yeah. but the nvidia inspector shows me the the max gpu and memory clock is still 999 mhz and 3000 mhz.

edit:
normal: nvidiaInspector.exe -setBaseClockOffset:0,0,0 -setMemoryClockOffset:0,0,0 -setMemoryClock:0,2,2500 -forcepstate:0,16

this is it for me :)

hmmmm, but memory clock is still at 3000 mhz with the .bat above. i've to double click the .bat then i get the normal clocks for both.

use this to get normal clocks as I mentioned before:

nvidiaInspector.exe -setMemoryClock:0,2,2500 -forcepstate:0,16

Sounds like Bioshock Infinite will be my next game. Currently playing Metro 2033, and it's fun but getting old.
I went ahead and bought shootmania storm, hope to have some good multiplayer fun with it once more people start playing.

Just saw that Crysis 3 comes out soon too... hmmm

I get the following results in 3DMark 11:

Stock 7038
100/200 7798
150/250 8193
200/300 8570

I overclocked with MSI Afterburner and Lubbo at 2,500 rpm, using the latest Beta drivers from Nvidia.

I really don't get this. I installed the latest Nvidia beta driver, and my 3dmark 11 score actually went down with everything from 30-370 points (P7914-P8262)- So I ended up installing the 310.90 driver again, and back to P8292. This is overclocked +200/+300, streched mode, updated 3dmark11, Windows 7 64bit.
I don't understand why your scores are so much higher. Could you please tells us your iMac specs and driver info? Thanks! :)

It's the i7/680MX/1TB Fusion Drive, and I'm running Windows 7 64bit with the 313.96 beta drivers. I used Afterburner and Lubbo for the OC tests with 3DMark.

I installed the Nvidia drivers on a fresh installation of Win7 (400 GB bootcamp partition) and I performed a DirectX update manually as well, since I wasn't getting sound in Black Ops 2. I have hardly anything installed on Windows aside from Steam, Black Ops 2 and 3DMark, since I'm waiting on a replacement unit (due to image retention/ghosting).

It's only me guessing, but maybe I get the higher scores because I have hardly anything installed on Windows?

I just installed left 4 dead 2 on my 680mx and when I'm in the settings menu to change the video settings, part of the "a", "v" and "y" are cut off. Anyone else have this problem. I tried to reinstall it and does the same thing.

I just ordered my 27" iMac today, with a 860MX. But now I am wondering, how loud does the iMac get? My old "silver" MacBook Pro is so annoying with its always-on fan. When gaming, it gets even louder. Are you able to hear the iMacs fans when working in lets say Photoshop? Or when you play Battlefield 3? I'm really concerned about this because I hope for a quiet iMac. Would the iMac tendentially get less loud if I would take the geforce 675mx insteas the 680mx? Thank you!

Interesting. I've been wondering if some of these elevated temperatures on the GPU at stock clock are only because there's a problem with Boot Camp recognizing appropriate speeds for Mac on windows. If that's true even after extensive gaming, we may want to be even more cautious with the OC.

As far as fan speeds, I've heard that, but I've heard the opposite. To me it doesn't make sense. If you buy a floor fan, do you never turn it on high for fear it will go out? I'm sure it will shorten the lifespan some, but I doubt it'll go bad in 2-3 yrs. plus, you're not gaming 24/7. Your fans will only be high for the period of time that you are. Just my .02.

I just read this in a description of an iMac tear down.

* A rubbery housing is lightly adhered to the edges of the hard drive beneath the upper and lower hard plastic bezels. This design is far different from what we’ve seen before. Since the internal components are more tightly packed than before, small vibrations may carry through more components. The rubber housing dampens the vibrations from the spinning hard drive so they are not perpetuated throughout the device.

Maybe this explains it? If it's that bad I would call apple.

Download LubbosFan and put it on 3000-3100, then overclock using Nvidia Inspector and this .bat file.

nvidiaInspector.exe -setBaseClockOffset:0,0,280 -setMemoryClockOffset:0,0,500 -setVoltageOffset:0,0,0 -setGpuClock:0,2,995 -setMemoryClock:0,2,3000 -forcepstate:0,1

This is 100% stable on Windows 8 and I've used it myself. I don't seem to be able to get a stable overclock more than 1000mhz. I might try Windows 7 tomorrow and see if it makes a difference.

Far Cry 3 pushes my temp to 83-86, with this overclock I can max out everything and still get 35+ on native resolution in the most intense area.

