As am I. Apple Weather still uses the Weather Channel for their data, which struck me as odd due to Apple purchasing Dark Sky.

Apple probably has a contract to run out with The Weather Channel. Plus they have started integrating Dark Sky into the native app, albeit slowly.

Since Apple bought dark sky, I doubt we will be seeing any significant updates to the app, if any.
Not following your logic at all. They update native apps all the time and have more widgets than anyone. It's just that widgets are really, really new.

I've run into a weird bug with the DataMan widget. The 4x2 long widget works perfectly fine. The 2x2 widget shows a blank face. I've tried several things to fix and nothing works.

There are two ways Apple could go.

When they bought Shazam, they continued it as it was, with updates and support.

When they bought Texture, they killed it off and used whatever they got to make News+ the less-than-stellar service that it is.

I suspect that Apple wanted Dark Sky for the technology... so I see them taking that tech and folding the feature set into their already-existing Weather app.

Apollo is really buggy. Its shows subreddits that I’m not following despite picking my subscriptions to show.

What third party widgets are available and how are you liking them?

so far, I like the old widgets better. For some reason Apple made them less functional. For example, with Todoist, in the old widget I could mark a task as done without it opening the app. The new widget has to open the app to do anything Other than show me information.

This worries me when my Hue light apps update for iOS 14. They currently allow me to control lights right from the widget, I worry that this will no longer work in iOS 14. Not sure why Apple is taking away features.

Hmm, no Dark Sky for me.

Sorry my bad it though of Night Sky that did get the update. Not sure if Apple will still update Dark Sky. You might want to hop over to Apples own weather app or other apps that now updated their apps with iOS14 widgets such as Forecast Bar, Carrot Weather or Weather Line all with multiple weather sources and lots of options to make it how you want it to be especially in the first two.

@weaztek

This is my reasoning as well. The Dark Sky purchase seems more like acquiring it for the technology. If you look at the iOS 14 weather app, you can already see some of the DS technology being integrated. I can’t see a reason why Apple would want to maintain two separate weather apps going forward.

See also Siri and Beats music for app acquisitions that were integrated into the system rather than maintained as separate apps. workflows, I think, is similar but ultimately not quite the same because there wasn’t an existing Apple app. But it definitely has benefited and even thrived being a first party app.

It think it's the latter too, as you can see them starting to integrate it into the native weather app.

Also, there's been no update to the app for 5 months.

I suspect that Apple are running out the contract with The Weather Channel, and we will see all the tech from Dark Sky fully in the native weather app. I'm thinking it might be an iOSS thing... "We've revamped the stock Weather app with all the cool technology of Dark Sky..."
