Will the education offer any sort of discount for the iPad though? im hoping it will knock about 10% off, I know thats lower than all of the other products get discounted, but i would take it, 10% off the general idea of about £399 - £449 would be £40 off, so about £410 or £360

Whether Apple will offer it is debatable, but if they do, the Higher Education discount will be 14%, as that is the discount across the store (at least according to the UK in-store price list the staff have).

UK
Based on the iPhone

I reckon that if they follow the same pattern as the iPhone take something the price in dollars and see how much it is on the UK apple store. So take something $499 dollars (Like the 2tb Time capsule). And on the UK apple store it is £388. So i reckon the iPad will start at £388. Apple quite often don't stick to the rounding up to £?99.

Don't forget to add 17.5% for the VAT. That gets you to £362. If you allow for import duties and whatever else England tacks on, I'm thinking £399.

I love it that these types of post always come out after every Apple announcement. The folks in the UK and Europe forget that US pricing never includes sales tax.

No, but when you add on all the taxes on both sides we still pay more. I also don't pay to import something I buy in my local high street.

also, some states pay NO SALES tax at all.

you can't sugar coat it. for the sake of greed, $1 = £1.

And get them to pay the 17.5% VAT and Import Duty on arrival in the UK (as it is over their £145 personal allowance), or get them to break the law?

and it would be nice if you had your facts right, import allowance from a non-eu country is £390.

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/customs/arriving/arrivingnoneu.htm

so i'll be getting my ipad from the US, and as mr Jobs mentions, these mobile devices are international :D

My comment totally failed.
Yes it did.

Either way, I dislike people who break the law on such scale and upwards.
Yet you have a site that gives links to watch TV and Films online for free? although you could argue that it is a small scale...

Still if the product is below the allowance it is fine so I have no idea why you are frowning on it.

Excellent find!

Can u claim back us sales tax if live in UK on an item that cost $499?

I guess only difference would be no warranty? Not great for first gen, first batch?

Plus us USB charger. I would hope keyboard can be set up as UK ie with £?

Other option I wonder if will sell these at tax free dixons in UK? They sell MacBooks but not iPhones.

Thoughts?

Erm, The site in question has been down for a long time. I don't own the site. My business is solely focussed towards one niche.

I resigned as administrator in 2008 ( at which point, I was still only software manager).

The control of the site is left to one or two people who manager and effectively own the site.

Ct not sure of your beef.

Northy. You've made my evening.

Nope, I don't own the site.

Your welcome :p

I am not going to continue with on this after I say this, you still advertised it in your signature until a few moments ago so I would still say that you are related to it, therefore doing (or did) something illegal.

Just get off your high horse because someone wants to get a product cheaper, we live in a free country.

You will be covered with the warranty. My parents bought back a couple of iPod classics back from the States for my brother and myself and my brother's didn't work. The Apple store in Solihull changed it without any issues, they even knew which store in New York had sold it.

The only product they don't cover is the iPhone.

Yes I did remove it, but before I saw your post. Both links in the signature have not been functional for quite a while. I am still getting back to MacRumors after a few months of activity. You were also a part of the original, but I took the footsteps of the owner. Therefore in that regard, both of us would have been liable.

Granted we live in a free country, but rules are there for a reason.

£390 is the allowance, he is not lying at all as it is within the law.

Learn the law before continuing please.

We don't have a very accurate UK pricing so as far as you and I know, the device could be launched at £400 in the UK.

And this has what to do with breaking the law? it is up to the person who is buying it if they still want to import even if it is £400 in the UK.

But it would still nearly £100 cheaper if you buy it in the US. It would be within the personal allowance, they wouldn't have to declare it and no law would be broken.

What's problem?

It has already been established that duty will need to be paid only if the value of the good ie device, in the UK, is above £390. The thread is purely speculative in terms of the price.

What part of it is under the £390 allowance do you not understand? and even if it weren't as it is a Portable PC which unless you get the 3G with A-GPS is also Duty Free (with it is 3.7% I do believe due to the A-GPS if they class it as a GPS which they should do, shouldn't they?).

I give up tbh.
