If you do Safari and Mails via streaming NetFlix over WiFi as PiP, will your battery last over 8 hrs?

I don’t usually multitask on my iPad, I’m usually just watching Netflix, or just browsing the internet etc. not really “pro” usage. I got a 12.9 because I noticed I just wasn’t using my 9.7 iPad often anymore because it seemed a bit small. On my first gen 12.9 I got 3-4 hours max each charge (and then it wouldn’t charge on 12w when in use which is why I got the 29w charger). With my 2’nd gen 12.9 I def get 8-10 hours sometimes more, and it always charges while on 12w. The “low power cores” seemed to have made all the difference.

Also: while fast charging is more stressful to the battery, what has happened to your battery is NOT normal. That is a massive reduction in battery percentage in that many charge cycles, and Apple should replace it. I’d say it was a defective battery exasperated by the rapid charger.

I’ve noticed that my battery lasts the same 7 hours with or without BT. However, multitasking does seem to reduce around 1.5-2+ hours from the battery life. But just NetFlix on Wifi Pip with Safari shouldn’t really be reducing the battery by like 2 hrs, right?
[doublepost=1525622507][/doublepost]I’m down to 70% in 2-2.5 hrs. After that it drains by a further 10% every 30-40 mins.
If you’re watching Netflix with PiP the whole time, then I’d say it’s reasonable to see a 2hr reduction in battery life.

Maybe download some shows to the iPad so it doesn’t have to actually stream them as you watch.

As long as I’m using Pip even with downloaded shows through Infuse I only get 6-7 hrs tops.

Sorry...the last post i quoted seems to suggest you’re getting 7hrs, but that is reduced by a further 2hrs with PiP. Is that correct?

If so, then 7hrs with downloaded shows on infuse is an improvement.

It definitely seems that you’re battery isn’t performing as it should, but even if it was, I’d still say a 2hr reduction when streaming with PiP is reasonable.

I think personally...with a healthy iPad, I’d be happy with 7hrs of surfing if I was streaming with PiP.

Does it matter if I’m using wired headphones or in built speakers at 100%? Does that affect the battery life?

I mentioned this already, I cannot answer the streaming / Netflix on WiFi question since I do not use Netflix. Check if your location settings are on, background app refresh things like that. If these are on, you might want to shut them off.

Maybe someone else can your questions. Good luck.

In my experience background app refresh has not helped with battery life with my recent devices. So I’ve tried it on and off, the battery life stays the same.

And when these same iPads were new I used to get like 12+ hours or so.

Turn off find my iPad and if you have an LTE iPad turn that off too.

UPDATE:

Apple Covent Garden made it right for me!

I went to Apple Covent Garden in London yesterday.

The Apple genius there said that the degradation wasn’t normal even if the health of 87/94% respectively is correct.

So he got both my Pros swapped out for new refub pieces. No charge at all.

This is why Apple is Apple and everybody else is only pineapples. And I hate pineapples. :)

So everybody wants to take a dig at Apple. But when they actually make it right, nobody wants to applaud them. Is that right guys?

Applaud them for what? An in-warranty exchange? That is to be expected. Is the bar of expectation that low? It's like when a 5 year draws squiggles and claims they drew a race car. We pat the 5 yr old on the head and say, "good job". Is that how we're to treat Apple?

Well Apple India had refused. They even refused paid battery replacement for my iPhone 7. So for me Apple Covent Garden was a godsend. :)

And do note that Apple’s diagnostic was showing 87% and 94% respectively.

Apple did refuse to exchange my 7+ even though it had 10 days left of the warranty, I had documented the issues a lot of times with Apple Support, wasted countless hours trying to fix the issue and talking with support, and they acknowledged - when my family member took it to the US and after performing diagnostic tests - that it was broken. They said they had to perform tests on the device in a special facility that would take 7-10 days. The family member that took it to the US didn't have that time. They came back with the broken phone and now I no longer have the warranty. I'm not happy with their treatment, because they did exchange my 6s, but that was two days after I bought it, so within the 14-day return period. Not that impressive.
Now I will go when I can to an Apple Store (I live in Argentina and everything that's here is useless, so I had to wait until I could travel, when a family member could, the phone and only 10 days left). But the phone is out of warranty. I will try to explain the situation to them, but I don't think they'll help.

Yes. Exactly. They mess many a times. But when they do the right thing, we should acknowledge those times as well.

Didn’t you try in your home country?

Yes. They are useless. I knew that. My family member told Apple that. They even spoke to a supervisor. She was really polite, they told me, because they hadn't been treated well the first time they went. But in the end, I wanted them to help, not only to be polite. The supervisor said the 7-10 day thing, and that they couldn't do anything. Come on. They knew I'd lose the warranty later. They knew I didn't have any more time. They just said no we need the 7-10 days and if you don't have them I'm sorry. You sold me a broken phone. I don't know. I feel that they could have exchanged it out, considering my situation.

Could you not leave the phone and have it shipped back to you later?

I got distracted by the number of unread emails O_O

As someone who practices inbox zero I nearly had an aneurism, lol. At this point it makes more sense to just turn off the counter entirely in the settings because it's functionally useless. Do you not block junk mail and setup mail rules? This is madness. I manage a network of about 80 websites and have nearly 400 logins stored in 1Password from various internet services, social networks and other accounts and I average 15-20 emails per day across work and personal accounts unless something crazy is going down.

Glad everything worked out for you! Yes, this is why I keep coming back to Apple as well. They've done good too keep me as a customer and it is one of the few companies I've given a good portion of my income to (compared to the rest) and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

Yes, but if I fully discharge it every time, I have no problems with it, and the battery health doesn’t suffer according to the radios own health checker.

Just because you have been having good results doesn't mean you're giving good advice. You are indeed doing a disservice to anyone with a lithium based battery.

I've been using, and testing, various lithium chemistry batteries since they have come out many years ago. From R/C hobby vehicles to home built bikes and cars. Yes I have some I run down to "empty" and then rapid charge that have seen 500+ cycles while retaining ~90% capacity. They are the exception.

BEST PRACTICES FOR LITHIUM BATTTERIES
Try to keep them between 20-80%
Feel free to top up during the day to 80%
Don't leave in a hot car
Rapid charging is no problem and will not degrade your battery if it's approved by the manufacturer. They are well under spec of battery manufacturer. IE your iPad pro has a 10 amp battery and a 29 watt charger will charge at roughly 6 amps not accounting for losses. This is pretty low where most other uses we call slow charging a rate of 1C meaning 1 X Capacity. So I would charge my other 10 amp batteries at a rate of 10 amps.

Hopefully this clears up some misconceptions as people just parrot bad advice these days.

I can only offer advice based on my own experiences. To do any other would be the very definition of parroting.

You obviously have more experience with batteries than I do, but this forum is here for people to share their personal experiences, and that’s just what I did. :)
