Crysis 2

I overclocked my GPU using Nvidia inspector, this is the .bat I used

nvidiaInspector.exe -setBaseClockOffset:0,0,324 -setMemoryClockOffset:0,0,500 -setVoltageOffset:0,0,0 -setGpuClock:0,2,1035 -setMemoryClock:0,2,3000 -forcepstate:0,1

and here is the result:

http://youtu.be/yw_osDruk2c

There is however an issue here, while I managed to overclock my iMac and get a crazy amount of fps on Crysis, Battlefield and many other heavy duty games including metro 2033, My iMac tends to restart from time to time.
When I get back to Windows 8 there is no error rather than a power failure. Is this to do with Windows? has anyone tried windows 7 or have the same issue here?

Edit: It's not overheating at all, it never goes beyond 80 degrees, usually 73-77.

Edit: Heaven benchmark with default options, using the following .bat file

nvidiaInspector.exe -setBaseClockOffset:0,0,280 -setMemoryClockOffset:0,0,500 -setVoltageOffset:0,0,0 -setGpuClock:0,2,995 -setMemoryClock:0,2,3000 -forcepstate:0,1

Edit: Heaven Benchmark Maxed out using this .bat, so far no restarts as of now (Windows 8)

nvidiaInspector.exe -setBaseClockOffset:0,0,290 -setMemoryClockOffset:0,0,500 -setVoltageOffset:0,0,0 -setGpuClock:0,2,1006 -setMemoryClock:0,2,3000 -forcepstate:0,1

Here is a video showing GTX 680 2048mb and what is interesting is that he ends up with 47.3 fps, only higher by 1.8 fps.
What you need to bare in mind is that he is running it at 1110mhz using official driver from Nvidia, sadly Nvidia hasn't released an official driver for 680mx. When it does, I'm sure I can hit 1110mhz and only then we can compare them fairly.

so you get +290/+500 stable? that's crazy!

i'm on +200/+300 and get in far cry3 temperatures maxed out at 88.

Download LubbosFan and put it on 3000-3100, then overclock using Nvidia Inspector and this .bat file.

nvidiaInspector.exe -setBaseClockOffset:0,0,280 -setMemoryClockOffset:0,0,500 -setVoltageOffset:0,0,0 -setGpuClock:0,2,995 -setMemoryClock:0,2,3000 -forcepstate:0,1

This is 100% stable on Windows 8 and I've used it myself. I don't seem to be able to get a stable overclock more than 1000mhz. I might try Windows 7 tomorrow and see if it makes a difference.

Far Cry 3 pushes my temp to 83-86, with this overclock I can max out everything and still get 35+ on native resolution in the most intense area.

i used lubbosfan but my fans went loud as crazy and i've the completly power off the imac to get the normal fanspeed back. so i'm i little bit scared!

i using the automatic fancontrol and during fc3 the fan has 2500 rpm.

so what values do you have exactly with your .bat?
i've:
gpu 919 mhz
memory 1400 mhz

Try using it again and if it gets loud then put it on a slower rpm.
2600 is very very quite and keeps it cool, 3000 looks like to be the sweet spot for me and won't let your GPU go beyond 86-87. No need to worry unless it gets to 90 :D

Check out the new benchmark for heaven I just uploaded, it's insane.

Here is a pic of how I'm running my setup, make sure you disable the Turbo for your CPU it reduces heat by a big factor (5-8 degrees)

Wow, crazy stuff Sam.. :) What kind of score do you get in 3d mark 11 with that overclock?

@Sam.021: do you think i can achieve these values with msi afterburner? or is the nvidia inspector better for overlocking?

Here is the result for 3DMark 11:

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/5870763

I think I can achieve 9000+ once the official driver is out. Every time I try to overclock beyond normal threshold, it restarts my iMac. So far it's 28% faster than 680M by any means, it might be possible to push up to 9700.
I managed to achieve 1170mhz (100% stable) with my Retina Macbook Pro (650m), using the same method.

To be honest with you I don't like MSI afterburner at all, never played nice with my Retina Macbook Pro!!!
Nvidia one is always stable if you know what you are doing, if you want to overclock, play games and never worry about frame drops, I'd suggest you go with Nvidia Inspector. don't forget to set your fans at 3000 RPM

Do you know what your Retina 650m OC 3DMark11 score was?

First off, that's some crazy overclocking. :)
I overclock to +200/+300. I'm sure I can go higher, but I haven't tried yet..not sure I'm going to either.

Anyway, I get P8291 (Graphics score: 8366, Physics (CPU) 9320).
I see your Physics score is actually lower than mine, but your graphics score is about 650 points higher. However going from stock settings to +200/+300, my graphics score increases about 1650 points. I'm pretty sure you could turn down the ram speed quite a bit, and still have most of the performance intact.
Impressive stuff! :)

Yeah, that's something I noticed too from comparing to others, will try again and sort it out, had the time to only do it once, could also be the drivers as well, I'm using the Beta version.

