Fith Ave Store

NYC over 500 at Fifth Ave Store. My first experience stand online. When the door opened I was finished in 20 minutes, I would say I was about 250 to 300 from the front. Great experience. I read this was not the main event, but I was surprised by the length of the line. Next time I will do a delivery.

I stopped by the local Best Buy at 4:30pm, there was no line or anything and just 1 guy playing with a Wifi saying he was still thinking about getting a 3g. At 4:50pm I started a line, and by 5pm there were about 5 other people in line. They had 15 3g iPads, all 64gb (limit 1 per customer). They started checking people out around 5:05pm, and I walked out with a 64gb. I haven't opened it yet (since no restocking fee if I return it unopened), want to think about it some more and also read other people's reviews on the service/etc. Was just getting one today because if I decide in the next few days that I want to get one, I don't want to have trouble finding it.

I don't see why anyone would want to get it from the Apple Store instead of Best Buy. The price is the same, plus at Best Buy you get Reward Zone points which are good for gift certificates and for earning Silver status. :)

What do you get when you reach Silver Status?

You can buy anything (even laptops, camcorders, GPS devices, appliances, etc) and return 45 days later with no restocking fee.

You also get reward certificates faster, free shipping at bestbuy.com, a priority customer service line, and some online services like free movie rentals and music streaming.

I can't imagine going to an all-purpose store like Best Buy for something as special as an Apple product. The ambience is totally different, the staff with whom one deals significantly more knowledgeable about and interested in their product(s) and the entire experience on a Launch Day in particular is just so unique and delightful. That said, I realize that not everyone has the choice, as there are indeed areas in which there are no Apple stores or getting to one involves a significantly long drive. Sure, in that case Best Buy works. If in an area where both stores are available, I will choose the Apple store first, each and every time.

Columbus Ohio apple store had a couple of hundred in line. I was actually surprised how busy it was. A lot of people there were buying their second iPad.

By the time we got to launch at 5 there were about 100 people in line and some were turned away because the store ran out of at least one model (assuming it was the 16gb). They checked that people had credit cards while were still on line, but at least one buyer ended up with cash in the store and was begging strangers to buy for him if he gave them the cash.

On another note, bank of america flagged my purchase as fraud and wouldn't let the charge through. I was PISSED seeing that I called them yesterday to be sure that wouldn't happen. Luckily my brother was able to put mine on his card too.

Was a fun day!

I used to feel that way until my last few Apple Store visits, where I had to wait roughly 20 minutes each time just to speak with one of their Emo employees. Never again.

I KNOW what I want when walking into the store. So at least with BB, I'm in and out with my new toy in 5 minutes total.

I was headed to the Suburban Square store and called the store at about 6:05 and they were completely sold out!

So I headed over to the King of Prussia store and they had quite a long line. Waited about an hour, but got a 64gig 3g. Very pumped! Leaving the mall at about 8:30 they were sold out of the 16 gig 3g units, but had the 32 and 64 still remaining.

All of the area BB that I called were sold out.
