I think the final cost, since it includes the wireless card, is yet to be determined. The best thing to lower cost is to get a group buy so I can buy all the components in bulk. I don't think a Kickstarter is necessary, but maybe if I add a poll that would help determine the interest?

I'm designing it to work in the A1286 and also definitely want to do the 2011-2012 Mac mini. It technically should work on the white MacBooks as well, but I'm not sure if people would want to invest money into those machines?
This all sounds great, and count me in depending on the price. I’m buying a used 2012 today to replace the used model I’ve had for 5 years that I over watered last week. Both internal SSDs were fine, thankfully😂

Just wanted to share that my internet provider has changed my speed from 300MB/s to 600MB/s and the wifi works like a charm.

One of my wifi cards arrived today!! Thank you so so so so much!!

Took the opportunity to do a big refurb of my MacBook, including tightening the screen hinges, replacing the smashed clutch cover and currently replacing worn and broken keys.

Only trouble I've had so far is with the Apple Watch unlock - fiddled and fiddled to get it working then it worked twice and then stopped. Haven't yet done a PRAM and NVRAM reset or signed in/out of iCloud yet so thats the next two things to try.

My next potential upgrade is either to a secondary SSD, or an internal Blu-Ray drive :D

Works like a charm for me, in High Sierra and Mojave. Macbook 17" Late 2011. Try getting out of iCloud and signing again.

Catalina, MacBook Pro 13 inch Mid 2012 here. I'll give it a go signing in and out.. its such a pain though with 50,000 photos in iCloud and 300gbs of desktop as well :O

Hmmm signing in and out of iCloud has made the apple watch unlock option disappear from system preferences completely :O

Thanks, I just read the past few pages. I guess I’ll be patiently waiting and checking the site from time to time, I’m itching to throw one in my 2011 MPB.

Yes , I undesstand you. They are truly the one one that separates "old" Macs from the actual ones. If I reed something new, I will send you a message. Anyway, maybe @troop231 can tell you something about new possible releases.

just got a uMBP 2011 to try and squeeze what I can out of it, I'd love to buy one when they're available

no change in speeds. I’m going to chalk it up to a bad (old) modem/router. I need a new one so hopefully whenever i get one the speeds will go up. Definitely keeping the new card in the mac. Thank you for all the work you’ve done to get us 802.11ac!

can confirm. It was my modem/router. Upgraded to arris surfboard sb8200 modem and asus gt-ax11000 router and everything works great! Thinking of purchasing another card (when available) for at least one (of my other three) 2012 uMBP

That's great. I purchased two, and thinking about buying a third one just for spare.

I lost track of this thread, and evidently missed the first batch for sale. I am hoping to upgrade my MBP 2012 with BT and WIFI. Please Ley us know when and if they're are more. Thanks

I am very interested in this thread, I came across while looking for a solution to add AC band wireless to my mini. I heard mention of possible compatibility? Seems to be the same proprietary ribbon cable used to connect the wifi card to the logic board.

Apple Mac mini "Core i7" 2.0 (Mid-2011/Server) Specs
Identifiers: Mid-2011 - MC936LL/A - Macmini5,3 - A1347 - 2442

The pinout isn't the same on the card and flat flex cable on the Mac mini like it is on the MBPs. @highvoltage12v can confirm.

Absolutely! Would just need to see if there's enough interest to make it feasible. Maybe you could start a thread in the Mac mini sub forum? :)

I only joined to inquire, I'm rather a novice here, and wouldn't even know where to start on such a undertaking 😂
