So I can use 802.11ac for my Macbook Pro Mid-2012? Where can I buy one? I've seen alot selling MODEL: bcm94360cd. will those work?I am pleased to announce that 5 years after my post found here (where I threw in the towel early): https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/macbook-pro-802-11ac-upgrade.1521466/page-4#post-18438927 , native 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth 4.2 are working on classic unibody MBPs!
Edit: I'm now selling the upgrade cards here: https://subtle.design/products/80211ac
All of this was performed on a Mid-2012 A1278 13" MBP with Mojave 10.14.3.
This upgrade will work on the following models:
13" - Early 2011 through Mid 2012 - Model A1278
15" - Mid 2010 through Mid 2012 - Model A1286
17" - Mid 2010 through Late 2011 - Model A1297
I was encouraged by several members, most prominently, @highvoltage12v , who said the iMac cards from 2015 have the proper IPX antenna jack sizes on the card for the classic MBPs.
I reused my original adapter board I luckily kept from 2013, and lo and behold, it all works!!
Now that the prototype works, the current plan is to make the adapter more compact and robust without using Apple's proprietary Airport connector.

Out of interest, is it more expensive to send things to Europe with USPS instead of DHL? DHL pay customs in advance and slap an admin fee on top of it, I just got hit with £35 (around $43) only some of which was actual duty. At least with USPS there's a decent chance of it slipping through the cracks as usually happens if I order something from the US and it goes through them. All orders have been shipped!

Interesting, that sounds very bad for First Class International. Do you use Priority International then and how much is that?USPS is more problematic with lost and delayed packages, which is why it's not an option anymore other than Priority international. First class international service lost a ton of cards and some delayed for months. Let's hope Priority international doesn't follow the same fate!

It likely was and I didn't understand the difference, my bad! Should have the card in a few days, looking forward to messing with itDepending on the country, Priority international can be more expensive than DHL and also still slower than DHL. It would've been an option when you were checking out.
Card works great. Very happy with this product!Got my card in today, super fast shipping! Going to get it installed later, will report back if any issues.
1/16” drill bit, drilled down just far enough to pop the head off the screw and release the bracket. Left the body of the screw in the post; called it a day.
Installing the new MacOS update on my restart; will test in another 30 minutes![]()
I thought about it briefly; but since I'm not replacing the bracket on my 15" MBP I just left it. Rather just get to using itYou can probably use a pair of vise grips now to extract the rest of the screw, provided there's enough room.

Works great! I just enabled the Apple Watch unlock; hoping to get SideCar working...
Sidecar requires 2016 or later MBP: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210380#systemrequirements
Would be neat if it somehow worked though..

Got my card today and already got it installed. My MBP is gonna last me a few more years. My laptop is the only thing I haven't upgraded yet.![]()
Might want to update to 15.5.5 before the swap and not after, FYI.
Getting this odd installation screen that I haven’t seen before. Hoping it doesn’t brick my mbp.
I’ll update as soon as 15.5.5 ‘installs’.

This was the odd install screen, and there was a different install screen with a bigger apple logo and a thicker load bar similar to the internet recovery screen prior to this screen.
The map then was booting up and was in the "Less than a minute remaining" screen for several minutes before I decided to force shut down and restart.
Seems to be working now.
The supplemental update that came out today took a long time; I didn't do a force shut down though and just let it do its thing.
Same with the update—faster with the new card in I expect![]()
