I guess that's what I get for going backwards from page 22 of this thread. I think I stopped at page 10 of this thread before posting..I made a post with great instructions. Here: https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/8575500/
Thanks.

So I'm leaning closer to the problem being more to do with early hardware. I could be wrong, but that seems to be the common denominator that I've read about here.
That same hardware played in the sandbox very nicely with 3.0.1, and many other versions prior to that, though.
Perhaps one of the Apple software devs introduced a new API routine into 3.1 -- appropriately named Induce3GComa() -- just to mess w/ 3G users and get them to upgrade?![]()
My phone blacked out yesterday (1st time in weeks) and also said I had 4 photo's on camera roll when I had none.
I decided to do a restore as a new phone (not from a backup). This has meant I have lost information such as my fuel consumption figures, etc (in fact anything 'written in') but none of it is a real problem. It remains to be seen if I have any more 'blackout's' but the photo app now says the correct number on camera roll.

Try downloading the iPhone 3.1.2 update. This should have fixed this problem.
Bu-bu-but it's not a software issue!![]()

Yeah, I always laughed at those people who claimed that it was a different chipset from earlier production models of the iPhone 3G.
Oh and it's a NETWORK problem too![]()

So, any updates on your issues??
So 3.1.2 isn't safe either??? I don't know what to do.![]()
