Just annoying and small. Had to zoom in on this to even type.

I had the same experience when I first got my retina display MBP, I have the zoom in on my safari tool bar to quickly adjust text size when needed.

I'd say keep the 4k, support will get better in the future from web and software devs.

Return it. Had you done your research you'd know that current gpus aren't up to snuff for 4k yet, neither is OSX. The hdmi connections on the nMP are only capable of 4k at 30hz as well. The nMP really wasn't designed for 4k. Apples marketing would like to lead you to believe otherwise though.

Hate to say it but you wasted your money. Flushing 4k down the toilet would probably have been more beneficial.

Anand reported the same:
OS X (and Windows 8.1) running at 3840 x 2160 is incredible, but I find that text, menus and UI elements can be too small. My eyesight isn’t what it used to be and 3840 x 2160 on a 32” panel is just past the borderline of comfortable for me. For editing photos and videos it’s great, but for everything else the ~30% increase in pixel density was just too much.

The thundebolt ports are capable of 60 Hz at 4k using display port connections on the monitor. Frankly, I am not even sure what your post has to with the complaints raised in this thread.

Read one of the several reviews out there that comment on how the nMP and osx aren't ready for 4k.

The complaint by the op is the text is too small. This has already been pointed out by several reviews. OSX is not ready for 4k yet and either are GPU's in general.

Not a problem for me

I have the same Sharp 4k monitor. It's not a problem for me. I increased the size of my folder icons and folder label text to 18. I set the default zoom in Chrome to 150%. The only issue I have is the small size of finder & app menus.

All in all I'm really happy with the monitor. Then again, I had the 27 inch TB monitor before and the text size doesn't seem all that different. Larger screen size partially offsets the higher resolution

I read it but wanted the cache of buying a 4K Monitor at 60Hz.
So the monitor has met your requirements, you have that cache, you have your own thread on here about 4K monitors.

I use a 50" TV as my monitor, I can manage to hit CMD + a few times without getting stressed about it

To thread starter: maybe before telling us that 4K displays suck because you have bad eyesight you should've invested that money into getting that eyesight fixed?

BTW, anyone here using 4K display in "close-up mode"?

I usually sit very close (30-50 cm) to 27" TBD, for coding that is quite convenient (using 12-13px fonts in editors). Can see pixels quite well this way too. Was wondering how that would work with 4K of adequate size (30"+). Or will menus be too small?

Pretty sure Apple will enable Retina scaling some time in the future.

Also, have been playing Sim City with all the settings on Maximum in 4K with my Mac Pro. Awesome!

You're wrong. The new Mac Pro can drive two 4K/UHD displays @ 60Hz simultaneously and a third at 30Hz via HDMI. You're taking bits and pieces of things you've read online and regurgitating that here like you're an expert. You made a comment earlier about the Sony 4K TVs not having good color reproduction, which is also BS as I have one (65") and when calibrated it's one of the best LCD TV's on the market in terms of color gamut and accuracy.

Leave the analysis of Macs and 4K displays to the people who have actually tried it...not **** you heard on YouTube.

I have read all of the reviews. I am pretty sure you haven't, since you are spreading half-truths and misinformation.

Is that the Seiki? How do you find the mouse response at 30 Hz?

Thank you for that. I've been a Sim City fan since it first came out. I'm looking forward to playing it when my nMP finally arrives.

Besides the price, this is why I hold off on a 4K monitor for now. As others have mentioned, in time, Apple will in all likelihood introduce a 2X mode like with the rMBP's.

So yeah, it's annoying right now and it may be a while, once Apple has introduced the 2X option, before software developers have adjusted their applications to make use of it. I don't recall how long it took from the release of the first rMBP but perhaps someone else can weigh in.

I'm confused as to why you're complaining when clearly, you know what to expect.
This is where I'm standing. I don't quite get it.

money doesn't always buy happiness.
Or the ability to articulate the issues, troubleshoot, and apply logic.

I cannot tell if you're serious or not but it sounds to me and based on your thread title, that you are looking for some sort of attention. I want to believe you're an adult because of the amount of money you've spent on your MP and your display, but I'm having a hard time believing that an adult, who has the capacity to buy in such excess to play Sim City, can't understand that the 4K monitor is doing exactly what it should be doing.

It may not be a display that you can use. I would return it and save yourself $3k, spend a grand on a 30" display that isn't the 4K display and call it a day.
