What do you guys think? I can't imagine they'd test 3.1 LONGER than 3.0 since it's not filled with new features.

Discuss.

As much as I want the GM release, I think they'll release beta 4 this week. Some developers were still having some minor issues with beta 3.
I hope they re-add the vibrate feature when rearranging the icons. It's good to know if you accidentally put it in rearrange mode when you're holding your phone, if you forgot to lock it.

I imagine we will see a beta 4 rather than a GM this week as well. I seem to be having significant problems accessing cellular data, whether Edge or 3G. Just seems like some significant kings are still present.

I dont know about everyone else, but the latest beta has messed with my accelerometer and activating landscape sometimes doesnt work without moving it back to vertical and then back to landscape.

Maybe its always been that way but maybe someone can try it on their phone.

Vertically from the home screen, choose SMS app. then go horizontal. then while horizontal push the home button and while still horizontal choose the mail app. The mail app for me opens vertically even though the phone is still horizontal. I have to physically rotate the phone to vertical and back to horizontal to make mail landscape. Does this happen for everyone?

I'd say that we'd see beta 4. Release schedule suggests not until September.

Yeah but you also need to keep in mind that they released 3.0 and the 3G S a month earlier than previous years. If they were truely to keep to schedule it would be released next week.

Beta 4 please. I hope it's not GM yet. It seems like they still have some work to do. I won't upgrade to 3.x again until it's as smooth as 2.2.1. Copy and paste doesn't mean that much to me.

I'm pretty sure that is how it has always been. The application thinks you are in portrait mode automatically and will then change accordingly. The same thing happened on my iPod touch 2G running 2.2.1 and 3.0. So, not an issue.

Since AT&T and Apple said 'late summer,' I would expect a Beta 4 this week and no GM until AT&T is ready.

AT&T said late summer for MMS, Apple said nothing and has no say in it (if you're talking about the picture I attached below from Apple's website, that is there because that is what AT&T told them). All AT&T needs to do is release a carrier file update for MMS, the only thing Apple does is release it through iTunes. There is no official time that 3.1 needs to be released.

RUMORS are that the carrier file update needed for AT&T customers to enable MMS will be included with 3.1, but there is no evidence that points to that whatsoever.

I would like a GM, and MMS, but I'd rather they get all of the bugs out first. You would think they would have had time to do this by now, but after reading these posts.........??????

Knowing Apple, we'll get the GM tomorrow. 2 weeks is enough time for them to work out the bugs themselves. Heck, we all expected another beta of 3.0 to be release, but we got the GM a while back.

3.1 and MMS have nothing to do with each other. Nothing.

I'm running 3.0.1 and have MMS working without any sort of hack. I'm in Spain and have Movistar, not AT&T. So you would be right about 3.1 not having anything to do with MMS. It's just AT&T that has to release a carrier update, that's all.

Three days ago it rained.
Two days ago it didn't.
Yesterday it rained a bit - but only at night.
Will it rain today?

Really? It's all speculation. It will be released when it's released.

Nope, and there are many bugs in the current beta which needs to be ironed out, and therefore another beta would confirm everything if fine prior to GM.

There were many bugs in 3.0 Beta 5, but Apple ironed them out themselves, right?

GM = gold master. Which is the build you get when downloading firmware from iTunes.

3.0 beta 5 was terrible. I was suprised with the GM release after that. I haven't ran any 3.1 betas since it's not a huge update, only minor adjustments to 3.0.