I get the following results in 3DMark 11:

Stock 7038
100/200 7798
150/250 8193
200/300 8570

I overclocked with MSI Afterburner and Lubbo at 2,500 rpm, using the latest Beta drivers from Nvidia.

Did you run in stretched mode?

Same question, did you run in stretched mode?

It doesn't make any difference at all

It doesn't make any difference at all

I had heard before, that it does, at least for some users. I'm just trying to understand why I'm getting slightly higher scores with the same settings, drivers etc.

Yes Andy, I ran 3dmark 11 in stretched mode. I see you're getting a higher score than me. I haven't upgraded to the latest beta Nvidia driver. I'm sure that's the reason, if you're wondering about the differing scores. Btw, I too get lower scores in centered mode.

i set Lubbo at min 1200 and max 3000 rpm. but the fan runs also in windows at 3000. so the fan is with Lubbo not automatical controlled and the rpm is in 2d und 3d always max?

@Sam.021:
i've deactivated cpu turbo and the cpu temp goes from 95 to 85. gpu ist with 2600 rpm (automatic controlled by the imac) still at max 88.
but with no turbo i think games like gta iv which is much cpu intense should run slower.

@Sam.021:
what menas that line -forcepstate:0,1
because i want to set a .bat which makes the settings back to normal.
this is what i made:
nvidiaInspector.exe -setBaseClockOffset:0,0,0 -setMemoryClockOffset:0,0,0 -setVoltageOffset:0,0,0 -setGpuClock:0,2,719 -setMemoryClock:0,2,2500 -forcepstate:0,1

but the gpu now runs constant with 719. but i think in windwos it should automatically throttle down?

The automated process doesn't work, I always put it on 3000 while I'm gaming then put it back on 1700 when I'm not.

GTA IV is a console port and never goes beyond 30 fps unless you use the hack that is available online. GTA IV runs at 60fps with that hack (2560x1440) using stock clock even if you disable turbo.

There is a default.bat I made which makes it easy to go back, I will add it here as soon as I'm back home. It will return everything back to normal.

Well excuse my ignorance, to be honest with you I never tried it because I read that it doesn't make any difference.
I shall try it when I get the chance, maybe that's why I didn't end up with the highest score on 3DMark 11 and someone had a slightly higher result than me.

Thanks Mac32, it has to be the drivers. Hope they'll officially support the 680Mx soon : )

So here is what I have from the lowest to the highest clock: :cool:

=======================================================================================

Internet.bat :rolleyes: (to be used while you are browsing, keeps it cool but fast)

nvidiaInspector.exe -setBaseClockOffset:0,0,0 -setMemoryClockOffset:0,0,0 -setVoltageOffset:0,0,0 -setGpuClock:0,2,350 -setMemoryClock:0,2,1500 -forcepstate:0,1

=======================================================================================

Default.bat :eek: (This one brings back everything to its original state (changes dynamically), meaning, when you are not using your iMac, it down clocks back to 324mhz with everything set to its lowest. As you start using it, depending on the load; it will change its clock and goes up to 720mhz when you are gaming or editing)

nvidiaInspector.exe -setMemoryClock:0,2,2500 -forcepstate:0,16

=======================================================================================

Default - fixed.bat ;) (this one will get you the highest default value at a fixed rate - 720mhz/2500mhz)

nvidiaInspector.exe -setGpuClock:0,2,720 -setMemoryClock:0,2,2500 -forcepstate:0,1

=======================================================================================

Overclock 1 - 100% Stable :p (999mhz/3000mhz) - (tested and never failed - played 7 hours of Dead Island - 2560x1440 - no frame drops - no stutter and everything seemed perfect except for the zombies :D )

nvidiaInspector.exe -setBaseClockOffset:0,0,280 -setMemoryClockOffset:0,0,500 -setVoltageOffset:0,0,0 -setGpuClock:0,2,995 -setMemoryClock:0,2,3000 -forcepstate:0,1

=======================================================================================

Oveclock 2 :eek: (unstable - do not use :D) (Even though I have used this many times and even did a few hours of gaming but it's bloody unstable lol, it restarts the Windows for no reason and gives out no error rather than power failure. If you have Windows 7 you might be able to give this a go)

nvidiaInspector.exe -setBaseClockOffset:0,0,324 -setMemoryClockOffset:0,0,500 -setVoltageOffset:0,0,0 -setGpuClock:0,2,1035 -setMemoryClock:0,2,3000 -forcepstate:0,1

thx a lot! :D
but the nvidia inspector shows me the the max gpu und memory clock is still 999 mhz and 3000 mhz. but clock of gpu and memory is dynamicly adjust to 324 each when there is no load.

No problem :D, yeah as you mentioned it dynamically changes everything to suit your needs and it's just great :D:cool:

normal: nvidiaInspector.exe -setBaseClockOffset:0,0,0 -setMemoryClockOffset:0,0,0 -setMemoryClock:0,2,2500 -forcepstate:0,16

this is it for me :)

hmmmm, but memory clock is still at 3000 mhz with the .bat above. i've to double click the .bat then i get the normal clocks for both.
