Dude, did you read my previous posts regarding overclocking, new drivers, etc.. etc?

I posted that information so others would know what to expect... You can roll back to 306.xx if you want to play skyrim, I wanted to try the other drivers.. Hopefully they will have an official 680mx update soon.

I have the 310.90 driver with the last update of Skyrim and it works perfectly all maxed out with HD Textures.

I know this is a benchmark thread, but was wondering if anyone knew if it is possible to install windows 7 or 8 on a external USB 3 HD and boot Windows from the USB drive?

I've tried installing Windows 7 on an external USB2 HDD, but it won't let you. I assume the same is true of Windows 8, but I don't know.

been playing planetside 2 everything on high and it looks amazing and runs smooth as hell
on bootcamp love this computer so far!!!1:D:D

sorry if this has been asked. Has anyone tried Civilization V on the 680MX? Looking to get it but have seen people had issues on the MBPr and don't want to lay out £30 for a game I can't play. This will be on OSX as i've got the 3tb fusion. Cheers in advanced.

Yeah it's quite disgusting how smooth my imac runs in winders...I just wish wow would run as smooth in OSX, would save me from rebooting!

Drop the £30! It runs perfect in OS X.. max resolution and high settings.

I guess you're right here, I'm gonna get a care pack just in case. I hope that will cover any eventual damage :)
Do you think the apple support knows the acceptable temps for the GPU?

Yeah it could be, it sounds like it's either coming from the harddrive or the gpu fan. I can hear the sound both OC'd and without but as soon as i tab out to windows it goes away. I've checked all the graphs in EVGA precision and the card behaves the same with or w/o OC except for GPU clock and memory clock.

Don't know if I should call apple since the sound is louder only while the GPU is OC'd :)

I have the same buzzing during Far Cry 3. If I have any sound on I don't really hear it. It goes away as soon as I alt-tab out of Far Cry 3, and it doesn't happen during Torchlight 2. I'm guessing it's some kind of load-based thing. Not really a big deal, but I do know what you're talking about.

Yeah, I think it could be load based aswell. It's not the same sound as from the main fan and for me it is loader if I overclock the GPU. I just hope the power supply or any adjacent components suffer due to the load / sound.

While Overclocked and the fan speed raised a bit my GPU stays around 80deg and the CPU has so far had a maximum of 87.
Is that to high for the CPU?

Yea, it's a little high. But it sounds like these are temps people are getting without OC'ing. It sounds like temps run a little lower in Mac OSX, but still run high regardless by default. So, I suppose those numbers are ok based on what I've been hearing. My iMac is coming first week in feb. (had to sell my "old" one first). Will let you know what kind of temp I'm getting.

Excellent :) never played civ before but it looks pretty good. Was worried after reading that it could have issues on mountain lion.

Just fired up Civ V on the iMac in OS X, and it does run perfectly in 2560x1440, despite giving me worries since the main menu is in a small box for some reason, hah! Looks stunning, I might add.

87 doesn't sound too high, to be honest. A tad high, maybe, but definitely not TOO high.

New drivers working great for me too! Thanks!

Fyi, the 310.90 driver is the mobile drivers from nvidia. You have to select it manually by choosing the GTX 680M driver and downloading it.

wonder how the new drivers do on planetside 2 on max settings :D:D

Someone already answered that :)
I, for one, can't wait to try that game out. I hear it's pretty bad@ss.

Just preordered bioshock infinite after watching the latest trailer. That game has me excited. As does the new Splinter Cell game, Crysis 3, GTA5, aww crap. So much for getting work done.

its like battlefield but on a much larger scale and much much better imo;)

Windows 7 can be deployed/installed to a USB drive, just not with the standard graphical installer, i personally installed it to a Thunderbolt drive and am able to boot from it on my iMac. I also tried to boot it from a USB2 port on a laptop. This also worked after "tuning" the registry.

3DMark Benchmarks!

Sorry for the tardiness, my FIOS took a dump about 4 hours ago. >_> (What are the chances, I've never raged harder.) Here are my first run benchmarks from 3DMark on both my 27" 2011 fully loaded iMac, and my new 27" 2012 fully loaded. Get the Depends ready folks...

Over 2x the performance from 2011 model, WOW!

OH.MY.GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!

This GPU is literally the sickest piece of tech I've had a chance to get my hands on in any Apple device in the past 20 years. (OK, maybe the G5 rocketing to 2ghz at release comes close.:p) We are talking about literally DOUBLE the performance though. It looks like Apple kept this one stock as well, as it runs at the same clocks as standard NVidia parts (720mhz CPU, 2500mhz Memory).

There are a few updated drivers available so I'm going to retest with the latest official drivers and the current beta drivers and will report back here. And for what its worth, the Nvidia website blows the ATI website out of the water. Really, if you work for ATI, you need to examine how incredibly amazing the NV website is and how quickly they turn around drivers and hotfixes. They even have tweak guides and give you examples of what the best settings are for your hardware.

Here is my detailed info.

A bit disappointed with those scores tbh, it means that it is more close the the GTX 660 (actually only about 5% or so better) tha the 660ti. So for those looking for benchmarks, I'd advise look up the GTX 660 and add about 5% to the scores :/

Anyone have bench numbers, or an idea of what the difference between the radeon 6670 vs 680mx? Thx!

This is an All In One computer, I'm not sure what you were expecting. Its not going to compete with a custom PC rig. The laws of physics can't be broken. The imac is currently the most powerful AIO out there right now, bar none.

This happens every upgrade cycle for the iMac (and even the Mac Pro for that matter)... there is always some poser who starts lambasting how the Mac is not turning the performance of a PC.... nevermind the fact that the iMac is, bar none, the most powerful AIO out there... let's go ahead and bemoan how it can't compare to a big, loud, obnoxious tower PC with SLI video cards and a crappy monitor hooked up to it... and running a garbage OS.

In the real world, how much better do games look / run on the 680MX vs 640M?

Just trying to figure out if I really need the high end GPU for Call of Duty: Black Ops II or BF3.

Yeah it's quite disgusting how smooth my imac runs in winders...I just wish wow would run as smooth in OSX, would save me from rebooting!

Too true. I just finished Far Cry 3, which ran perfectly in 1080p with mostly everything on. 1440p was a little choppy, and 1080p was just perfect.

I did find, bizarrely, that turning VSYNC OFF and then going into the game, then turning VSYNC ON (1 frame option) caused the framerate to literally double, but without the screen tearing of vsync being off. Very odd. Either way, I had to do this every time I started the game. Fabulous game, though!

Just started playing "Sleeping Dogs," too, and that runs PERFECTLY in 2560x1440p with everything maxed out (no AA, though, since it's pointless in 1440p anyway!).

I cannot believe the power of the 2012 iMac. FYI mine's the i7 with the 680. This is quite a change of pace from my 2009 i7 with the AMD 4850 512MB card. :D
