If you click a link that new windows and then redirects Safari doesn't always crash when said window is closed. Still does it once and awhile but rarer now.

That said Navigon is a hell a lot smoother and so is text input on forms in safari where the window needs to scroll.

Possible New Feature

When you click on the locate me button on the lower left, then press it again, it seems to give the option of the map showing another direction, like a radar. Is this new or did I just miss it earlier?

That's the compass feature :) - Been there since the 3GS has been out.

It's the longest goodbye that will evolve into a hello again when he gets his touch so he can explain the differences he sees.. then when the iPhone next gen is announced, it will be countless threads about whether or not he should take the chance, yadda yadda.. zzzzzzz

God I hope not. He needs to be spanked or something. As a former Apple hater, I am not sure why anyone would not want an iPhone. I know there are some but if you ask pretty much anyone in the know if they want an iphone, they say yes. I love mine and will not trade it for any other UNLESS something else comes along and blows it away. Until then - I will be an iphone user for life. :)

Did anyone else lose visual voicemail?
A buddy of mine updated to 3.1 and now his visual voicemail does not work.
Already restored, no dice.

itunes said my phone was reactivated after i did the 3.1 install i hit eject on itunes and then i saw on the phone it wasnt actually finished. now my phone wont go past the apple screen that comes up when u first turn it on.

does anyone know what i can do?

thanks

edit its working now. but in itunes it used to say my name as the device now it says iphone. anyone know how to fix that?

backup after 3.1 is very sloooooooooooooww...30+ minutes...anyone else noticing this???

When I updated to 3.1, it took about an hour and 30 min to backup, update, and install. I don't recall ever waiting that long before (except for a MAJOR update, like from 2.x to 3.0).

So far, I have found NOTHING new with this new update (I have a 3G, not a 3GS). Can anyone tell me how to do something that my phone could not do before? Anything?

Backup after the update took under 5 minutes here. Perhaps you all have much more stuff on your phones?

I'm still kicking myself for installing 3.0. Can't say I will upgrade in the foreseeable future. Yes I have issues, but I doubt the update actually fixes anything.

I'm seeing better performance overall. Also, Internet browsing over WiFi is snappier - a lot snappier actually. Didn't think this was a documented fix?

Happy with the update, no problems here at all.

Have you tried Maps application? I thing it draws map ultra fast now (tried it on WiFi connection). I'm almost 100% it wasn't so fast before.

i think just better allround battery life, not that we actually know that at the moment, and theres some new features where you push the home button 3 times i think and it takes to the accessibility menu in settings..

I personally upgraded just so i can be on top of everything that apple is doing at the mo..

Thank you. :)

I tried the three clicks and it just went to Phone favorites and then exited back to home screen. But thank you for trying anyway instead of all the other useless posts on this thread that the mods seem to be doing nothing about. This website...errr, I mean this thread, is going to chaos. (but hey, everything starts somewhere)

Thanks again for the [first?] serious post on this thread.

well mine bricked somewhat....

The install failed within seconds and left me with the new phone screen. From there I updated, then restored from backup. Problem is after that none of my third party apps work, only the standard ones which come with the phone - all the others quit out immediately after opening.

Every time i did a hard reset to see if that cured the problem, it came up with a message saying the iphone is activated once it had booted up.

So i restored to factory settings and am restoring once again from backup.... in the mean time any ideas guys?

WIFI performance has been improved when using bluetooth.

On that note, bluetooth audio stream is still all skippy when a voice control system is in play. For example, Ford Sync.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7C144 Safari/528.16)

Seems snappier. Speaker is definitely clearer.

I had a full screen of apps with the wrong icons (a bug in 3.0) and now they are all fine so that is a good thing.

I had something similar on 3.0. I had Apple Logo of Death, but given enough hard resets, I could boot back in, but all third party apps disabled as you describe. You could re-enable them with a sync. If I couldn't reboot, sometimes connecting via cable would work.

It was annoying as hell - not knowing that when you turn it off whther it would boot again. For whatever reason, 3.0.1 cleared it entirely. I NEVER experienced a single ALOD on that. Now, back on 3.1, I get ALOD every time. Thanks, Apple.

I don't know if it's me or the new 3.1 update but my phone definitely feels. Lot snappier in every way. Especially switching through settings and apps and what not. Going back and fourth through text conversations seems to be quicker.
