accessories. I mean they own their own accessory brand (Beats) and stand to make a killing from the additional sales. I wonder if they collect licensing fees from the accessory makers for using the lightning port?
Anyway I would rather have a thicker iphone with a bigger battery and a headphone jack. Thinner at the cost of functionality is senseless to me.

With only the Note Edge now looking to be released and iPhone 7 looking to be very minor over the current 6S it's starting to look like this this year might be the year I really slow down buying new phones as I'm reaching apathy as far as new 2016 devices at this moment.

Despite some "pre-innovation" that is not-quite-ready-for-prime-time-to-justify-the-costs, this is a pretty lackluster year so far. Solid phones for sure, but not much exciting to upgrade to if you already have a good phone. Guessing this is the calm before the storm of the next two years for some radically different designs with modularity and bendable getting traction.

Lol and nothing will be "pro" about the device as usual. ......Note 7 is the only phone on my radar...I will not even phase choosing another option since this phone will be missing nothing....

If true, it'll be interesting to see what Apple considers "pro." Could be exciting. But I know it'll mean a high premium price. And more worrisome, what does that mean for the other devices? What will the 7 Plus be missing? What will the iPhone 7 be missing?

iPhone 7 clone from China. If the rumors are true, this is a good indication of what it'll look like:

Google's first phone manufactured by them...

Interesting...

http://9to5google.com/2016/06/26/google-working-on-its-own-android-smartphone-report/

I guess cross out the HTC Nexuses (or Nexi) if Google releases their own phone. There was a question on GSM Arena under the topic of the Nexus 5X being $239.99 asking what is the point of the Nexus program? They don't really excel in hardware areas. After the Nexus 5, the series lost their huge price advantage. You get updates only for 18 months.

It made me realize what's the point with Nexus devices if Google doesn't have all the say with hardware or pricing? Might as build it your own. I hope to see both a Nokia Android flagship and Google's first smartphone made by them by the end of the year. Nokia and Google are among my favorite companies I want to support.

Wow I wonder if the camera is really going to stick out that far, looks like you'd poke the eye out of your photo subject. Too bad they didn't post front pics, I'm curious how the bezels look. I have no hopes of the iphone having smaller bezels, but maybe the chinese version does. I'm assuming it runs Android.

I predict the front will not change very drastically from the iPhone of today.

None too thrilled by the overall design myself. HTC has antenna line-design figured out far better than Apple.

Personally, I can't wait for Apple to potentially one day go back to an all glass iPhone:

And this one is an oldie:

iphone-6-concept-nowhereelse-and-martin-hajek-003_thumb.jpg

Curved edge display? Embedded fingerprint scanner into front panel (no more physical home button!)? Waterproofing? Contact-less charging? Plus iOS 11 finally giving users more freedom to customize?

Take my money.

But alas, this iPhone, if it comes to fruition, is a long while away...

Here I thought people liked the physical home and navigation buttons on Samsung. I predict major outcry when they are removed.

Edit: Oh sorry, I read this wrong. I thought it was based on the force touch screen. This just means capacitive button in apple terms.

I've been a fan of on-screen buttons and capacitive home buttons + fingerprint scanner.

The OnePlus 3 looks like it's got it right. Videos show it unlocks incredibly fast, too.

Away with physical home buttons; hate 'em!

That note 7 button is looking obscenely big on the front there. Will it be physical?

The sooner Samsung can get the capacitive button going, the better. It should work exactly like the OnePlus 3.

Isn't the Note 7 expected to have an Iris scanner, too? That'll be interesting...
