Does anyone know why the update filesize via iTunes is 4-5 times bigger than the OTA download? Compressed? False numbers?

OTA updates are delta updates.
From Wikipedia:

"A delta update is an update that only requires the user to download the code that has changed, not the whole program."

That?

I'm thinking the OTA update didn't work for me because my device was jailbroken. I heard that the new update would just not be detected via OTA, but that is probably the reason.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For the most part, the iOS 5.1 update is pretty useless to me.

o_O Growl notification "Apple Mobile Device (recovery mode)". Ugh, and that painful iTunes "waiting for ipod." and empty progress bar on my device.

Updated. I can confirm the presence of a "4G" indicator and the new camera lockscreen. I don't know about battery life yet, but I'll test that out tomorrow.

Safari no longer brings up the bookmarks menu when you open it anew. Instead, the address bar shows "go to this page," also when no tabs are open.

im torn as having the ability to delete from photo stream and iTunes match genius would be nice but so is having my jailbreak.

Can anyone report if there are any other iTunes match fix's in 5.1 aside from genius being re-added?

Just updated an iPhone 3GS.

The download took 15 mins over WiFi
The phone then appeared to hang for about 20 mins with a "preparing update" message, but then moved on to an "installing update" screen which lasted another 15 mins.

The phone is now running iOS 5.1 as well as it's run all the previous versions of the OS. We will see how the battery life works out over the next few days although it has been OK up till now.

Downloaded and upgraded, but the camera button on the home lock screen does not seem to work, every time I push it, the screen does a little jump and that's all, can't access the camera. Anyone else having this problem?

On Verizon Network on iphone 4.

You don't push it, you pull it up.

I'm pretty sure you're supposed to flick it, either up or down.

I have been attempting to update both my iPhone 4S and iPad 16GB for the past hour.

I am having issues with "Contacting iPhone software update server"

At this point in time I am putting it down to simple demand, I do hope this clears up.

Haven't been able to download for almost 7 hours now. You'd think with those billions of dollars Apple has, they could mirror the freaking firmware.
