Easy, I have been chastised by the moderators multiple times now for calling out this guy. He is trolling you guys...plain and simple. He has yet to show any proof that he owns anything.

You are correct, it is cachet. But he doesn't need to know how to spell, he has servants who can do that for him. Again, it's AMAZING that a troll can generate a five page thread...

I'm fairly sure he's the real deal, look at the reactions of others when he posted his nMP unboxing video thread which he has since made private.

I quite enjoy reading his bait - macrumors very own Stan Herbert, a Harry Enfield comedic character here in the uk!

Lol - that brings back good memories.

In my experience people who have money don't feel the need to shout about it. Those without tend to pretend.

I hope for his sake he is a troll having a laugh. Quite sad otherwise :)

He may not have the brummie style but still reminds me of him.

He was on the uk big brother apparently a few years back - last one I watched was the jack dee comic relief over 10 years ago so unsurprisingly I have no idea! Digital spy has a lot of threads about him but as the most anti celeb culture person in the world I can't be bothered to even look.

Some people who are rich do brag about it, narcissists usually. They give themselves self esteem with it and they don't care what anybody thinks about it - apart from their reflection of course. Characters just like Stanley!

Plus every single reality show that's on the box. I watch none of them - thank goodness for iplayer and YouTube saving me from brain dead tv hell!

Some people crave the attention, whether in the media of some sort or even giving it large on a Apple technical forum :D

I'm the opposite, not even Facebook is in this house. I have enough demented clients posting nonsense about nonsense and thinking what strangers think of them as being crucial to their life as it is! :D

Yeah i must say he at least makes the mac pro part of the forum more entertaining. Before he came there was not really much stuff in here to lol about. He at least adds variety to the forum.

Live and let live - if he gets a kick out of throwing the odd bone for others to pounce on and it makes me smile that's fine by me lol

Might be time to rewrite the title of the thread to 4k monitor good?

I've debated this matter. I cannot argue this monitor is good. I cannot argue this monitor is bad. Operating in HiDPI is not what it was designed for. It was designed to be used in 4K, which I occasionally do.

I'd play solitaire. Not much good for anything else

Nope that'll push the D700's to hard! You'll over tax the PSU, and thermal core, and throttle!

I plan on going hardcore with Pong! At least there I'll get about 24 FPS, which will be smooth since people can't see more FPS than that anyway!

I just want a monitor where I can view a camera image at 100% without being zoomed in a ton.

5616 x 3744 pixel size for my 5D MKII currently. When will we se 16K monitors?

I think I might try a good old text adventure game like the hobbit. Do you think it will be able to cope with text?

I dunno man! There will be so much text to be rendered! You're certainly going to be pushing it. I know Zork manages to get about 8FPS, but since there's so many characters on screen it's completely understandable.

You might get like 10FPS, so for a text adventure it's super high value. I hear triple GTX780Ti gets around 3100000FPS on average so it's damn good for us.

If Moore's law applies to monitors, about 4 years.

Well, Adventure might work OK. It was fine on my TRS-80. :D

Congrat! Make sure you calibrate the monitor :)

I have to be honest. I am a bit out of my depth. This thing cost me nearly $3,000 with Tax. It said it is Calibrated in the Factory. Then, in the Box, there is a Calibration Thingy! Surely something needn't be Calibrated twice?!

I don't get it. Even has a report that says it's all Calibrated etc.

What now?!

Displays become less accurate over time as they are used. Depending on your requirements for accuracy, you may need to update the calibration weekly or even daily, or you might be fine to do it on a monthly basis or even less than that.
It's why the higher-end displays like Eizo or Barco monitors have a calibration sensor built in, and automatically calibrate themselves so you don't have to worry about it.
You will also need to create an ICC profile the first time you use it so that your color managed applications will display images correctly.

Perhaps you should actually do some research and find out what it is that you're buying before you do.
If you just wanted a nice big non-retina IPS display for viewing sRGB/BT.709 content (web/movies) there was no need to spend $3000 on something like this NEC.
A wide gamut display like that is going to display the wrong color in any programs which are not color managed - basically anything which is not a professional editing tool, such as your web browser. Everything is going to look oversaturated.

I will be honest. I have been using this screen for the last few hours and it is thoroughly unimpressive. I can't make it too bright cause the monitor complains about a lack of uniformity over 250 something something.

The NEC is a professional tool for a specific purpose. I am starting to like my 4K monitor.

This thing is so whatever.

LOL! Plan to sell the 30" nec?