I tried clocking mine (with EVGA precision X) to 275 /175 yesterday and fan speed at 2000 out of the 2700 that MacFanx64 shows as maximum. After half an hour roughly my mac restarted.

GPU temp was only about 82c could it be CPU temp or what are the other reasons for the mac to restart. I saw that you had much higher clocks than me and still got it stable.

Is it better to choose lubbos fan control instead of macfan?
Could it be the hyper threading? dont know if I have that though on my i5.
I thought at first that it was the PSU that was overloaded somehow.

I'm almost 100% certain most of these reboots are due to the PSU not being able to handle these clocks. I should run some more tests with my Kill-A-Watt device and measure the load from my iMac under different clocks.

Thanks, but that shouldn't be it I think. I have the i7 CPU, it should cope with a antivirus program running in the background and a couple of other things. :) Anyway, it's the graphics score itself that's lower (not CPU/physics). What you said about directX is interesting, I've installed 9-10 games in Windows now, maybe different directX versions and various stuff are messing the speed up a bit. I've never seen any scores as high as you have though.. If it was 50 points I wouldn't care, but we're talking 300 points.. :) Strange...

Intersting I'll be waiting for the results... :)

Considering that I'm planning to play mostly Battlefield 3 and do a some final cut, my current configuration is the 27 inch iMac with the i5 and the 675MX. Should I rather take the 680MX than the i7 or vice versa? Thank you very much!

680mx is a must for bf3.

Ok thanks. Does somebody know how much a i7 would speed up rendering in Final Cut Pro X in comparison to an i5? I wan't the new iMac to last at least about 6 years before I buy a new one. Would it be wise to take an i7 because in future it is a "standard"?

Wow, the 680mx overclocks like crazy. I just did a bunch of 3dmark 11 tests, and not a single issue so far.

I did several runs with +300/+450, which results in P8903 (graphics score 9096). I've decided to try out +250/+375 in some longer dx11 game sessions, and see how the iMac copes temperature wise. At 250/375 my 3dmark 11 score is P8646 (graphics 8776). Not to shabby for a mac... ;)

Btw., I see on the 3dmark 11 webpage a (very) few have gotten upwards to P9300 with a 680mx, how high have those guys overclocked?

(PS: No reason to turn up the ram speed any higher (vs gpu core). The performance gain is minimal, at least in 3dmark 11.)

isn't i7 like 2x faster in some cases when rendering stuff? you can search for comparisons on yotube :)... i know it does save you some time compared to the i5. but it costs 250$. not sure if its worth it unless you're using final cut pro everyday or most of the time.

I would definitely upgrade to the i7, while $250 might seem like a lot right now, thats only like a quarter a day over 3 years. Definitely will appreciate it down the road, might to be a huge difference in todays activities but again, you buy the machine for down the road.

Also definitely get the 680mx the 2gb alone are necessary for 1440p

I hope not, this issue happens while using different clocks and it's doing my head, can someone please try this under Windows 7?
I'm sure the PSU can handle it but it won't hurt to be sure about it, please let me know what you come up with?

I've read about people who have gone over 324+ and still managed to do 3Dmark 11. The problem should be Windows 8 and not having an official drive, at least I hope.

Thank you for the help, i'll take the i7 and the 680mx then. I'm just a little concerned about how much energy this setup consumes while working in word / while playing battlefield. Does someone have some numbers for the high end 27 inch imac consumption?

Are you trying to save on your electric bill or something?

Something like that, I'm trying to figure out what the high end model will cost at the end of the month compared to the low end so I know how my bill would look like for each. I'm just a student with small montly budget ;)

Gotcha. I remember those days. Good luck.

Hmm, I just played Crysis 2 for over an hour at +285/+425. Totally stable, and as long as I use vsync, the temperature is not hardly any higher. It's crazy. Unfortunately, I got the sudden reboot. Is it really the 680mx drawing too much power? If so, that's a real shame, as otherwise the overclock was totally stable. :( Guess I have to go for a slightly lower overclock. Just played a section in Crysis 2 with lots of fighting and explosions in native resolution, everything at max, it kept 30fps vsync all the time. (If I get right into an alien and blast away, then the fps might go lower.)

Crap. Could it help to unplug some USB stuff? Is there anyway to lessen the power load?

Was it in Windows 8?

The LCD screen uses a huge amount of power. Try leaving a game running with the screen set to max brightness and see how long it lasts before a spontaneous reboot.

Then try with the brightness at the lowest level.

To me, it still sounds like the PSU can't handle these crazy loads...

There's a ~60watt difference in load between max brightness and minimum brightness, so it could make a big difference.
